Have you ever put something on top of your car then driven off forgetting about it?

Cell phone.
I drove two miles back home. I decided to retrace the ride and found it right away just a couple hundred feet from my house on the side of the road. Lucky! Only a cracked screen protector.

I haven't driven off. I did put the puppy's bag of food on the roof while I got the dogs out of the car at daycare once and then completely forget to bring it inside. I saw it when I came back out, though, and went back in to drop it off.

I lost my favorite cell phone that way. I try to always put my phone IN the car before I do anything else.

My gas cap, while traveling cross country in 1982.
No, I never found it as I'd driven too far to retrace my path.
I couldn't buy a new one until I found a town w/a store open.
I had to leave my car outside the motel that night w/the
opening exposed, but no one did anything nefarious (I don't think).

I witnessed a coffee on the roof event. 😄. It was almost cliche to see that mug flying through the air and shattering on the pavement in a trail of coffee. I was amused as all heck till I realized I now had a minefield of shattered ceramic in front of my car. (It was a big mug). Thankfully I could switch lanes and avoid getting a tire puncture.

I placed a plastic cup of arcade tokens on top of my car once, to buckle in my kid. Drove about 30 miles, including on a highway. Coins and cup were still there when I parked 😂

Pretty sure I have many times. Maybe sometimes the trunk. I know I did it with a bicycle helmet once.

I remember once I got back from lunch and was in my cube when my manager came up to me and said that I forgot a drink cup on my roof.

However, once I was driving my parents' car when they were on vacation. I was kind of far away and didn't say anything, but some idiot decided that the place to put the watermelon he bought was on the roof of my parents' car while he reached for his keys.

I somehow managed to drive about 25-30 minutes, up and down hills, with my Kindle on the roof of my Ford Escort wagon. This was just the Kindle itself, no case or protection of any kind so if it had fallen it would have been destroyed! That is the reason I will never win the lottery, I used up all my luck that day.

DH did, he placed his travel mug full of coffee on the roof of the car while he put his laptop bag in the backseat and drove down the street. Someone stopped next to him at the stoplight pointed it out to him. So surprised it hadn’t fallen off, lol.

I never have and I never will because I have never put anything on top of my car and I will never start to, when driving.

Only thing I've put on top of my car is a bottle of wax or towels when I am polishing and waxing the car. I'm not driving and put the stuff away when I'm done prior to moving on to driving it.

A skull which we had borrowed from a museum for my son to study and sketch. They were very understanding fortunately as it smashed to smithereens

Never. I always check for cats too, sometimes they like to lay on the roof or hood. Let this video be a cautionary advisory:
