Getting the Tokyo Disney Monorail Pin?

I understand you have to trade in 3 expired monorail passes to get the pin...

If you're staying at a Disney resort, I also understand you can ride the monorail for free. Do you get given a pass for this, or do you show your room key or something else instead?

What I was wondering is, could I get the pin by trading in our 2 x expired monorail passes (assuming we are still given one each when staying on site), and buying 1 x one day pass that we don't really need?
 
Ah okay - so I'd need to buy 3 separate one day passes anyway, I couldn't even use 1 of our multi day passes becauses the dates would overlap all of the one days...

Thanks for the link, I'd seen that article, but managed to block out the date thing in my head!!
 
What a shame Hubby and I will be there for five days but obviously won't be able to get the pin.
