When even the tightest budget doesn't hold up...

It's with a heavy heart that I a while ago had to take the countdown off my signature here. :sad1:

Even though I had set up a very reasonable long term budget for being able to set aside some money every month towards my next Disney vacation. I have had to face the harsh reality of realizing that when things change in life, also the planning ahead will have had to change accordingly (in this case).

I refuse to give up my dream though, and a Disney vacation is still firmly planted in my mind as a long time goal, but the time frame that I had set up just had to change.

And if I would not be able to make it across the pond, whatever I manage to save up will then be put to a Disneyland Paris vacation! There will be Mickey Ears in the future, make no mistake about that. :earsboy:

I'll be continuing to follow this section of the boards closely, have gotten so m,any good tips from here! :thumbsup2

Hopefully I'll be able to put up a new countdown on my signature here again soon! :wizard:

Hang in there!

Sometimes with budgets, like diets, we set goals that maybe are not necessarily unrealistic but extremely challenging. That's when it's time to readjust to something that is doable.

Good luck!:goodvibes:thumbsup2 There will always be Mickey ears in our future; it's just a matter of when. ;)

Thanks @ruadisneyfan2 . :wave2:

I am trying not to feel too bummed out by it, and I will keep my head up thinking that there will be a trip coming up. Just at the moment I don't know when and actually where even.

Back to square one..

Thanks! :smickey:

As a huge Disney fan I guess one is always in some sort of planning mode. Now it's back to pre-planning browsing and reading again. :earsboy:

You are not alone, me and DH have not had a vacation since 2011. And nothing in site for a very long time. I am satisfied with what we have and what we can and can not do. I am grateful for people who can do things, and I enjoy reading about their vacation and pictures. I am sure your dream will come true.

So Sorry about your WDW vacation not being fulfilled, that's a bummer,
but on a positive spin, I'm jealous and would love to be able to visit Disneyland Paris, but can't afford it!

It stinks. Even when you're following your budget to the letter, sometimes unexpected things happen that can throw you out of whack.

I get it. And I get your disappointment. But I am happy at your optimism and hope you get there sooner than you think!

I totally get where you are coming from.

Although it may take some adjustment, I've found when in a similar situation I can be happy with a more modest / budget friendly get-a-way. We did a budget friendly driving trip to Memphis, TN one spring break, just a three night stay vs. a week trip to WDW (budget). The planning and trip, though, were still a blast.

We too ended up deciding against a Bavaria/Alps summer get-a-way that we were originally planning -- just too pricey with other unexpected expenses that have come up, but we are super keen and excited now about our much more budget friendly trip to Colorado and the mountains there. $300 pp airfare instead of $1400 pp airfare and way fewer expensive guides because we know the language // means it will work with our budget so much better.

Might not work for everyone, but this worked for us.

I have a dd with a chronic illness. The treatment is costing $1000 a month so I can relate with having to postpone vacation. I'm so sorry, It is really hard when our vacation plans have to be put on hold.

Man that really stinks.:( I'm glad that you're getting to go to DL Paris to at least get something of a Disney fix. We had to drastically scale back our vacation plans too. A friend of our's offered us the use her extended family's vacation cottage in the English countryside for free this summer. Unfortunately after doing a lot of price shopping for airline tickets we couldn't come up with the money for the tickets. We decided to go to Boston instead because we could get the airline tickets for free with our credit card points. I hope you someday are able to find a way to go to WDW. It's a great goal to have.

I find using the word "postponed" helpful, keeps the door open. Also, with so many updates occurring at DHS, 2020 or later seems like an exciting/better bang for your buck time to go and the crowds at Pandora may actually be manageable by then :rotfl:. Just keep putting away what you can, when you can. WDW isn't going anywhere.

Wºoºw!

Thank you all so much for your kind words, support and understanding. :thanks:

:disrocks:

I just needed to went as I did feel really bummed out. I have picked up myself considerably, just by stopping at The Disney Store on my way home one day. That was the micro-fix I needed. :thumbsup2

And yeah, as mentioned I guess that as a huge Disney Fan one is sort of always in some stage of planning the next trip. Thinking about it, going through different options in broad strokes and of course always keeping an eye out on the Disney related news feeds, social media posts and hanging out here at The DIS! :surfweb: :grouphug: :cheer2:

:rainbow: Thank you awesome peeps! :rainbow:

Congratulations! I'm proud of you. I am a personal financial counselor and have sat with hundreds of people who have not been able to see this hard truth. Going on trips, buying a fancy car, getting nails done and wearing the latest tennis shoes all come at a price, and sometimes that price is retirement, or health care or paying bills on time. You are seeing the big picture my friend and choosing wisely. Keep saving up and I know that day will come for you.

Keep watching videos on youtube of disney rides, dance in your kitchen to disney music and wear those Mickey T-shirts! It helps keep the magic going! Bless you and keep your eyes on your goals! You will do great!

the planning is half the fun :thumbsup2

I completely understand. I went to WDW 20 years ago for a few hours with Marching Band and I've been trying to go back ever since. We made plans to go back last year during the week after Thanksgiving but my DH got a new job with more money a couple months beforehand so we ended up canceling. At the time I thought well that's great we can go next year and have an even better trip. WE save every way we can and never really splurge on anything but today after making ADRs we started hearing a weird noise in our only vehicle that should have a minimum of five years left. We took it to be looked at and found out that our engine is about to go so unless some miracle happens we will most likely have to cancel this year and maybe go next year. I try to just keep thinking that when we do get there it will mean even more and we will enjoy it even more but I know it's hard to be positive.

It's a major pain when things don't work out, but keep on planning & saving! I'm betting there are mouse ears still in your future!

As I sit here and type this, we were planning on being on the other side of the pond visiting sites in England and Ireland starting today. A roof replacement and a central air replacement happened and we had to postpone. We are doing a cheaper trip, but not the big blowout trip to celebrate our son's high school graduation. The door is open for August 2018. If not, May 2019.

Keep planning and keep the faith.
