Thought it might make sense to consolidate information about DVC resort refurbs. I'll do my best to stay on top of the latest news, announcements, credible rumors, and apparent inventory disruptions that might be usable indicators of refurbishment and compile them here.

I wonder why they are holding off on AKL when everyone else that got their last refurb in 2016 has already started or at least been announced. And it seems a little unfair that the cabins at CC jump ahead when they were built later then the last refurb for AKV?
Hah, don’t get me started on VGF and Poly jumping ahead of BRV, which was in far worse shape than either of them. And the BRV delay caused a domino effect on the BCV and BWV refurbs. DVC doesn’t think in terms of being “fair.”
 
I just want to see VGC on an official schedule. I know it won't be complete before our next visit...but hopefully by the one after that (late 2025.)
 
I’m betting more of the refurb schedule than one might imagine is based on a ratio of needed changes to money in the refurbishment account for a given resort. Disney isn’t looking to front any money. If the reserve account can fund the necessary refurbishment, it gets on the schedule. If not, it waits.

I think there's also a cost/benefit analysis in terms of available inventory and they might prioritize completing the refurbishments that can be done on a shorter timeline versus one that requires closing a lot of rooms for a longer period.

Thank you for the tracker. We are at Kidani now and it really needs a hard foods refurb. The 1bd sleeper sofa my kids are in looks like it is about to fall apart. My kids say it is a rough sleep. Luckily we are moving tomorrow.

I’m curious if CCV gets the Murphy beds. Above the sofas is a soffit that lowers the ceiling to a point maybe they won’t fit.

I’m guessing that’s why Aulani didn’t get them. And Copper Creek is smaller.

I’m curious what was started first Aulani or PVB? I could see reasons for Aulani not to get them given it’s rather large on an island that needs everything shipped it. Which adds a lot to the cost.

I haven’t been to Aulani yet, but the height of a ceiling I can imagine is the only limiting factor given a sofa bed as roughly the same footprint. Is the ceiling super low there? I mean PVB is pretty low and got them. At CCV the room can support it from a width and depth perspective 100% it’s just the ceiling height because of the soffit, which could be removed but I’m doubting that for a soft goods refurb… or perhaps that ceiling height is tall enough I should have measured.

I think Aulani was first, but just barely. Aulani was definitely after Saratoga, which started the Murphy Bed addition process (during a hard goods refurb, of course).

Aulani does have potential fit issues for Murphy Beds: soffits in the 1BR living rooms and angled walls in the Studios. I don't know if either are actually an issue, though.

But my pet theory for why Aulani didn't get the Murphy Beds is because of how much is unsold, and therefore still owned by Disney, and how they'd have to foot the bill for a lot of the refurb (especially with the additional shipping expense, as you call out).

The ceilings are fine. But the Aulani has a bulkhead that they were never going to modify during a soft goods update.

Just watched Kyle Pallo's Youtube video on BWV. He scored a newly renovated studio. A bit too yellow for my taste but all in all I think it looks really nice. Like most renovations lately it's not highly themed. Disney is going for simplistic, but I am OK with it. With AKL coming soon I hope they don't dumb down the theme so much that it loses that African charm. That would be a sad.
