Ohio Train Derailment

That's very true. But you know what is a bigger financial burden? Massive medical bills from the inevitable health issues that will be caused by this. It will take at least a decade, if not more, for *someone* to take the blame and pay out for this disaster. Like, the PACT act JUST passed, providing care for veterans who were exposed to burn pits nearly 20 years ago. In the meantime, you'll be on the hook for yourself.

There is no good answer, but people do have to make hard choices when faced with a disaster like this.
If you don't have it, you don't have it.

It's not a situation where you have to convince these people to make the smarter financial choice. If you don't have enough to pick up and relocate, there aren't many alternatives.

So on the topic of White House aid it has just come out that the Governor is asking for Federal assistance.

This is just an article I saw on Google https://www.wlwt.com/article/mike-d...l-assistance-white-house-derailment/42939046#

Now what's interesting is the Governor is saying FEMA told him he's not been eligible for assistance, which from what I'm gleaning is why he is now requesting assistance from the Federal government via different means.

My big question is will FEMA come out with a statement either supporting or refuting that claim that they have said they are not eligible for aid? And is that really the case? Given what has been said about the EPA being involved and whatnot I'm struggling to figure out what would bar FEMA from helping out in this disaster unless they are saying a trail derailment doesn't fall under what they consider disasters? Does anyone know has FEMA helped on other train derailments?
Oh look at that. There is indeed more to the story.

Case in point....Did you hear about the Van Buren Township train derailment outside of Detroit today? No, well that is because it is not front page on CNN or MSNBC. It is trending on Twitter, however....lol. Twitter can be a jumping off point for researching something further.

You mean this one:

I see at least 4 national news outlets reporting on it. This is in my Google news feed.

Yep, have seen it on a couple major news outlets. Your point again?

People did it in large number across the country during Covid. There's a difference between struggling to do it and flat out cannot do it. Average family income in this area is very low. Many of them flat out cannot afford to do it.
The Covid money wasn’t instant. We were a month or so in before they sent out checks to mostly people that didn’t need help. This disaster aside, everyone at every income should be able to survive a week on their own, but you know a lot of people don’t even keep a weeks worth of food in their house.

I realize this is a very low income area. My point was everyone should have some kind of emergency preparedness you can’t just sit or wait for government help. This or worse could happen anywhere.

Thankfully the media is not the government in this country.

And neither the media nor the government were directly responsible for what occurred here.
Some might argue your first statement. No one has said they caused it.

I never said I don't see or follow mainstream media. I said they gaslight us. I do still see headlines (how could you not?). And, I do read mainstream media sometimes to get one side of the story and then I research more. Actually, we
I would hope we can all agree that having the freedom to question the media is a good thing. If we lose that we are no longer a free society.

Check out some of the videos today about the water - people showing you what happens when you stir up the creeks, etc. Definitely not clean and should not be drinking if you have well water, etc.

Some people have debunked that because algae can cause the same rainbow sheen. There’s several articles written about non petroleum sheen on water. Just do a google search. There is away to tell the difference. I believe if it’s algae it will break apart if it’s disturbed and petroleum it clumps together. This sheen could be from neither of those for all we know.

There is always an option to pack some bags and just leave. There are shelters, and low cost housing options in other places.

Correct. In addition, Vinyl Chloride turns into hydrochloric acid when mixed with water, and HCL does not have a sheen like that either. It's clear. I've taken plenty of chemistry labs to remember that.

There is a severe shortage of affordable housing. How can these people just leave their jobs and the things they have managed to save in order to escape this nightmare? Please don’t minimize how devastating that would be. It’s not that simple.

I never said it was simple or an easy choice. I specifically said it was a hard choice. People don't like making hard choices, naturally. But everyone ultimately is responsible for looking out for themselves.

I took advanced chemistry in college and I don’t remember any of it. 😂 You must have paid attention in class.

Plus these are people who have been dealing with high inflation and rising interest rates over the past year or more. Lots of people who had a small cushion have had to use it just living day to day life.

This is true, but if you were in a life and death situation wouldn't you do what you had to do to save your life.

The real problem is they are not getting any help from FEMA like you would see with natural disasters. Why this is I don't know. Are there any Go fund me accounts to help these people?

Again - there has been no request by the Governor of Ohio for a federal disaster declaration. That has to be the first step before FEMA is allowed to intervene. It doesn't have to be a natural disaster. The Christmas Day 2020 Downtown Nashville explosion was a federal declared disaster that was eligible for FEMA aid and support.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced today the Federal Emergency Management Agency will provide direct assistance to Metro Nashville-Davidson County under the federal Public Assistance program for the emergency response to the Christmas day bombing in downtown Nashville.

But if you go to his website it says otherwise. So who's lying.
