How many times is too many?

I can't tell you how many times my 24 year old son has said, "You're going to Disney AGAIN." Many family members have echoed this same thought, even though it has not stopped them from using our points for free. I do get a little tired of hearing this.
I enjoy it, I call it "my happy place". I don't know why I have to explain this over and over. Not sure why others care, since it's not their money. We are proud DVC owners, annual passholders to both, World, and Land. We have been members for a few years and are barely using our points for Aulani, our first visit, in April.
Of course after our last child, age 11, is out of the house it will be nice to travel the world for extended vacations, for now I will stick to 1 week here and there, a couple of times a year. Sure we could have taken the kids internationally in the past, things just never seemed to work out that way.

How many times have you been? When did you finally say, "I'm done."

Thanks for reading. Sorry for the small rant. I knew only fellow DVC members would understand :)

Camping, Fishing, Hawaii, Golfing, Musicals, Concerts, Skiing, Marathons, Sports games - many people have passions they love that they repeat often. I don’t need to understand why they love to repeat them - it brings them joy as does Disney for me. As Elsa would sing “Let It Go” and celebrate my happiness like I celebrate yours”.

Thanks didn't look at it that way!

That sounds like a them problem. If you enjoy going, go. Don't let others rain on your parade. Plus like you said, they're not even the ones paying for the trip.

I still get excited when I go. I even have a trip booked for this weekend - staying at the Polynesian for the first time ever in my entire life.
Poly, how fun, GREAT resort!

How many times have I been? Before DVC... about 15? After DVC... 30+.
When will I finally say "I'm Done"? Never. As long as there is a Disney World, I will keep going (although right now I have a few frustrations with the company as a whole - but those will pass I am sure).

How many times have I heard "you are going AGAIN?" from family? About a dozen. I think they have gotten tired of asking and they get that it's where I go.

How many times have I heard "you are going AGAIN?" from friends? More than I can count. They never get it. I usually reply with "You're going to the beach AGAIN?" or something along those lines.

Listen... what others think - bear it no mind. The truth is they think it once or twice and then their brain moves on to other things, just like yours does. It's a fleeting thought and it bears absolutely none of your attention.

For me, Disney is where I go to stay sane. It's my de-stressor. It's the place where I can recharge my batteries and survive another 6 months. It's a special place to me because it has helped me to center myself during some very difficult times in my life.

I'm sure it means something equal to you. That's what's important. You keep that in your heart, and you do what's right for you. If that means traveling to Africa, then travel to Africa. If it means going to Disney, than you go to Disney, and you have the best time ever - every single time you go, and don't worry about anyone else.

From your DVC family, you will never hear that phrase. If we say anything, it will be "Welcome home!"

Many, many times. Too many to count going back the last 20 years. And I am grateful for every trip! My extended family and friends still make snide remarks about the frequency with that we go, but as someone else already said: that's a 'them' problem, not mine.

I just finished one trip in 2023, had a glorious time, and have two more scheduled yet in 2023.

My mom just said it to me this week, haha. The funniest are the people who say that to me, but they ALL go to the same place at the same beach every year. I’ve started saying “Yep, you going back to Ocean Lakes?” When they say yes, I’ll respond with “ I know we’ll all enjoy our favorite vacation spots, then.” And move along.

I have been going twice a year, sometimes 3 times a year for the last 15 years and I have no plans to top. I am entering the retirement zone in the next few years and will either increase my trips or just stay longer. I have gradually increased my DVC points with that in mind.

That’s my goal 👍🏼

My 32 year old son railed against me for this 2 weeks before Christmas. He also told me that I was too old to be feeling the pangs of empty nest and that I needed to move on - I had already been a mother and my time was over. I'm 56 and hadn't seen my daughter's child - my one precious grandchild in nearly a year (had just found out that night that another is on its way).
He'll never understand that I became a single mom within 2 years of buying into DVC in the early 90s and that I fought tooth and nail to make those 8 more years of payments on a barely there salary until I made it in the world. He'll never understand the hopes and dreams I had of giving my children something more - something to aspire to. The future I envisioned for my grandchildren. He doesn't get the joy I had when I was able to add 1100 points in resale a few years ago - ensuring wonderful vacations for friends and family and a partial retirement someday.
I don't decorate my house in Disney decor. I don't believe the characters are real (take it easy there, DISers). Most trips, I don't even use my trusty AP.
Now, just 2 months later, I find myself in an awful position of having to sell most of my points and not fast enough. Add it to my pile of mourning. Just one more thing that didn't work out. More salt in the wound but I've come to terms with it. One of my younger co-workers called me Lemony Snicket the other day, it was funny; sort of.
But, I will forever miss those points, however grateful I am to have had them and more grateful to be fortunate to keep some and, sadly, I will not be able to forget my Son's freedom to speak to me the way he did and the fury he had because I spent my very hard earned money on a dream that we would all be a family forever - a real, American, normal family or the harsh mocking of my Disney travel habits. I travel quite a bit to many places so it was unnecessarily cruel. (and, no, neither of us could have guessed at the series of circumstances that happened 3 weeks ago all at once).
So, OP, next time someone comments on your travel. Smile brightly, fill that mouth with sugar and say, "Why bless your heart, for asking. I'm flattered you're so interested." and then change the topic.
Have a DVC day!

We have been so many times I lost count. Not so much in the last few years, so we sold most of our DVC points.

We just went to the parks for 2 days over the weekend, and it may be our last multi day visit. The theme parks are no longer for us. So crowded. So expensive and so much pre planning. We could not wait to leave the MK.

We had just gotten off the fantasy and it was like night and day. We will stick to cruising. Others can have the parks. We still have lots of non expire tickets, so we will do a day at Epcot every couple years to use them up. Going to sell our last DVC contract this year also.

"You're going to Disney AGAIN."
There are many threads about this. Have you ever said to your friends who own a cottage "You're going to the cottage AGAIN?". Likely not. My friends and family have long since stopped asking me, now they just say "So? When are you going?" They put me in the category of "that special family member". :rotfl2: I'm good with being "special".
