Alaska Ketchikan port

Going on an Alaskan itinerary in May, and I'm running into issues narrowing down my port adventures. Has anyone been able to go to the Lumberjack Show and fit something else in? About how long is the show?

In 2016 we did the DCL excursion with the Saxman Native village and the lumberjack show. The native village was first, then they dropped us off at port with our tickets, we had enough time to walk around Creek street to shop before the show. I think the show was an hour? It's very close to the pier, so very easy to do on your own, and you'd definitely have time to do something else... depending upon how long the something else is. Give yourself 1.5-2 hrs for the show (time to be seated, show, exiting show.)

We did the lumberjack show and Potlatch totem poles park excursion booked with DCL. We did the lumberjacks first followed by the park. Afterwards we had time to walk along Creek St for some shopping. This was back in 2014.

Depends on length of stay in port. But usually, yes. Three shows a day, one hour in length.

If you don’t need to be escorted to the venue, you can book via the website and work it around your schedule. I don’t remember if there are advantages to booking through a cruise line. All seats seem pretty equal.

Ketchikan is very walkable. Only a long excursion (usually water-based) should make doing the Lumberjack Show out of the question. We did the show and a Zodiac boat excursion the same day.

The Last Frontier. Have fun!

We did the first lumberjack show available and then did a self guided walking tour of ketchikan where we got a map at the tourist center on the dock and walked to the totems, salmon run, and explored the shops on creek street. We also rode the funicular on creek street up the hill and walked back down via the married man’s path (which I highly recommend over climbing UP the path, which is very steep—we saw a lot of out of breath tourists going the other way). It was very scenic and charming and didn’t take very long. We saw lots of salmon, some harbor seals in the creek, and a little bit of rainforest. Our friends who were doing the same thing on their own even saw a black bear but We also got some fun souvenirs on creek street. And best of all were never more than a 15 minute walk from the ship so no worries about missing the all aboard.

We booked a private rainforest and totem park excursion we left at 11:30 back by 3. The Disney show started at 4 we could have gotten walk up ticket (I’d do this day of much cheaper) but alas dh and kids were exhausted. They got back on the ship and I walked all around creek st. Ketchikan is awesome and I’d definitely leave time to walk down town. I’d highly recommend our tour with wild wolf tours the rain forest and totem park are so unique it was a great experience for our girls.

We're going in May too! The lumberjack show sounds like something we can decide day of, which is nice compared to most things to do. That's the last port day so if we're exhausted by that point we don't have to do anything other than wander around.

The Lumberjack Show venue. The setting is designed to make the audience a part of the experience. (pre-show; once it starts, lots of activity)
