Today I looked at my ticker and it said 10 mos I guess it is time to get my butt in gear and start a PJ, so here goes...
I'm Jilian, a 32 year old stay at home mom/nursing student to 3 great kids. I'm married to Brian, he's also 32 and we've been married for 4 years now. We never got to have a real wedding, so we've decided that for our 5 year anniversary we will renew our vows and invite all of our friends and family members to celebrate. Disney is our most favorite place in the world so it only seemed right that we would celebrate there
How we met and fell in love...
I met Brian in 2004. I was newly divorced raising my 2 year old son (who has aspergers) and waitressing nights so I could still stay home with my boy during the day. I had just moved across country from Boston to FL and the only people I knew here were my sister and parents (well and my XH but that wasn't really a good thing). Two weeks after I moved here Brian moved here (from Boston too!) and got a job where I was working. We became quick friends because we were both from Boston and feeling homesick. I knew he liked me but a relationship wasn't high on my priority list and I made that clear. We stayed friends for 6 months. We ended up spending a lot of time together and he'd often come over on his days off to watch movies or help me with things at my house. My son adored him too.
One night work closed early because of an issue in the kitchen. Brian pulled me aside and said that I should really give him a chance. He had already joked a million times that we should be dating by now but this time he was serious. I'm shy so I sat there in silence turning a million shades of red and praying that the ground would open up and swallow me. He didn't give up, the next night a group of us went out after work and he told me that he really liked me. A few more weeks went by of me ignoring his advances and finally on new years eve we kissed. We developed a slow relationship from there and by February we were a couple. The rest is history!
The proposal...not your ordinary fairytale
After we had been dating for 2ish years it was clear that we wanted to remain together and build a life together, only I wasn't willing to marry because my divorce had really tarnished marriage for me. So we bought a house together and began trying for a baby. 6 mos later I was pregnant with a baby boy. Pregnancy brought a lot of mixed feelings for both of us. Brian really did want to be married and as time went on so did I. He came home early from work one day and proposed. Two weeks later a JP married us on the beach with just our parents there. A month later I gave birth to our son. The plan was that after our son was born we'd plan a real wedding and invite all of our friends and family members. Our son had other plans. When he was 2 weeks old we found out that he had a congenital heart defect, he had open heart surgery that night. We came so close to losing him. It was the most awful time of our lives. I don't even have words to describe it. Luckily our baby survived but our lives were changed forever.
Our son grew healthier each month and by the time he was 2 he was moved to yearly cardiology appointments and his heart was perfectly healed. He'll be 4(!) next week and he's doing really, really well. BTW his name is Evan and when he was in surgery we found out that it means warrior. Very fitting! In 2008 we decided to have just one more baby and were blessed with a sweet baby girl. So here we are a family of 5 ready to plan that wedding that we never got around to! I'm excited that we will finally get a real wedding, the memories that come along with it and pictures that we can cherish. I've been so sad about not having pictures all these years!
