Canadian Buffoon's North South Vacation
Of course there's a contest!
Hey folks! Been a while.
At least it's been a while since I've written anything of note.
What? Yes, yes. There'll be a contest.
And yes, there will be a prize.
Perhaps two if I'm feeling particularly generous.
Now let me introdu...
What?
You want to know more about the contest?
Sure. We can do that first.
The contest will involve you, dear reader,
trying to win a prize.
What? You want to know how to win?
It's really pretty simple.
In every chapter that I write,
I'll ask a question or two (or three... who knows?!)
There'll be real easy questions too.
Like... "What's your favourite snack?"
Some questions will involve a bit of
guesswork, like... "Where do we go next?"
I'll also include some even easier stuff.
Like... maybe I'll write "If you like BTMRR,
say "Woot!"... if you don't like BTMRR,
say "Woot!" anyway."
So... just reply "Woot!" and you'll get points.
(But not this time. That's just an example.)
I'll also hide a few things in the photos.
How many photos will depend on how I feel.
But I'll always tell you how many to look for,
so you're not searching incessantly for hours on end.
For example, if there's one photo with a hidden detail,
I'll ask you "Did you see it?"
If there's three, I'll ask if you saw all three.
Once you find the one (or three), you can stop looking.
Here's a couple of examples, just so you have
an idea of what you're looking for.
Basically you're looking for my avatar
(Marvin the Martian)
or my screenname...
Or something that's really out of place.
Easy peasy (chicken queasy) right???
One last thing.
Please don't post your photo guesses
on this thread.
PM them to me so it gives everyone
a chance to play... or be frustrated.
Whichever.
(I will post the answers in the following update.)
Typically, I post about a week apart, give or take.
So you'll have plenty of time to get your guesses in.
If you wanna play, say "Me! Me! I wanna play!"
I guess that's it for now.
Good luck!
Okay! As I was saying,
Let me intro...
What?
You want to know what the prize is?
Sheesh! Isn't it enough just to
play for pride? Or for the challenge?
No?
Ah.
The prize will probably be dependent
on the winner and the winner's location.
I usually award the winner with Canadian chocolate,
but if you're in the UK or Canada, you can get that
on your own.
In that case... I'll probably look for something that's
of Manitoba origin instead.
Don't ask me what that is.
Cross that bridge if/when.
Okay... now that's it.
Huh?
Me?
Us?
Oh! You want to know
the whos, whats, and wheres.
The who is me and my oldest DD, Elle.
She worked really hard to get her Education degree.
(Up here, in the land of eternal snow, you have to
first get a degree (in her case, a BA) before you can
pursue your B.Ed.
When she was in her final year, and doing her practicum,
(classroom teaching) Covid struck and her class
was split in two and she was basically left to fend for herself
in one classroom while her mentor/evaluator took the other half.
She did that, and after a few months,
another school contacted her university and begged
for a replacement teacher.
Their first choice was Elle and she went off to teach
there for the last five months of that school year.
I had promised her a trip to Disney after she graduated,
but The Evil C word (as opposed to... um... nevermind. )
The Evil C word prevented us from even entering
the US, let alone flying to Disney.
A year later (and a full year as a teacher under her belt)
we finally made it down to celebrate her success.
This is us.
I'm the pretty one on the right.
Okay! I think that about wraps...
What? Why "North South Vacation"?
Well...
That will depend on you, actually.
I've been, and continue to be, a fairly busy boy.
After not being able to travel, the bug really itched.
I did a solo road trip covering 16 States
(and one Province... mine.)
I took my younger DD on a whirlwind tour
of a Far North city; Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
And in a week or so, I'll be taking an Alaskan cruise.
So... North (home)... to South (Texas)... to Far North (Yellowknife)...
to South (WDW)... to Not-quite-so-far North (Alaska).
For those of you slightly puzzled by
"Not-quite-so-far North" when talking about Alaska...
The cruise's most northern stop is Skagway, AK,
which is about 200 miles/320 kilometers south of Yellowknife.
(And about 700 miles/1,100 kilometers west.)
When I'm all finished writing about Disney,
I'll leave it up to you whether you want to hear
about any, all, or none of the above journeys.
So this is my TR, and welcome to it
one and all!
Contest!
Let's start off with a classic
(from a past TR)
How many minutes in total did we wait for busses?
a. 30-60
b. 60-90
c. 90-120
d. 120-240
e. More than 240
And just to make things even easier for you...
I'm going to tell you how many busses we took.
We rode 17 busses.
Heck, I'll even help you with the math.
If the average wait time is:
5 minutes, the total time waiting is 85 minutes
10 minutes, the total time waiting is 170 minutes
15 minutes, the total time waiting is 255 minutes
(15 or longer and the answer has to be e.)
Of course there's a contest!
