Ugghh?? Really? Those were the itchiest bites I've ever had.

Are fire ants a problem in the evening watching Wishes from the Poly beach?
Are the fire works common a certain time of year similar to the lovebugs that people refer to in May? TIA!

We watched the fireworks from the beach twice last week and didn't have an issue. I did get a mosquito bite during MNSSHP and that was a first for me at disney.

Fire ants are ubiquitous in the Southeast and I learned all about them when I moved to Charleston, SC. They are incredibly irritating and itchy, are vesicular in nature (2-3 blisters in a row) and some people can be allergic. Unfortunately, compared to mosquito bites they are more irritating and can last for 7-10 days.

Look for small mounds of sand scattered around and small red ants. They are summer creatures and will hibernate in the cold. If you go to the beach don't sit on the sand.

Love bugs are harmless and don't bite, and usually come out early spring and fall.

We watched Wishes from directly on the beach once, mostly from path or pool. Fortunately didn't get bitten. I ran into a woman who had. I've had experience getting multiple bites while standing on a beach path in N. Miami beach. They're nasty. My foot and ankle swelled so much I could only wear flip flops. Lived on Benadryl.

......so the stream from GCH to the pool area is now gone??? That makes me sad, we used to always have to stop and spend a few minutes there (and watch the ducks). On our stay there in '13 one of the girls actuallystopped and took photos of the baby ducks!

Oh, the ducks are there! We watched them often on the grounds. Don't know what it used to look like, because last month was our first time at the Poly, but the ducks were there!

Those construction views would have been very disappointing to me, too. Even if you've booked a garden or theme park room, couldn't you ask to be switched to Fiji marina view? I'll post pics when I'm home, but our view is incredible. Think I already said it but I can't believe this is a standard view! It's so, so pretty.

We're considering this longhouse for next August. Nice to hear you say how lovely the view is. That's exactly what I'm looking forward to!

Youngest DS had a mold allergy when he was younger combined with asthma, not a good combo. My sisters basement was a bit "moldy" and he begged to go down there occasionally to play ping pong. Sure enough, he would be down there 5 minutes and he started coughing...Had to "pull him" right back upstairs, much to his disappointment! Mold is VERY UNHEALTHY and hopefully that room will be repaired and "de molded"!

Aren't all of the rooms at the Poly recently renovated? I too am allergic to mold and Aetearoa is one of the longhouses I was considering requesting.

I am really torn between requesting Aotearoa or Rarotonga for our end of October trip. Online check in is available now that I'm passed 60 days out but I haven't done it yet b/c I don't want to request something and change my mind. I see a lot of pics of there being work done on the outside of the long houses. I know I have seen pics of Hawaii, Samoa, Figi, Tuvalu and I think Tonga having been worked on, so I think those are mostly completed. Which makes me concerned that Rarotonga and Aotearoa are still coming up. I think we will use the boat to MK a few times and Aotearoa looks closer to that but we will also be walking to the TTC at least 2 times to go to EP. I also don't want to risk requesting Rarotonga and get put on the side facing the east pool construction. Any thoughts? Also, can I just do online check in like a few days before or a week before once it's closer to the date so I can see what construction is going on at that time? Or is there any reason to do it this far out? I can't imagine they assign a room more than a few days out anyways. I am also using the touringplans room fax option which I think gets sent in 5 days before. Any opinions appreciated.

Online check is fine at 5 days out. I totally get what you're saying. I had touring plans send my fax and got the room next door to the room I requested! So no rush. I'd wait, if you are hesitant, and do the online check in later.

We loved our stay at the Poly and I am starting to put together our photo book and realized that the only resort photos I have are from a kind of gloomy day...any chance anyone is willing to e-mail me generic but good resolution pics of the poly sign, the long houses, the lobby, and the pool. I cant believe I did think about that page fro our book while we were down there. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help !

Total Poly newbie here! With a great deal, looking at a possible trip for next August. Even though I'm pretty well versed in most things Disney, never thought we'd be able to stay Deluxe so never paid much attention to the resorts! I have a couple very basic, what may seem weird, questions...

* The 'daybed' or whatever it's called. How big is it? Is it possible for a young teen to sleep there? I've got 2 DSs who will be 16 and 14 next year. Sharing beds is getting to be out of the question. Will this work for the younger?

* Bathrooms. Our last few trips have been POFQ and we love the double sinks and the fact that the toilet/shower are behind one door, then you have the sinks with a curtain to pull to create a second private area. This helps immensely when four of us are trying to get ready in the mornings! It seems that the standard Poly rooms have everything in one bathroom area. Is that correct? No separation at all? And are there even two sinks in all the rooms?

See, weird, but little details I'm curious about!

We stayed in a studio in August and it had a day bed. My 12 yr old daughter slept on it, but because my 17 yr old wanted it, I'd say yes to your 14 yr old. As for your bathroom questions, can't comment there. We had 2 to share in the studio, which was wonderful!

We did BC in 2013 and Poly this August. I am thinking we will head back to the Beach. We will be going with my brother and his family who have never stayed at either, but stay twice per year at OKW

The rooms at the Poly were actually not done that long ago. I think it was spring/summer 2013. The wear and tear on the furniture is likely because of the popularity/busy nature of the resort (high volume of guests coming through) No excuse for dust though!

But they never changed the dresser when they renovated. I don't think. Seems to be the same as our pre Reno stay. Aside from the worn out plugs on top, ours was ok. I didn't mind having same dresser, because all the refurbed rooms we've had that replaced them, they replaced them with units with shallow, small drawers, like GF.

The old version of the pork tacos was better.

The curry meatballs are good as well

hmmm, maybe I got a bad order of fish tacos? Teeny tiny peices of fish, and barely a sprinkle of slaw on them. I thought slaw was a weird thing to cheap out on since it's so inexpensive. I was very disappointed in it. Just 2 mostly empty tortillas.

We stayed in a studio in August and it had a day bed. My 12 yr old daughter slept on it, but because my 17 yr old wanted it, I'd say yes to your 14 yr old. As for your bathroom questions, can't comment there. We had 2 to share in the studio, which was wonderful!

How big is the sofa bed in the studios in comparison to a queen size bed? Would two adults fit comfortably in them?

We wanted to try both so we did a Poly/BC split stay and loved it.

Can't comment on the Poly sofabed since we haven't stayed yet, but stayed at VGF studio, DH and I and yes it appears that two adults fit comfortably.
