Hijinks & Shenanigans but not much Mayhem@The Dark Side+Disney:Link to DL/Hawaii TR

Aloha all. Just spent our first full day in Hawaii. We were at pearl harbor from 7:30 until after 2. The Arizona memorial is so impressive. The bowfin submarine was interesting especially since my dad was an engineer who worked on subs so I have always had that connection. The mighty Missouri battleship was incredible. And the boys loved the aviation museum. Today we will hike diamond head at 7 am. sorry I don't have many pictures on my phone to post here.

Ahem... hey Dee.... If you see any of these guys do me a favor and lay low. They are probably trying to question you to see if you know of my whereabouts.

Remember... you don't know nuttin!

I didn't know the orange was in my briefcase when I was getting on the plane... Honest!! I think I was being set up.

Your trip sounds great so far. Are you going to try to do any, snorkeling, surfing or boogie boarding? That was the favorite thing for our teens to do. :goodvibes

Sounds like a great first day, D.

Enjoy and you can show us all your pictures when you return.

bookem dano! Lets just say that comment hits a little too close to home as we had to present ourselves to agricultural inspection when we entered Hawaii thanks to our stay at the grand ca and the kindness of a did stranger

Diamond head was great this morning. Started the climb around 7:00. Im taking a break on the balcony while the guys are exploring the us army museum. The boys love military stuff.

Hopefully Nate and maybe I will take a surf lesson this afternoon. We are snokeling tomorrow at hunuama bay. Maybe we will eat at dukes for our 28th anniversary tomorrow night.

then on to Maui on Sunday. are you guys hearing anything about a tropical storm here?

There are fireworks here at the resort tonight.

Check in later.

Wali is no longer a tropical storm, but remains a threat that may bring thunderstorms and up to a foot of rain in some areas this weekend, forecasters said.

The storm was about 765 miles east southeast of Hilo and 980 miles away from Honolulu at 11 a.m. on Friday, moving northwest at 13 mph.

Forecasters downgraded Wali to a tropical depression at 11 a.m. Sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. The rain clouds associated with Wali extend about 600 miles from the center, and rain remains the main threat from the storm, forecasters said.

The winds from the storm are expected to weaken even more by the time the storm reaches the islands. But what's left of Wali, likely a mass of humid weather and rain clouds, will still bring widespread heavy rains and the potential for flooding when its outer bands reach the Big Island on Saturday and the rest of the islands by Sunday.

"Widespread rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches are expected with up to 12 inches locally," forecasters said.

Another weather system in the upper atmosphere about 280 miles north of Oahu, is also moving toward the state and the combined effects of both systems will add instability to the weather around Hawaii this weekend.

"The winds are coming from opposite directions, so that's going to sort of rip the storm apart," said Matthew Foster, a meteorologist in the Honolulu office of the National Weather Service. But the interaction of the two systems over Hawaii will also increase the chance of heavy rain over the islands.

Wali's remnants will likely linger until Tuesday, increasing the potential for flooding.

A flash-flood watch is in effect for Hawaii from Saturday night through Monday.

"The main risk for flooding Saturday night is for the windward Big Island and Maui, and for all islands Sunday and Monday," forecasters said in a weather advisory.

Residents will first notice Wali's approach Saturday as the humidity increases. The storm is also likely to cut off the cooling northeast tradewinds and bring muggy southeast Kona winds.

Foster said the rains will be widespread, but are most likely to fall in windward areas and southeastern slopes.

"It'll be pretty persistent," he said.

The forecast for Honolulu and southern shores of Oahu calls for a 70 percent chance of rain on Sunday and Monday and a 50 percent chance of rain Saturday night and Tuesday.

Until the humidity and rain from Wali arrives on Saturday evening, forecasters expect typical tradewind weather on Friday, windward and mauka showers Saturday morning and mostly sunny to partly cloudy weather with isolated showers elsewhere.:

Good Luck! Sounds like you are having a blast!

Thanks so much for taking the time to post the weather report for me. We fly on Sunday which sounds like the worst day. Hopefully things will be clear on Tuesday for molokini snorkels

Happy you had a great time at DiamondHead...271 steps!! But what a view huh! Yay for Molokini snorkeling. I bet the weather will be fine. We loved it! We stayed in the Wailea area so it was pretty close to us. I sent you a Facebook message right before you left too (I know a bit late!).

Enjoying the updates Dee,
Kerry

having a great anniversary day so far. Latest start in a week. 10 am snorkel at hunauma bay. One of our favorite snorkel spots ever. Can't wait to post pics because if there is anything I love more than food porn its fish porn. Mark and I took a solo walk on the beach. We hoped to have Mai tais at dukes but no available tables barside. Ended up at happy hour at margaritaville. Not a bad back up. Looking at a rainbowfrom our lanai before heading for our anniversary dinner at... Red lobster! There isn't one close to where we live so I am excited to go there.

Sorry dukes didn't work out but the drinks are better at Margaritaville even if the ambiance isn't quite the same. Perfect backup. Yay for diamond head, that's a fun little hike.

Dinner at red lobster a mistake. Who knew? Ok probably everyone but us!

@ Cynthia thought of you as we passed by koko head :worship:

Also as we were in search of a beachside drink.

Off to Maui mid day sunday

I'm glad that your snorkeling day worked out well. :thumbsup2

I hope the weather isn't too bad in the next few days. We were in Hawaii once when the Kona winds were blowing, and it was very muggy out.
