The adventures of Tiggerdad (A collection of camping locations, mishaps, reviews, alterations, food, and whatever else I can find)

Tbh, untill bama ed posted some pictures years back, i would have never thought of the " gulf coast " as a destination. Here we go to the jersey shore, Florida or if you have $$$ the hamptons. Might be the pricing and distance to get there, or we just don't know what we don't know. I will make a trip there eventually.

Sunrise this morning was clouded out so I took the morning to ride around on my bike.

Around lunch we headed over to Orange Beach to spend the day with a former coworker and her husband. They live on the Intercoastal.

We headed directly across to a sheltered bayou.

We had picked up some pulled pork and sides at Moe's BBQ in Orange Beach and had lunch on the pontoon.

Afterwards we headed back out and explored some of the coastal residents. Along the way we ran across a dolphin tour boat that had about 6 out in front of it jumping. The little boat to far right is pulling shrimp net. The dolphins love to follow them and grab fish.

On up a bit we went up some of the waterways that pass by nice homes.

Out riding on trails this morning.

Screened pavilion on upper end of park.
20210712_064339.jpg

At pavilion you have 3 choices of what direction. On to Orange Beach...
20210712_064354.jpg

Back towards upper end of campground...
20210712_064359.jpg

Or on around the lakes. I'm looping, so on towards the lake.
20210712_064410.jpg

Along the path is a sign and an eagle's nest. The nest is upper middle of pic. It's about 200 yards away. Pics don't do it justice.

The sign a little closer:

Lefty, the alligator wasn't in her usual location. However, one of the smaller ones was there.

bridge between upper and main lake.

Continuing on. Looking back across lake from the raised walkway. Looking back towards my camper.
20210712_065944.jpg

Zoomed in, mine is the one in the middle with my outdoor refrigerator compartment door open. (White blob)
20210712_071206.jpg

Same view, just backed off a bit.
20210712_071210.jpg

At end of canal road is a trail that went through the woods, crossed a raised bridge and came out in the storage parking area. It was roped off. Not cared for in a while.
20210712_072333.jpg

I went to the bridge and realized why it was closed. Bridge kinda missing. I figured hurricane damage.

However, it would seem...

Fire was the culprit.

back at the camper for a beverage.

Turned TV and I struck gold! Nightcourt!
The very first episode.

Oh man! I hate that I missed you. Typically we are here early but I signed oldest DD up for a 3 day defensive driving course as she gets her drivers license next month and I want her to have all the experience she can get.

We booked next year, same week.
We wouldn't have overlapped at all unfortunately. We were gone by 7 heading into the Pit of Despair...I mean Memphis traffic.

Ha, we aren't the only family cruising OTA at night hoping for gems. I watched 2 episodes of Magnum p.i. when we were at GSP.

I slept in this morning.

Yesterday we did early dinner around 345. Easy parking at Original Oyster House. We just got seated (10 minute wait) when rain rolled in and the wait was quickly rising. We were seated close to receptionists and I could hear her. By time we left it was at 2 hours.

I tried garlic parmesan shrimp and potatoe.
20210712_162818.jpg

Oldest DD got shrimp alfredo
20210712_162822.jpg

DW got Mike's shrimp.
20210712_162831.jpg

youngest DD got fish and shrimp which comes with applesauce and an alligator.
20210712_162840.jpg

We went to Scoops after that for dessert. I had the banana split.
20210712_172022.jpg

Everyone else got hot fudge sundae.
20210712_172026.jpg

If you are wondering if I count calories on vacation, the answer is yes. In this case, it was every damn one of them.

I was about to say, tiggerdad, those food pix from Oyster House looked great.

And then you had room for dessert too? :crowded:

Must be nice being a younger person with a high metabolism.

Good post.

Ed, the shrimp au gratin, my usual dish there, is better. I forgot the salad bar pics.

I didn't get pics, but the signs for Scoops and Papa Raccos are still damaged from last years hurricane. Scoops said covid had everything shut down so they still haven't gotten new sign. I was actually worried, parking lot at Roccos was empty and lights were off. Checking around he is apparently now closed on Mondays and opens late on Tuesdays. Otherwise, wide open.

Today is that most dreaded of days Ed...you know...

After the dreaded Tanger Outlet it was about 3pm and too hot for anything else right now. So, what do you do?

You go to the very nice AMC theater at The Wharf and see the latest Marvel movie. That's what.

Pretty good as all of them have been.

I'll take your word for it (on all of them). I'm waiting for the Tom Cruise/Maverick release at the end of this year. Some of us were old enough to appreciate that when its predecessor came out in theaters decades ago.

Yes but you were supporting the local economy and keeping countless people employed. I dropped your name there when I was shopping in April which spread hope to those retailing away that the summer would be profitable....
