Hey Team!

Hope you are busy preparing for Halloween. I am a bit early starting this thread, but that's okay....right? :rolleyes1

I was thinking (always a dangerous activity for me) that we might want to do a team Turkey Trot. Whacha think? All we need is some rules and a turkey for our signatures!puckerup:

Rules (suggestions, really pirate:)

1. The race can be done anytime over the Thanksgiving Holiday.:flower3:
2. We will officially do a 5K, if you do more, we will all be suitably impressed!::yes::
3. You should post that you did it and give a race report. (Mine will probably say: saw a herd of cows!) :thumbsup2
4. You can do it in conjunction with an official race (as long the race officials let you in the official race!):upsidedow
5. Extra points if you get any family members to do it with you, especially if they don't belong to Hakuna Matata. :littleangel:

Team Bios

Steffwalks, aka Connie - Captain. I am 53 years old, married with Two children and 5 Grandchildren living in the panhandle of Texas. First race at 49 years and 9 months and it was a trail race, just about killed me!! I am working on weight loss and P90X. I prefer the half marathon as a walker. My most recent hobby, mule rider!

Funwalker, aka Margie - Official Record Keeper of HK. walker. widow; I live in Portage MI
Did my 1st race when I turned 60, Full Marathon at the 2005 Columbus Marathon. I prefer Half Marathons for training and distance.

Windwalker, aka Dave and/or Panda - I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually and I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Sally and I will be married this week.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn - I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare"time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away,so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

Motomiker, aka Mike - I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois and have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Rober). Working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan. and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

LynnG, aka Lynn - (of Lynn and Scott), 59 years old, retired We are both Disneyholics – we have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but since knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva - I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

MaryJ aka Mary I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

GirltheGecko aka Hope. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

es45 aka Elizabeth: I'm 41 and married with 2 children, DD9 and DD6. I'll run my first 5k in July and walking with my best friend in the 2011 Princess Half. If I'm ready, I plan to run my first half marathon in late October.

piglet24, aka Regina I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. There has been a great deal of stress in my life recently that I do not have the ability to change right now, so I decided to try running to help manage the stress and give myself goals to work toward and focus on. Right now I’m working toward my first half marathon in October (Wine and Dine).

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k. Thanks!

Verticalchaos
, aka Beth: I'm 39 and live in NYC. I teach students with autism. I'm a fairly new runner - started with the Couch to 5K program at te end of June. So far I've run 2 5Ks and a 10K - and I'm training for the WDW Half in January and the DL Half in September. And I may throw another Half in there somewhere. I've been actively working on losing weight since May and am down 19 pounds and at my lowest weight in over 10 years. No kids...just one very bratty and noisy Quaker Parrot named Benjamin Coffin the Bird (Benny for short).

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon!

Saylan - I'm from the frosty north of Canada and I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times) and I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

I'm already in a real Turkey Trot, so I'll be counting it. 5M here! Woohoo! My parents will be coming into town that afternoon, so I'll get a race report in as soon as I can.

Oh, I'm also doing Buzz and Woody's Best Friends 5K on January 7. With my sister! Don't worry...we'll be walking it.

Hey team!!

I'd love to do a turkey trot!!! (What do you say Margie?)

Just to officially update my profile here is some info on me

My birthday is March 19

Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon!

Thanks Margie and Connie for everything you do for the team!!! We appreciate you!!! :yay::yay:

Good evening!

I can't believe how many of you already found this new thread!

Nikki - Hi! good to be back! Glad to have you aboard. I fixed your BIO! As far as I am concerned you are officially a member! :goodvibes

Margie - great turkey sign!

Everyone should feel free to participate in our team turkey trot as well as the virtual one!

I am still catching up on back posts!

See ya -Connie

Even I found it, we are in for the TT, as we are doing the space coast, we got out for a nice bike ride today.

Good morning guys.

Connie I need to update my Bio, I have qualified for the nationals and I'll be married on Nov 3rd.

Sally and I will be doing a Turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning and then eating a meal with our race walking buds.

Thank you all for being here for me this year, as those of you who have known me for a while know it was a difficult year, but I tried to stay positive and look to the future instead of dwelling on the past. Sally has heard a lot about you guys and hopes to meet all of you some day. We will be planning trips to see a lot of you and maybe do a race together somewhere and we will be a home away from home for any that want to stop by.

Dave:hippie:

Can't believe it is November already!!!! Time is flying by!!

I started out the month right with a nice run/walk. My training today called for a 30 minute easy run. Well, I'm not up to running a straight 30 minutes yet so I ran as much as I could without killing myself and then walked in between! I felt great and the running was not as hard as I thought it was going to be!

The main problem I am having is figuring out when I'm going to get in my workouts! I'm so used to getting up, working out, doing a little houe work and then going to work! I need to mix it up due to lack of sunlight. Next time I'm going to try getting up, getting house work done and lunch packed and THEN going for my walk. I think it would be a better use of my time! Trial and error is the name of the game!

Here was my workout today.
Time 31 minutes
Distance 2 miles
Calories burned 288
Best pace 10:59
Average pace 15.04
Map Player

Days left until Half Marathon: 68!!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful November!!!!

Good Morning Team!

Connie – glad you got your new computer up and running!

Elizabeth – Hope the costumes went over well!
Nikki – Malamutes are very rewarding companions, but you do need to be aware of their shortcomings! Sierra Trading Post is my favorite store, and now I live where there is one! Scott was sure I would spend all my money there when we moved to Cheyenne! I understand next Monday is the end of Daylight Savings – that will give you more morning daylight (for a little while anyway).

Dave – Congrats to you on your wedding plans! So, what you are saying Dave, is that you have the room for guests if they are willing to sleep in sleeping bags on the floor – right? I also cannot believe that it is November already!

Margie – Your birthday calendar is off for my age – I will be 60 this Dec, not 58. You could also add my name to the SierraTradingPost.com list (although I now can shop in the store and not depend on the internet), I am also a fan of RunningWarehouse.com.

Beth – Congrats fitting into a medium shirt!

AFM – Good weekend, we got for a 12 mile bike ride on Saturday, and yesterday we walked the dogs around the block (1.25 miles) then later did an 8 mile bike ride – we were planning on longer, but the wind was stronger than we counted on, it was on the cool side, and the clouds were threatening, so we cut the ride short – cannot have the new bikes rained on! Of course, it never rained, but we played it safe. No trick or treaters at our house – so I sent all the left over candy with Scott to work this morning! Now that it is out of the house, I will try again to lose a few pounds!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hi team! Happy Monday! Did everyone eat lots of candy yesterday? I made it through with 4 small bags of gummy bears and a handful of mini Rollos. Not too bad ... now I just have to make it through the day without going to the grocery store and stocking up on discounted leftovers  Although, I might get some Smarties or Reese Pieces because I use those for baking.

Went for a 5K run yesterday - a really slow 5K run and it wasn't too bad. I tried sticking to ashphalt as much as possible but couldn't do it for the entire route. I did notice a difference on my knees when running on the sidewalk vs. the road. I'm not sure how this will work for any distance past 6 miles because I have to put sidewalks into my route. I do wonder if it's the new shoes I have. I believe the pain showed up after I did a LR in my new 760s. I have one pair left of my 769 and so I'm going to break those in for shorter runs so that I'll be back running on two pairs of 769s.

Went to a yoga class on Saturday morning. I *almost* didn't make it because there was a slight mix up with cars. But I made it to the 10AM class with 15 minutes to spare. I got there at the same time as someone else who was new to the class. She was a runner too so she was there for the same reason as I was - just to keep things loose and stretched out. Some of the poses were quite challenging so I just did modifications of some of them. It wasn't quite the workout I thought it would be but I'm going back next week because I can see how tight my body is overall.

Nikki - I know what you mean about fitting in the workouts. I usually do my gym and weight stuff after work. Running I try to get in mornings before work. Do you have time in between classes or anything like that?

Dave - What a year huh? I feel the same way too. I can't believe it's November already either! How many days until Disney? I'm looking forward to meeting Sally as well :)

Connie - When is US Thanksgiving? I'm in for a Turkey Trot :)

Margie - Fantastic logo! You're really talented! How are the boys doing today? Anybody have the flu? Can you add http://www.lululemon.com to the shopping list? They have some great looking gear! And they have a outlet in Orlando!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Morning everyone!

Interval run/walk today. 45 minutes. I'm going to be rushing like mad because my Disney Movie Club introductory shipment is at the post office and I need to pick it up (always an adventure at this post office), get home, get my run done, and get some food in me before I go to writing class. I may just have to be late to class. Oh well. We'll see what happens.

Also, my throat is starting to feel icky. I'm hoping it's just that I slept with my mouth open last night and not something worse. I can't afford to get sick right now!!

Vicky ~ Thanksgiving here in the US is Thursday the 25th this year. It's always the fourth Thursday of November. :) And yay for yoga! Don't worry about having to modify the poses. Most people do. It's called the "practice" of yoga for a reason! It's definitely one of my favorite things to do.

Nikki ~ See my crazycakes schedule above. LOL. I totally understand.

Lynn ~ Glad you had a good bike ride! I didn't even bother buying candy. Another BIG advantage to living in NYC is that unless you're in a co-op or something, there really isn't door-to-door trick or treating. (Thank goodness!!) There is usually something in the parks, and then certain areas of town will have all the shops have candy. Much easier on my pocketbook AND my stomach!

Dave ~ Yay for new beginnings!!! I always get so annoyed at all the fuss about the new year on January 1 because I'm a firm believer in every day starting a new year and every day I resolve to do better. So HAPPY NEW YEAR! :goodvibes

Hugs and pixie dust to all!!

~beth

Lynn - WTG on all the bike mileage! 20 miles is really impressive! We only had a small handful of kids come by our house. We live in a neighbourhood without too many kids but I've heard some stories at work today of some neighbourhoods that have 100+ kids! Yikes! That's a lot of candy!

~beth

Beth - What movie(s) did you get from the Disney movie club? I keep wondering whether I should join... and I have to say that I like your way of thinking. It is kind of silly to wait for one specific day to make life changes. Why not start now?

Good Morning Team!

Dave, Congrats! to you & Sally.

Nikki, Welcome to the team!

Beth, Nice work on your training!

Vicky, I forgot about the Whitby races. I will be passing on that one. Did you decide?
Saw your post about tights. I'm a cwx tight lover. I have 3 pair - shorts - capris - full insulated. My 1st pair were the capris. I bought them at this year's expo. I went against the no.1 rule of running "don't try anything new on race day" & wore them for both the 1/2 & full. Not cheap here though. I paid $70us & they sell here for about $125. I got the other 2 pr at Running Free in Markham. I don't wear them for every run, races & the weekend long runs. They are tight!

AFM, I was away last week for work. Long days. It was nice to get home.

Had a ok race in Niagara Falls the other weekend. Lucked out with the weather & only had a little rain miles 8 through 12. The road was a little rough miles 22 through 25. Had to be very careful you didn't turn an ankle. Getting to the start was long & it didn't need to be. Buses left the Cdn side at 7 & we didn't get to Buffalo until after 9 with a race start at 10. Travel time should have only been 45mins not 2+ hrs. The organizers had a rule that all buses had to stay together. We pulled over to the side of the road & waited....waited.....waited. Everyone on the bus was getting anxious. It just left everyone rushing to do bag drop/ pee break etc. before the start.
DH did the 1/2 & had a pb so all in all it was a great day.

Have a great day everyone. Sounds like everyone is getting in some great training.........Sue

Vicky ~ For my introductory shipment and first selection, I got:

Earth
Wall-E
Brother Bear
Enchanted
Ratatouille

I know, I know. But I went through a while where I wasn't buying DVDs, so I missed out on a lot of them. Looking forward to building my collection!!
