30,000 URs for $3,000 spend. Plus 5x URs on Internet, Cable, Phone, Office Supplies & 2x URs at Gas and Restaurant. Partnered with a CSR for redeeming the URs, you can easily get greater than 20% return from the $3,000 min spend...
The only caution here is what are your */3, */6, */12, and */24 statuses? You want to be careful to avoid any risk of Chase shutdown (remember the only cards that count in those *'s are cards reporting on your personal credit report.
The value of the CIP for me is in Plastiq and referrals. As long as Plastiq earns 3x on CIP, it’s a no brainer to keep the card. And if you can make even one referral on the CIP, that more than covers the AF. The CIP also has phone insurance up to $600 (but it might not be useful if you’re on a family plan, which we’re considering). I can understand wanting to have both cards because as long as things code the way they do, Plastiq codes 3x on CIP, and you can pay no fee to earn 5x at office supply stores and gift card apps on the CIC.
If it’s been at least about half a year since your last business card application (sounds like it has), try for the CIC and it’s 30k UR signup bonus. There are plenty of DPs of people getting approved for 2 business cards. 3 and 4 Chase business cards seem to get dicier. Worst case scenario, you get denied with only a hard pull. If you get approved for two business cards with the CIC, but things change with the way things code, you can cancel the CIP and I believe you should be able to get a prorated refund of the AF. If gift card apps no longer code as 5x on the CIC, you can still buy gift cards at physical Staples and OD/OM stores.
The bonus is definitely why I'm considering applying for the card instead of just PCing to it.
Here's what I've got:
09/29/16 - AMEX BCE
01/05/17 - CSR
02/15/17 - Disney Visa
07/06/17 - CIP (which I know doesn't count towards 5/24)
12/26/17 - AMEX SPG Biz (again, doesn't count towards 5/24)
Plus we financed a mattress back on 06/27/16 before I realized it would count against my 5/24 - technically I didn't even know about 5/24 then...LOL. At least this will drop off by the end of June.
We hit DH a bit harder than me over the last several months, as I'm aiming for SW CP for 2019-2020, so I'll need 2 slots in December 2018/January 2019. As long as I'm not missing anything and I can leave out my biz cards, I'm 0/3, 0/6, 0/12, and 5/24. I should be 4/24 in July, so I suppose I can apply for the CIC then. However, I was hoping to go for two SW cards at the end of this year, one being the Biz card, of course depending on what the SW Biz bonus is by then. 3 biz cards might be pushing my luck.
I kept saying I was going to try Plastiq for my mortgage, but I honestly never got around to doing it. I can't believe I've left all those URs on the table.
Even though my last app was in December, it feels as if it's been forever! It's super hard just cooling my heels for the time being, so I'm looking ahead to what I might be able to do in the coming months to try to prepare.
Oh my god. This is us, except the role of husband and wife are reversed! If it’s not Gyft, it’s Swych or MPX or Amex Offers, and shopping portals! Last month, I noticed an Etsy charge on her credit card statement. When I brought up that I could’ve saved her $10 with an Amex Offer and another 1% cash back on Ebates, she retorted it was a gift for me! Oops.
his poor little hamster is spinning away)
Now I just keep seeing a tiny little hamster going around and around.
DH definitely gets how this works and is totally on-board now that we've enjoyed several WDW trips entirely due to our new found hobby. I mean, he even called in to PC his own CSR last month, which I was completely surprised by. I totally expected to get a grumbling response when we had the discussion about his calling. He wasn't thrilled about it, but he did it and was done in no time. He even remarked how quick and painless it was. He just doesn't have anywhere near the attention to detail with things that I tend to have. He'll remember which card to use for dining and gas, but beyond that he will normally shoot me a text to see which he should use. He has been very good about checking in before just pulling a card out of his wallet. He'll often ask me if he needs to remove certain ones from his rotation also. It's the online ordering I need to watch for a bit more.
While he understands the benefit of using Chase Pay with his Freedom on Walmart.com or using Gyft with my CIP to get gift cards, then using those gift cards to pay for whatever it is he is buying, he just sees it as too many steps sometimes. He does seem to be coming around to the Gyft app though. We used it 3 times over the weekend and he was impressed that I had the gift cards instantly.
I am definitely acutely more aware on all our purchases now (except our mortgage it seems). I always make myself stop and think, "Is there some way I can get more points for buying this?"
