Getting the Tokyo Disney Monorail Pin?

I understand you have to trade in 3 expired monorail passes to get the pin...

If you're staying at a Disney resort, I also understand you can ride the monorail for free. Do you get given a pass for this, or do you show your room key or something else instead?

What I was wondering is, could I get the pin by trading in our 2 x expired monorail passes (assuming we are still given one each when staying on site), and buying 1 x one day pass that we don't really need?

You're given a pass that has the valid dates on it. Your plan won't work because the dates on the passes need to be different. I thought about doing something similar, but then read the rules more closely.

Ah okay - so I'd need to buy 3 separate one day passes anyway, I couldn't even use 1 of our multi day passes becauses the dates would overlap all of the one days...

What a shame Hubby and I will be there for five days but obviously won't be able to get the pin.
