Nose in or nose out?

I have pulled into spots and backed into spots, depending on the situation, and I have pulled through too. Pulled in is probably the overall winner. The method used is sometimes dictated by who else is in the vehicle as well as cargo considerations.

While I do pull forward if the spot in front is empty so I can be nose out, I don't take the time to back in unless I'm somewhere where it will be a lot more crowded when I leave. For example, parking in a relatively empty parking lot for a school concert where I know everyone will be leaving at once.

I figure there's already enough inane threads going, what's one more?

For those of you who drive... what's your preferred parking style (in lots)? Nose in? Nose out? Nose out only if you can pull through? I'd say 95% of the time, I'm nose out. Backing in doesn't bother me. And I feel it's SO much safer when leaving the spot.
I prefer nose out and pull through but my hairdresser told me that one of her clients was robbed and her car stolen when getting into her car at a parking lot (mall or something). And that the cop told her that thieves prefer cars that are parked nose out/pull through but it's easier for them and quicker to get away.

That's an interesting take.

I back in only when I have too. It's usually camp sites with way too many rocks around the parking.

See, everyone? Pulling through is not just convenient for the driver, but considerate to the thief as well. :flower1::flower::car:

I nose in now that I have a backup camera. Used to pull through when possible.

The company I work for has a "nose out" policy. It is safer, especially if you live in a cul-de-sac. If you "nose in", do you do a complete walk-around before starting the car? Didn't think so. People (kids especially) are watching for you when you arrive. Not so much when you are departing, and you don't know what got left behind the car while you were stopped.

Either way you are going backward at some point. I figure it’s like toilet paper - as long as it’s there who cares? I’m obviously more laid back than most however.

Nose in makes it easier to put stuff in the hatch.

We are required to back in at work. It’s second nature for us now. Most of us can back in quicker than it takes for some people to pull in. Lol.

For those who pull through when possible... Why not back in?
Because it is safer to not be backing up if you can avoid it. Pull forward in, pull forward out.

I prefer nose out, and I will park significantly farther away in order to get a pull through spot (and try to avoid door dings)

99% of the time I back my car in. It takes an extra minute or two but is so much easier to drive out. It helps that my car has 360’ camera for any parking.

The objective is to park nose out. The safest, quickest, and easiest way to do so is to just pull through in forward.

Sorry, should have specified... When you CANT pull through, why not back in? It sounds like others believe it's better to end up nose out, so why not do so whenever possible?

If there’s no pull-through option available, I DO back in, pretty much automatically without even thinking about it.
