Kyle Larson stayed for the entire rain delayed Indy 500. Not sure why when there was all this talk prior to the race about competing in both events. Seems he has more to lose by not being at the NASCAR race. The rules at Indy sounded like any 'replacement' driver had to meet specific criteria. He could have run 1 lap just to be considered as having started and he & his team would have won last place prize money. TV announcers never said why he decided to stay and seemed to forget about that subject once the race started.

Danica Patrick support is decision because Larson was awesome at other racing and it is a shot at aiming for the ideal for both where the last one who tried was Kurt Busch ten years ago. He just went for it and got the not so great outcome, but his decision was support by those who count like the Hendricks. Larson did well and had the lead for a short time and did a good placement for first Indy 500. I enjoyed the races all day.

A few drivers over the years have tried competing in both races not sure what any of them ever accomplished by doing that. It still doesn't explain why he stayed @ Indy for the entire race given the 4 hr rain delay. He is leading the NASCAR points race and they commented that 1-2 points could make a big difference in the outcome at the end of the season. Larson also had a drive-thru penalty for speeding on pit lane. Any type of penalty effectively ends your chance of winning. Leading for a short time @ Indy could simply be the result of a pit strategy. Danica led one race for a short time for the same reason but was never a factor in the outcome of any Indy race.
