The Contemporary - Should We Change??

We are currently booked at POFQ, but now have an opportunity to stay at The Contemporary at a very discounted rate. We have never stayed at either resort. It will cost more to move, but it's a rate I probably won't get again.

Who loves the Contemporary - and why (or why not?).

Note: we are adults so no kids -- and theming not a priority for us.

Never stayed at Contemporary but if its a price you can live with I would take Deluxe and a monorail resort any day over POFQ. You will get access to the EMH also and be able to walk to MK. The price difference for that is worth it. I found POFQ to be nice an quite when I stayed a long time ago but that was before I could afford Deluxe. I try to stay Deluxe every trip now. I actually booked Bay Lake for my upcoming trip but its my sisters bucket list hotel so giving her the room and staying at Yacht Club instead. Crescent Lake Area is my favorite place to be.

Agree with PP, I try to always stay deluxe if I can. I've never stayed at the Contemporary proper, but my family stayed at Bay Lake Tower once. The amenities of the Contemporary, walking distance to MK, the Monorail, good restaurants shops at all of the Monorail resorts, etc. It really was a wonderful trip.

For sure... worth trying it at least once. I am not a fan of the Incredibles upgrades, as they seem like IP forced into a resort with almost no thought, a tiny budget, and with no theming connection. However, that is minor compared to the monorail, walking distance to MK, historic significance, etc. Give it a go!

We recently stayed at the Contemporary - Garden Wing. We wanted to Garden Wing as it is more relaxing (at least for us). We were fortunate and got a first floor room with a patio. Turns out we really enjoyed sitting on the patio. It was a short walk to the tower, which we did not mind at all. I would stay there again. Also, we've stayed at French Quarters a few times. Although we really love French Quarters, we would stay at the Contemporary again. Have a great stay!

I stayed at the Contemporary (tower theme park view) last month and it was amazing and magical. I'd definitely go for the Contemporary over POFQ if I had a choice (caveat that I've not stayed at POFQ before).

What I loved:

The room itself - really liked how new and nicely refurbed everything was. Incredibles theming was OK with me - it was nice to see it around the room but I could also ignore it if I wanted. But the room itself was incredibly comfortable and nice to be in.

Theme park view - amazing and magical, I actually could just stare at the view all day long. Plus fireworks from the room with music!

Proximity to MK - so lovely being able to just go in and out of MK as I wished. On my check in day I actually just walked into MK to get the 1pm VQ for Tron then walked out again. And one day I got a Citrus Swirl float and just slowly ate that as I wandered out of MK back to Contemporary.

Was cool to have the monorail going through the Contemporary. I'm not a massive fan of the monorail (live in a city, and my daily commute is on far more efficient and nicer trains) but I did spend a few hours just going around the Poly and GF and it was really nice to be able to just take the monorail around the resorts, then head back to the Contemporary whenever I wanted.

California Grill - I love this restaurant and always try to have a meal here each trip. I booked this for when I was staying at the Contemporary and there was something really nice about being able to just go up and have dinner there, then go back down to my room, without having to deal with transport back to wherever I was staying.

How "self contained" and rain proof the Contemporary is - I really appreciated this the one day it rained for a couple of hours - I could just wander around from my room to the gift shops and QS or around the resort even while it was raining hard outside! Can't do that at a lot of the Disney resorts where there are multiple buildings.

Being able to skip crowded transportations at Park Closing.... well worth it. If your not a early entry or a stay till closing type of person, that might not really matter. But as others have said the Contemporary offers a lot over a moderate Resort.

MK Resorts and the Boardwalk Area Resorts are two areas that allow you to easily experience shopping, food and atmosphere of other resorts, while also have access to the nearby Parks.

I love CR. It's a vintage WDW resort, iconic. There are few places I'd rather stay at WDW if I wanted a hotel room. I'm not crazy about the decor of the re-designed rooms, but I haven't stayed in one either. The rooms are enormous, and staying in the Tower is the next best thing to the Castle Suite at MK. Great dining options, from casual to dressy. It's a no-brainer for me.

We LOVE the contemporary both for Magic Kingdom access and resort-hopping. I also love how much less busy the pool is, compared to the other MK area resorts. It is really perfect if you're just wanting a quiet(er) spot to relax by the water. Probably one of my absolute favorite places to spend a pool or beach day without kids!

Do double check it really is a good rate by pricing it yourself on the website and seeing what current promotions are available if FOMO is your motivation ("it's a rate I probably won't get again"), you should also re-price your current booking and make sure there is not a better deal on it. I know I sound Debbie Downer but Disney has been putting out targeted upgrade promotions for a while now that prey directly on our FOMO tendencies, sometimes they are good unique deals and sometimes they are not.

I already checked the web site before to see the rates. And I promise this rate is definitely very discounted! It's just the total is more than FQ even with the discount. But I've gone ahead and changed because I think even paying a little more in this case will be well worth it based on what others have said.

Main Tower building
If it’s a rate that is comfortable for you and the discount is good/once-in-lifetime price, I’d definitely go go for it. If you just adults, the CR has lots of good “grown-up” restaurants—-steakhouse 71 & California grill.

I think you made a great decision. You will have a great trip.

We always stay Deluxe and have tried many different resorts. We weren't that keen on the Contemporary when we stayed there and probably won't again (unless maybe in BLT) but it's a location that can't be beat - walking distance to MK, close to the MK bus depot so you can easily go to other resorts, monorail, etc. There's also some good food options like California Grill and Steakhouse 71. While not a personally preferred hotel, I'd take it over POFQ for location alone.
