DIS Dads Brag Wall

Just a little proud bragging.

DS pitched a complete 7 inning game for his AAU team today, winning 8-1 for the teams first win of the season. This was his first start for this team and he went the distance. Stat line ---- 7 IP, 1ER, 3K, 1BB. The team is now 1-16. I hope he finally gets to pitch more. This is one proud dad tonight.:cool1::cool1:

Congrats to your DS. That is a very good stat line.

DS took first place in his age and class for his speech at the State Fair. The overall scores are weighted 60 percent speech and 40 percent for the country ham. Unfortunately he only got a red ribbon on his ham so he didn't place in the top five overall. If he had to do better on the speech, which reflects his effort, or the ham, which is mostly luck of the draw, I'm happy with how it turned out.

Nice job by your son! Did you get the ham back?

Congratulations to your son! Did you eat the hame to celebrate?

Congrats to your son. You are right, the speech part is more important. I will also add my voice to the question, "What happened to the ham?"

Thanks guys! We got the ham back. Usually we wait and cook it up for Thanksgiving to go with the turkey but we will probably cook it early this year.

The majority of the ham score is how it smells so if his was only smelling "red ribbon worthy" I am concerned about bone sour developing. We have done this 3 years now and I had not seen any hams have to forfeit in '12 or '11. This year, in two age classes alone, I saw 6 hams get eliminated because they didn't cure well and were rotting. The state meat specialist said it was weather related. We have had one of the wettest and coolest summers on record in our part of the state and that had an impact I'm sure. This is a huge project. There were over 700 kids competing yesterday which means probably about 800 started the project back in January.

One of the kids in our county placed fifth for his ham so it wasn't all bad news for the hams themselves but not a good memorable year either.

Great stuff and congrats to your son as most find it difficult to get in front of others and deliver a speech :thumbsup2

Cleaning guns? I would think that field dressing a buck would strike fear in their, uhh, hearts.

:scratchin Hmmm...time to get DD into deer hunting. Think 6 is too young?

 princess:

My 9 year old princess wants to get into the 4-H shooting sports program but we don't have one in the region. The sooner they learn proper respect and operation of firearms the better.

My ds6 and dd8 were in the school talent show this past Tuesday. They performed a HeeHaw skit in which they sang "gloom, despair, and agony on me" and "Where oh where...". Several parents and teachers told us they had the best act that night, and were even amazed that they knew about Hee Haw.

They must get their talent from DW because I would had been a nervous wreck in front of a crowd like that when I was their ages.
