While we were enjoying our rest, the boys had finished up golfing and headed over for their “lunch date” I had made them! They both wanted to eat at Sci Fi, but Mom and I weren’t really interested, so this was the perfect way to give them what they wanted….without having to be involved!!
After their lunch, they went to the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular….is that even what it’s called? I make it a point not to have to see it. They also did Star Tours before heading back to meet us at Pop for our evening plans—a night at Animal Kingdom.
Jimmy woke up and enjoyed some pizza in bed…a very late lunch/early dinner for him!

We headed out to AK, while I did some rearranging of our FPs. We had originally planned to see Tough to be a Bug, but since we had seen it the other day, we were able to move things around and get a 4:15 FP to meet Mickey and Minnie.
When we pulled into the bus stop area, it was really cool to see the floating mountains of Pandora peeking out from behind the show building. I’m sort of surprised they didn’t have more of this area behind wraps or walls---we could see a lot of activity every time we pulled in or out of this area.

After entering the park and heading to meet Mickey and Minnie, I had planned our next FP to be a ride back to the Cretaceous, which Jimmy started to freak out about before we were even lining up. I think I remembered the ride a little less…ok A LOT less…bouncy and shaky than it actually was. Poor Jimmy—he barely survived.

After Dinosaur! I had to let him have some down time to chill in the bone yard, digging and sliding around to recover! Mom, Dad and I waited in line to meet Santa Goofy. There was a DJ and all the lights and holiday decorations made for a really fun atmosphere.

We grabbed Jimmy and Rob from the Boneyard and walked over to the Tree of Life to see the Awakenings I had heard so much about. It was really cool to see the projection from start to finish, but was definitely confusing when we walked up in the middle of one of them. We didn’t really “get it.” Once we saw the next animal transition from the tree to the moving animation it was truly incredible, and the music makes it seem extra surreal, like you really just saw something come to life in front of you. It’s hard to describe and the picture doesn’t really do it justice, but it was certainly worth stopping to take a look. They tape out the viewing areas on the sidewalk, which is helpful so people aren’t just stopping in the middle of the walkway to watch.

Our final plan in AK for tonight was a FP for Festival of the Lion King. Our FP time was 6:30-6:45 for a 7 p.m. show. We got in line around 6:30 and really did wait until almost 7 before the doors were opened. It was SO stuffy and really a lot of pushy people in a big open area more so than an organized line. Once we got inside, people were rushing all over the place—I’m not sure I’d waste a FP on this again. I think I’d rather wait in an actual line than what we dealt with.
We ended up in the giraffe section (I’m still not sure I buy that “giraffe noise” they have us make, but what can you do? You can’t always be a lion!)
It seemed like a shorter performance than I remember seeing previously. Notably absent was the song, “He Lives in You,” which is one of my favs.
After the show, we wound our way through the walkways and out of the park back to our bus. It was really odd to be strolling through AK in the dark, and it really is still very dark, not much extra lighting. I wonder if they’ll change this as they start to have more evening hours going forward.
Up next: Marceline to the Magic Kingdom and Date Night!
