While I am sure the athletes are talented, it still reminds me of 'kick ball' we used to play in grade school. No interest in watching the pro version. Always lots of sports on TV, so it is a matter of which ones someone finds appealing. I enjoy some forms of auto racing, but F1 seems like the teams with the most $$$ have the fastest cars and win all of the races. Watching that version of racing where they just seem to drive around single file is boring to me. Changing the playoff format isn't going to make it any more interesting to watch.
I’m curious if you have watched the WC before? Not judging, just wondering if you have watched a game before. Enjoy your weekend. :-)

I'm at a 4 because it's still a ways off and also because I hate this winter WC thing...and I hate the way Qatar has gone about this.

I do suspect, however, that the USMNT may surprise some people. If they come out and look halfway decent, I'll be at a ten within seconds of their first goal.

This is our golden generation. I think we will win our first two games.

Not attached at all heritage-wise. My son lives in Argentina and he was an exchange student there prior to moving back this year. My husband exchanged to Denmark years ago and we all went there in 2016, so there’s that connection. And on the way back from that trip we stopped over in Iceland for a few days. That was during Iceland’s *amazing* run-up to the Euro 2016, so we were hooked. We actually root for all the Scandinavian teams when they play. I really wish we didn’t have to wait until November this time around!

I'm not especially excited, but I'll pay some attention to it when it happens. I'll be rooting for the US, because I'm from here, and New Zealand if they qualify - because they're ranked 101st, and I love I good underdog story.

Just an FYI. Here is their website:
https://www.nzfootball.co.nz/
And an article on the team:

If there is a way to track the WC berth game when it starts, I’ll post it for you.:-)

NZ plays Costa Rica on June 14th at 2pm ET for the right to go to the WC. I think the game will be on ESPN +, but I’m not sure yet.
Update, the game will be on Telemundo (a common tv channel, just search your channel guide). It maybe on a fox channel but I’m not sure yet.

Your feelings on the sport?:

Update, Wales qualified today and will be the USMNT opening match on November 21 at 2pm ET on FOX.

Too Euro-centric if Wales has its own team. They don’t at the Olympics.

That’s like a separate Florida qualifying in addition to the US team.

The football federations of the UK were the first to be created. Wales is its own country. The FAs predate the modern Olympics. Welsh and English people see themselves as a separate people that are in a unified system.

In reality, only Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland view themselves as separate countries. Most of the rest of the world recognizes them as part of one country, the UK.

Then again, The Olympics consider Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands as their own separate teams apart from the US, so there are several sporting disparities.

But if we beat England and Wales in our first 2 games, we could knock out the UK by game 3 potentially.
