Close Encounters of the SQUIRREL! Kind. A Farewell to Wishes Solo Trip Mar 2017 - 10/25 New PTR!

Four Parks, Four Plutos Done! Part 1

I woke up on Sunday March 19, 2017 still feeling kind of crappy. My stomach was just not cooperating. As a result I left the room around 7:15 am when I had planned to leave at 7:00 am. I did pause for a minute to take some room view pictures.

And my room number.

I had also received this ugly thing on my door.

I don’t have anything in my notes about the buses on this day so I’m assuming it was quick. Oh, and where was I heading?

Hollywood Studios for morning EMHs! I only planned on spending a few hours before hopping back to MK for the rest of the day. Once again I had no FPs at HS so it was the TSM dash for me. But first I had to make it through bag check. I was about third in line to get my bag checked when the CM stopped us because the lines were extending all the way back to bag check and he couldn’t let any more people through. Ugh, I should have moved faster that morning!

Well before 8 am though, they started letting people in and I made it through bag check and into the park only to run into this.

It’s not quite as bad as it looks, the rope was only halfway up the street, I don’t think even as far as Pluto on the top of the one building.

Right at 8 am they dropped the rope and I joined the crowd streaming towards TSM.

Here’s where I ended up in the line.

I had a great game and scored one of my highest scores. Still not 200,000 but I will get there someday! And I'm pretty sure I was best in vehicle but don't have a picture to prove it.

Sadly, as mild as it is, TSM made me quite nauseous that morning. I immediately realized that TOT was not going to be an option for me that day. I was really sad since that’s one of my favorites but better safe than sorry. Instead I headed towards One Man’s Dream to line up for the Moana meet and greet. There was one group, a mother and daughter in front of me when I got in line but it wasn’t long before this happened behind me.

I passed the time by calling Jim to check up on Alex. He said he was much better that morning but was worried because he thought Ellie had ringworm. What the heck? I was pretty sure there was no way she had ringworm but he wouldn’t be convinced otherwise and took her to the vet along with Alex that morning. I ended up being on the phone/texts with him off and on for the rest of the day but I’ll tell the whole story now to get it out of the way. Turns out she just had a bug bite (which I kind of figured) but the vet noticed she was limping. Jim and I thought she was but she didn’t do it all the time and we hadn’t been able to get her to do it at the vets. So she got to stay and have some x-rays done. Our vet saw something wrong with her elbow so she sent us to an orthopedic specialist. I ended up taking her there after I got home from my trip. Long story short, she had what is called “Shortened Radius Bone Syndrome”. Basically her radius bone stopped growing early than normal making it shorter than the ulna bone. It can be caused by trauma to the leg or just a birth defect but we will never know since she was limping from the day we brought her home. This was causing serious damage to her elbow joint since the bones were aligned wrong so she went for surgery the very next day. The orthopedic vet cleaned up the bone fragments in her elbow and took a slice out of her ulna bone to make the two bones even. This lead to six weeks in a cast with crate confinement which lead to many nights of this sad face.

After the cast came off she had four more weeks of crate confinement. Needless to say it was a rough 10 weeks. And on top of all that, Alex fell of the bed and hurt his back. Luckily it was muscular only but he was hurting and on meds for a few weeks. Then, we found a strange lump on the side of Sierra’s nose (which thank goodness was benign) so she went in to have that removed and also had her teeth cleaned. The vet ended up pulling 18 teeth! Poor thing was so sore and grumpy for about two weeks.

Sorry for that little interruption, we had quite the rough spring but everyone seems to be happy and healthy for the moment, knock on wood. The orthopedic vet was extremely pleased at how well Ellie’s leg healed. She has to be on joint supplements for the rest of her life and may have arthritis someday but for now she’s back to chasing squirrels with a vengeance.

I managed to catch this cute picture a few day ago.

Of course Eddie is missing from the shot but he never gets up on that stool anymore, usually he’s just sleeping somewhere. Alright, let’s get back to the TR. Where were we? Oh yeah, here…

They let us in to the meet and greet area right at 9 am. The meet and greet was cute and I was as awkward as ever. I meant to say I didn’t like to sail and was more of a land lover but when she asked me if I was a Wayfarer I just said yes. She asked me if I had found any islands and I said not yet but I was trying.

When I exited the ride, I noticed a few new displays near the entrance to the theater. There was the rose and Belle’s dress from the new live action B&TB.

And a few other items.

I think they were showing the Beauty and the Beast preview but I decided not to see it and headed out instead. This is what the line looked like for Moana when I left. Keep in mind there was a room beyond that doorway that had weave lines.

And this was the posted wait time.

I’m kind of glad I got in line when I did even though I missed the second half of EMHs to do so.

Four Parks, Four Plutos Done! Part 2

I had another important meet and greet to do but it didn’t start till 9:30 am and my stomach was still giving me fits. I decided something kind of bland to eat would be nice so I got pretzel #2 for the trip along with a coke.

I sat on the same planter in the animation court yard that Mom and I took a break on back in December. Once I finished my pretzel, I got in line to meet my main dog in Park #4. I think there was a few families in front of me but it didn’t take long at all. Pluto LOVED my bag!

Four parks, four Plutos done!!

Since I was right there and rides were not an option (even if my stomach was OK, lines were massive at that point), I decided to catch a few more new to me characters. First up was Doc McStuffins. I was first in line when she came out.

When I finished with her, I saw that Jake had no line at all so I visited him also.

The only other character in the area was Sofia the First. I hadn’t met her but her line was huge, I estimated at least an hour. I did have time but it would have meant that I wouldn’t have time for anything else. I really wanted to shop some so I headed towards Hollywood Blvd. I stopped twice for Photopass pictures along the way.

I got a magic shot at the second stop.

As I started down Hollywood Blvd, I heard the announcement for the March of the First Order so I stopped to watch.

I didn’t know it but the place I was standing was perfect because they stopped right in front of me.

When they continued on to the stage, I chose not to follow and instead headed to the stores. I shopped all along Hollywood Blvd and then continued down Sunset Blvd doing the same. I didn’t find anything to buy at that time.

I decided at that point that I was done with HS, lines were too long for any of the rides and I had done all the meet and greets I had wanted too. So I checked in for the 11:20 am Express Bus to MK. The Express Bus location in HS is down near RnRC.

Looking behind me from that same spot.

I was a few minutes early so I sat on a wall outside of RnRC for a few minutes and relaxed. The pretzel had definitely helped and I was looking forward to my lunch ADR at BOG. As the CM led me out to the bus, he asked if I was by myself. I told him I was and he reached in his pocket and handed me these.

Yay! Two anytime FPs for MK! These would really help because I knew MK would be really crowded again. So I would be starting off MK with 5 FPs.

Wow, ADR day for your next trip already? Time sure goes fast! Your plans sound great!

Aw man sorry to hear about Ellie :( And the rest of your doggie issues for that matter! I'm glad everyone is doing ok now. Love that pic of the 4 dogs looking out the window, so cute!

Sounds like TSMM and Moana were smart choices for EMH!

Great characters and PP pics!

Yay for those anytime FPs! What a nice CM!

My next trip is fast approaching and my ADR day is one week from today! So before I continue with the next post I thought I would do a quick outline of the trip as it stands right now. This is the first time I’ve done a race as WDW so planning has been a little different. I’m hoping that those who have done a race can point out anything that I may have missed.

The trip dates are January 2nd – 8th, 2018. I really thought about being there for New Year’s but ran into two problems. One, there was no way that Jim could leave before the 1st. His work runs sales numbers based on quarters so the last week of the year is crazy for him trying to ship out as much as possible to meet the numbers. A lot of years, he works right up till midnight on 12/31. The second problem was the dogs. Alex and Sierra are terrified of fireworks and I just could not imagine leaving them on New Year’s to deal with that by themselves. And we can’t leave on the 1st because the boarding place we use is closed for the holiday. So the 2nd it is.

ADR day means I need to get my crap together and figure out what I am doing! I am there from Jan. 3rd to the 9th so hopefully we can meet at some point.
DIS meets before the race.

Visit the marathon thread on the runDisney board before the races. We always set up a pre race meet up.

That poor Ellie. Crate confinement does not sound fun.

TSMM is always fun. Meeting Moana seems cool, wish they would bring her back.

I have yet to get an anytime FP....

Your January trip plans sound good

To me that's a great Buzz score! at least it's 6 digits, I'm lucky if I get near that.

Nice pics from the Once Upon a Time Castle show. Do they still have that now that the new Happily Ever After has so many projections?

Sounds like a fun morning at HS, Great score on the paper FP's!

Sorry your pups have had so many issues, glad they all seem good now, that's a cute pic of them looking out the window.

Your January trip plans sound awesome!! We have been moving things around and changing our plans like crazy, but our ADR day is Monday, so hopefully I am almost set!!! I have always wanted to eat dinner in the castle, so my hardest one to get is definitely going to be that one. Fingers crossed!!!!

We are doing AK the morning of the Expo then heading over there, so hopefully we'll bump into you :) I'm really getting excited, but I'll be feeling better about our plans once Monday is done!!

YAY!!!

The trip dates are January 2nd – 8th, 2018.
Hmmm... I may have a little overlap during your January trip dates :rolleyes1

I definitely want to see the new Star Wars show one way or the other.
Yes! Same here. Since I'm doing the Fantasmic lunch package in August, I'll already be at DHS for a nighttime show plus there are others I want to see in the other parks, so it took a lot of maneuvering plans for me to get back to see the Star Wars show but... I have to do it, too! :thumbsup2

I’m not even going to tell him about Chef Mickey’s till we get there. I’ve got to have some choices for me, right?
::yes::

I immediately realized that TOT was not going to be an option for me that day. I was really sad since that’s one of my favorites but better safe than sorry.
Oh, no! I have horrible motion sickness issues even without a random stomach issue so I can't even remember the last time I did ToT. I've had luck with Scopolamine in the past though, so I'm thinking that I might get a prescription for that prior to my August trip. Ugh to stomach ailments! :sad2:

This lead to six weeks in a cast with crate confinement which lead to many nights of this sad face.
Oh, no! Sounds like a pretty rough several weeks for some of your babies :sad2: Glad that they're all doing well now, though!

Pluto LOVED my bag!
YAY!!! You can see his excitement in the pictures :goodvibes

Yay! Two anytime FPs for MK!
Woohoo! :thumbsup2

Yep, I did my ADRs yesterday! I'll post about that here in a bit.

Got some more doggy news coming up.

I was really glad I went to the Moana meet so early, that line built up fast!

I was so happy that the CM gave me those FPs.

I am subscribed to that thread, just having a hard time keeping up, it moves so fast!

It was definitely not a fun time for us or Ellie.

I've maxed out the Buzz score twice now so it was a bit low for me. I did better the next day!

As far as I know OUAT is still showing. I haven't seen the new HEA show, looking forward to it in January.

More doggy news coming up next.

I'm glad you got everything you wanted! I'm hoping Disney doesn't announce a bunch of new things that will make me want me to rearrange my plans a hundred times. :rotfl2:

I almost did AK on the Expo morning but since Jim is not a fan of that park, I figured one full day will be more than enough for him. Plus I needed a second MK day for me.

We definitely need to meet up this trip! We need a redo of last time since we didn't get a photo.

YAY!!!

Hmmm... I may have a little overlap during your January trip dates :rolleyes1

You're there in January too? We must do a meet up!

Jim's not a huge fan of Fantasmic so I'm not going to worry about that one. I'm already going to make him watch HEA so I'll let him skip Fnatasmic. Plus I do want to see the new version of the Star Wars show.

I use Bonine for my motion sickness issues. It works fairly well but has it's limits. I can only do some rides like TOT and EE one time before I need to take a rest. I'm thinking of maybe adding Sea Bands this time as I'm kind of worried about Flights of Passage.

So I've got a Real Life Update coming, then a quick Pre-trip update for January and then finally two updates on this current TR.

First up, we had to say goodbye to my sweet Eddie this weekend.
:sad1:

The neurological issues he was having kept getting worse and worse. He was not able to stand much anymore and eating had become really hard. He loves food and watching him want to eat but not be able to was breaking my heart. He was just shy of his 16th birthday.

We have decided to keep our pack at 4 for now. Having 5 dogs was just a bit too much.

January Trip ADRs & Training

On a lighter note, I did our ADRs for January and got everything I wanted except for the ROL package which is not out yet. I have the following booked:

Beirgarten dinner
Chef Mickey's Brunch
50s Prime Time Lunch
Sci Fi Dinner
Via Napoli Dinner
Tusker House lunch (without ROL package. I wanted to have something booked just in case I don't get the package)
Be Our Guest lunch
Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party with Garden Plaza View.

As for training for the 5K, it's going pretty well. I've been getting on the treadmill here at work two times a week and then going to a local park on Sunday morning for a longer session. I've also been riding my stationary bike on the off days. I ran a 5K on July 4th in the downtown area about 10 minutes from my house. I finished with my best time yet, 41:03. Probably sounds really slow to most of the runners out there but for someone with a bum ankle, arthritic knees and allergies that cause breathing problems, I think it's pretty good. I would like to get under 40 minutes for one race before January. I plan to do one 5K a month between now and then. I have one coming up on August 12th and then on September 9th and I need to find races for Oct, Nov and Dec. Oh and here's a not so flattering picture of me after the race. I suck at selfies!

I Score a Top Secret Souvenir Part 1

Once again I was the only one on the bus from HS to MK and we arrived in 20 minutes. While riding to MK, I spent some time thinking about what I would use my two paper FPs on. I wanted to make sure I used them on rides that I would not otherwise be able to get FPs for.

Once I arrived at MK, I still had a ton of time before my lunch ADR at 1:25 pm so I headed down Main Street to see a certain blue alien. Unfortunately his line was cut off but I knew he would be back out at 12:30 pm so I spent some time wandering around the Emporium to see if there was anything I had missed the first day. I saw some pins and a sweatshirt I wanted but decided to get them on the way out that night.

I got in line about 10 minutes before Stitch was due to come out and I had some nice entertainment while I waited. First up was the trolley show.

I was on the backside of the show but some of the cast went up on the 2nd level of the train station and I could see them very well.

Next came the Movie It, Shake it parade.

I wish Judy and Nick had a regular meet and greet spot.

I was about third in line so it wasn’t long before I was meeting Stitch.

He was quite smitten and tried to leave with me. I was perfectly willing to take him home with me but the CM wouldn’t let him go.

It was now getting close to my ADR so I made my way towards Fantasyland. I stopped along the way to take some pictures of the castle in one of my favorite spots.

I checked in for my dinner and proceeded down the left side of the bridge since I had pre-ordered. About a month before my trip, Disney had released a new light up rose cup that immediately caused a frenzy. The cup was selling out and people were fighting over them. I had absolutely no use for that kind of cup but it was pretty so I added it to my pre-order. I had no idea if I would even get one if they were sold out. When I got to the cashier, she rang up my meal using a meal credit and then my chocolate cupcake with a snack credit. She then had a manager follow me to my table so I could complete the transaction for the rose cup. It was all top secret and hush, hush, I kind of felt like I was in a spy movie or something.

I found a seat in the Rose Gallery with this view.

The Manager charged me for the cup using my Magic Band and then came back with it all wrapped up in a bag so no one else would see it. I didn’t even dare take it out of the bag for fear that I would get mobbed for it. But I did take pictures once I got it home. The second picture shows it with the light turned on.

For my meal I got my usual turkey sandwich, hold the fixings, with fries.

I love this sandwich and can’t wait to have it again next January! For dessert I got the Triple Chocolate Cupcake which has quickly become my favorite dessert in all of WDW.

I took this next picture because I thought it was cool that I was charging my phone with my B&TB phone charger in BOG.

My first FP wasn’t until 3:30 pm and I wanted to use it towards the end to coordinate with my second FP so I had about two hours to kill before I needed to use it. I had finally decided what I wanted to use my first paper FP for. But first, I headed back down Main Street to the front and rented a locker. I didn’t want to carry the Rose cup all day plus it had gotten quite warm so I ditched my sweatshirt there too.

Then I turned right around and went back to Fantasyland to use my paper FP at Princess Fairytale Hall to meet Cinderella and Elena. I honestly had no clue who Elena was but she was a new character to me so I decided why not. She was super popular at that moment and there was no way that I would get a 4th electronic FP for her so I thought it was a good use of the paper FP.

First up was Cinderella. She asked me what I had done that day and when I mentioned meeting Stitch, she told me that he was blue because he had gotten in the way of the Fairy Godmother when she was making Cinderella’s dress.

Continued in Next Post

I Score a Top Secret Souvenir Part 2

Elena was very nice and we ended up talking about cupcakes and chocolate, I think I might have mentioned eating at BOG that day.

The FP got me in and out pretty quickly so I decided to catch a few shows next. First up was Mickey’s Philharmagic where I took a grand total of one picture. I do love this Hidden Mickey.

Next up was my County Bears where I took quite a few pictures.

Big Al!

I didn’t get the best shot of Big Al this time, should have zoomed in more.

It was finally time for my Buzz Lightyear FP so I made my way back to Tomorrowland and got in the FP line. Once we merged with the Standby line, there was a family right behind me with a double wide stroller with two boys in it. I was surprised because I didn’t think that strollers were allowed in the line. As we rounded the bend by Buzz, the dad took one of the boys out and let him pee behind the garbage can. I was kind of in shock when I saw that. I had read stories about people seeing that but I had never actually experienced it myself.

I ended up with a pretty awesome score this time but still fell short of Galactic Hero.

I think we must have stopped in the last room where there are no targets and I snapped a few pictures.

And my ride photo. I always look so fierce in the Buzz photos. LOL.

When I got off the ride, I stopped at the desk and let a CM know about the boy peeing. He apologized profusely that I had had to see that and said he would send someone to clean it up right away.

I headed immediately across the way to use my second FP which was for Space Mountain.

When I got done with SM, I still had a lot of time until my 3rd FP so I started looking around for something else to do. Peoplemover was the obvious choice but unfortunately it was down at the moment. I wasn’t too sad since I’d already ridden it twice that trip. Instead I found a bench to sit and people watch for a while. The Peoplemover did eventually open back up but the line was massive and I was comfortable where I was, off of my feet for a bit. I ended up sitting there for about a ½ hour before getting up and heading towards my next FP destination.

Up Next: A Plethora of Fast Passes

Oh man so sorry to hear about Eddie. It is never easy to lose a pet, 16 years is a good life for a dog. Our last dog only lived 10 and it was without any warnings.

Yay on the ADRs! The only one I didn't get was also the RoL dining package but I booked a placeholder for that right now.

Great visit with Big Al! I love that bear.

That is a great score and ride photo despite not being galactic hero. I always try so hard but never can get galactic hero.

I'm so sorry about your little guy, I know how hard it is to lose a furbaby. My kitty (In my avatar) had to be put down back in 2014 at age 16 and I still miss him.

Nice update, Great score on the Rose cup! Love BOG, I have only been there for dinner, but I would like to try breakfast and lunch too. That Rose Gallery is a pretty room, I love that music box/statue.

I'm so sorry to hear about Eddie :( Hugs to you.

Glad you were able to get all your ADRs! I'm sure the ROL package will open eventually, I know the packages for that are released so slowly.

So cool that you were able to watch 2 different kinds of entertainment while waiting for Stitch!

Sounds like you were getting a lot done between FPs and standby lines!

I've been enjoying your trip report! I just read it all the way through.

I can't believe you threw a squirrel! :scared1:

Your TR is the first I've read about the Easter egg hunt in Epcot. That sounds like something I'd enjoy doing.

So sorry to hear about all the dog health problems and the loss of Eddie. :sad1: I have two dogs. Neither are schnauzers. :rotfl:The prior neighbors had a schnauzer. I referred to him as The Grouchy Schnauzer because he was always coming up to our fence and grumbling and carrying on. They moved and the new neighbors have a pit bull who likes to instigate barking fests. :sad2:

My next two Disney trips are solo, and I'm getting more excited after I read solo trip reports. It's not my first solo trip and will likely not be the last, either!

I was going to highly suggest to you to sign up for the Disney Virtual Shorts series since you are doing the 5k in January and you are a huge Pluto fan, but judging from your shirt, you are already signed up!

I'm so sorry about Eddie

My next trip is fast approaching and my ADR day is one week from today!
If you hadn't said this I wouldn't have thought of it... We mean to go back at the end of January and I wouldn't have thought about ADR day until well into our window, because I'm focused on our big trip this September.

This lead to six weeks in a cast with crate confinement which lead to many nights of this sad face.
These are so hard, because you can't explain why you're doing this.

I love photos like these :)

What is wrong with people? Jeesh.

Enjoying following along. I love the secret rose cup handoff  And what FP luck!

I'm thinking about doing the Express transportation this Fall, if it's still a thing. I need to double check pricing and add it to the budget.

You're there in January too? We must do a meet up!
YES!!! I'm not entirely sure of our dates yet, but I'm thinking there's probably a 95% chance of an overlap. I'll keep you posted! :thumbsup2

First up, we had to say goodbye to my sweet Eddie this weekend. :sad1:
I am so incredibly sorry  Pets are dear, sweet members of our family and their loss is felt very deeply. Sending hugs.

On a lighter note, I did our ADRs for January
Wooho!!!

I finished with my best time yet, 41:03.
Go you!!! :thumbsup2

He was quite smitten and tried to leave with me. I was perfectly willing to take him home with me but the CM wouldn’t let him go.
Very unreasonable CM by the sounds of it ;)

I stopped along the way to take some pictures of the castle in one of my favorite spots.
Yes!!! This is my favorite spot, too :goodvibes

Then I turned right around and went back to Fantasyland to use my paper FP at Princess Fairytale Hall to meet Cinderella and Elena.
Excellent use of your paper FP! Although I can't say I know who Elena is either :confused3 I'm not very "with it" for newish Disney characters though :sad2:

When I got off the ride, I stopped at the desk and let a CM know about the boy peeing.
I cannot believe this happened! I'm just baffled. :sad2:

Instead I found a bench to sit and people watch for a while.
One of my favorite ways to relax at Disney :thumbsup2

I'm so sorry to hear about Eddie. :worried:

It comes across in your TRs how much you love your doggies. He was lucky to have you.
