Marathon Weekend 2023

Hi. I'm mostly a lurker but the boards have been super helpful to me with all the information and experience people have to offer here! I have a question/advice for folks here about Everest timing. I completed my first Full at Disney last January and will be completing my second at Marathon weekend this year. I really want to ride Everest but I'm trying to figure out what the timing looks like. Last year, I started at around 5:15 AM and hit the 20 mile split in 3:46. Everest is around the 17 mile marker , correct? My training has been going well and I'm hoping to improve this year, but I'm also desperate to ride Everest mid race. I guess what I'm asking is what's the fastest you can be and still make it to AK when Everest starts running? (Not that I think I'll be THAT fast lol, but I'm just trying to gauge if doing some character stops between MK and AK might actually help me time Everest better?) Hopefully, this makes sense. Any advice is welcome!

If you look in your MDE at pictures near Everest, you should be able to get a pretty close time as to when you reached the Everest area. For example, I have a picture taken at 8:25 when I was running under the prayer flags. This was shortly after the picture stop with Carl and Dug. The time that you reach this spot will depend upon how fast you're running, the number of characters you stop for pictures and the length of time for each line. I could be wrong, but I believe that the wait times are going to be longer than last year because you can now hug the characters again rather than standing in a designated spot.

Looking at the map on the tracker site, I thought that this was interesting.

In Magic Kingdom, it looks like they have us running behind 7DMT as opposed to cutting left at the carousel. They also have us running through Adventureland rather than Frontierland, then completing a fairly hairpin turn in front of Splash Mountain.

I don't know where they're dropping mileage to account for these changes, but I do think that it'll be a nice change. I'd love to go through New Fantasyland, get spit on by a camel, and the Frontierland boardwalk sounds magical. I'm just not so sure about the bottleneck by Big Thunder with that very sharp u-turn.

On the early maps I've seen it looks like the first pass through Epcot is different than last year and has us run under Spaceship Earth, but that cut some distance. (Though I haven't looked at the more detailed map on the tracking site.)

it looks like miles 2-4 are slightly different. from last year. the runner tracking map has us going under/past spaceship earth where last year we got routed backstage and then hit world showcase to just past mexico (between mexico and norway) where this year we don't go out to world showcase at all, and instead exit epcot between mission space and test track

I think you're right -- we're losing the entire backstage Epcot leg behind the Seas/Land/Imagination, and instead running straight under Spaceship Earth.

That looks right, comparing the tracker map vs my Strava history. They cut out the backstage portion of Epcot and lengthened MK instead.

It looks like this year will give us about twice as much time in the BB parking lot. It looks like we're going the entire width of the lot, plus two rows of cars deeper.

It looks like one change may be at Blizzard Beach. Although you still go through the parking lot, you will not go into the park. I don't remember if we entered the park in 2022, but we definitely did in 2020.

OK. So here are the "pros" of the BB parking lot. They had a TON of portas there. A big long line of them. And they still had toilet paper in them at 12:00ish when we went through. And there's not much for those between mile 17ish and 23ish. There was a tiny bit of shade.


My garmin put me at 27 miles for the full last year, so I don't trust all of the mile markers on there, BUT I agree with the above statement about where mile 10 is landing in MK.
