Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

That would require logic on Disney’s part 😄😄
And apparently on Universal's! Like, on smaller parks I've been you just literally put your stuff in lil cubbies right by the tracks and pick them up when you un-board, it takes 10 seconds. Why is Universal requiring folks to leave their stuff before even going into the line???!? Makes zero sense.

Well, often rides load and unload in different areas, so that wouldn't work. Universal used to not have metal detectors and all, but they had issues with some of their rides where people lost change and it hit another train (Dueling Dragons was notorious for this). They also tend to have more extreme rides with more constrained seating. That said, I have read that Velocicoaster - the newest thill ride at Uni - has two-sided lockers where you place your stuff inside on the way in then get it out from the opposite side on the way out. That's the first one like that that I know of though.

My point is that there are ways to do it without requiring folks to leave their stuff at the start of the line. If they can't figure that out when smaller parks do then both Disney and Universal have a big issue to solve internally. Make the rules clear with the punishment for endangering other guests a ban (and a disclaimer that a lost phone is lost forever) and I can assure you almost everyone will follow the rules.

Well, Universal has done it for a while - and I agree it is a terrible system! Tron is really Disney's first ride that has required lockers so we'll have to see what the implementation will be like. Usually you carry everything on with you, even large backpacks, etc. I know Kali River Rapids had lockers, but I think they are just optional to keep your stuff from getting wet.

Wonder how Tron in Shanghai works in regards to lockers.

That's a good question. The only thing I could find is that lockers are "to the left" of the ride, so I think they are stand-alone and you duck in before you enter and after you leave.

One thing I just read was that you'd have to store all loose articles - "phones, hats, glasses...." I really hope I can wear my glasses - otherwise I won't be able to see anything. In a dark queue I will barely be able to navigate. At Universal you can always wear your glasses, even on something as intense as Rip Ride Rock-It (the first time I rode that I didn't know and stored my glasses in a locker, but an attendant told me they were fine). I do have a sport strap for rides like that, but I've literally never needed it at Disney (and I don't hit Uni that often).

The lockers are along side the queue line. Not actually in the line so that it doesn't block traffic, but next to it. After you ride, the exit takes on along side the locker area so you can retrieve your stuff.

Character Performer Auditions return for the Disney College Program
Today is a big day, and one that you all have long-awaited – the character performer role for incoming Disney College Program participants is BACK! Character performers bring beloved Disney characters to life throughout Walt Disney World® Resort , and now, once again, Disney College Program participants will be part of this magic beginning in the fall 2023 season!

We’re so excited about this news (we know you are, too) so we’re sharing everything you need to know about the return of this opportunity and how to prepare.

First things first, begin by applying to the Disney College Program!

Here’s a helpful step by step:

  1. Apply to the Disney College Program.
  2. Create a profile on DisneyAuditions.com if you have not previously done so.

(Be sure to use the same email on your Disney Auditions profile and College Program application)

  3. Learn the movement combination shown in the audition posting and record a virtual audition of your performance.
  4. Link your virtual audition video in your DisneyAuditions.com profile.
  5. Check-in to the audition on DisneyAuditions.com. You must link your video before checking in to the audition.
Following the deadline to submit your virtual audition, candidates selected to move forward will be contacted via email to attend an in-person callback audition for further consideration. Candidates will only be contacted if they are selected to move forward in the audition process. If you are not contacted, you will still be considered for other roles on the Disney College Program, but you will no longer be in consideration for the Character Performer role.

Now for the callbacks!

For continued consideration of the Character Performer role, you must attend an in-person callback. In-person callback auditions will take place in select cities March 3-10, 2023. Please note, these are closed auditions only for those selected to move forward in the audition process.

Once all in-person callbacks have concluded, individuals will be notified of the results via email no later than one week prior to arrival. If you are not selected for the Character Performer role after attending an in-person callback, you may be offered a different role on the Disney College Program.

We don't know the answers right now but my guess is that all loose articles can't ride with you. If true then it will the first attraction guests won't be able to have their phone out while riding.
Didn't they just ban phones for Space Mountain?

You just can't hold them - they can be in your pocket or a secured bag.

ETA: Of course, I did once lose a phone on Sapce that was IN my pocket, but I imagine that's less common. I did get it back from lost and found a day later.
My dh lost his phone that was in his pocket on space too. It was during an after hours event and we wasted so much time trying to help them find it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yeah, I was wearing some new shorts and the pockets were just a little more shallow than I was used to. I wouldn't have expected it to come out, but it did. I reported it at the ride and they did try to check (I had remembered my rocket number actually) but they didn't find it. I filed the report at City Hall and about 24 hours later there was an email saying they had found it. I picked it up from the Disney Springs lost & found window - no problem!

Yahooo!!

Does anyone recall of D23 and AP were before or after CM previews for guardians?

If this is the case where the ride opens 4/21 and CM previews which were before AP/DVC are 4/4-8 than I’d assume that AP previews will be Sorcerer and Incredipass only

I say this as a pirate passholder who is doing an on site room only the 13th-17th for springtime surprise and can only do the parks the 16th & 17th due to block out dates

Cargo pants with Velcro pockets flaps for the win!

I'm thinking they're not going to frisk people getting on Tron, so a phone (other other loose stuff) secured in one's pocket seems doable.
