Then time to head out for the day.
Decided to take uber rather than bus over to Beach Club. I knew we had limited time before dinner reservation, so didn’t want to chance a long bus wait time. Arrived and no room assignment via text/app, but they let us know the room number at the front desk. We ended up having issues with my magicband not working, which happened all day (the CM at the desk eventually gave us an anytime FP for the following day but I don’t think we bothered to use it).
Our room was nice. The view wasn’t anything special. And overall I just didn’t really love it. I also don’t like how the villas are so far out of the way, which I understand since it was added on later. So, I don't really feel the need to go back and stay at Beach Club Villas!
When we got in the room, there was a paper printout warning that the slide wasn’t going to be open during the trip. That was so annoying, because one of the reasons for visiting is that fun slide! (In the end, it opened early so I was able to ride).
We eventually got our bags delivered to the room. Where we got cleaned up and ready for dinner.
Hopped on the boat and made our way to the Dolphin (first time actually going into this building).
A bit turned around – signage isn’t great in there. But we made our way to dinner, Shulas.
It was very upscale, with no kids in the restaurant (not a rule, just none happened to be there). There were some annoying conventioneers of course. Meal was huge and delicious (thanks to advice from @Raeven we had a buy 1 get 1 free for my mom’s birthday which was a few days before our trip)!
Mom got the prime rib, which was just huge!
I got the fillet, my favorite cut of steak
And we shared the mashed potatoes and green beans
Wasn’t planning on sharing the soufflé, but we were too stuffed to each get our own! We could barely eat one!
Shulas was very good, but it's not an absolute repeat for me. I think because it is pretty pricey and sides aren't even included (though I think that is typical for fancy steakhouses). I still would recommend it for people looking at good steaks in WDW, but I would prob prefer something that is more uniquely Disney.
Afterwards did stop to check out lobby. Light piece is cool, but mom noticed dust immediately! And overall, it felt too Vegas to me. Not that Disney charm I love. Don’t think I would bother staying at the Dolphin.
Left and could have walked back, but we were too stuffed to move! Ended up getting a private boat ride back (the boat had dropped off passengers at Swolphin and was empty so no point going on to DHS which was closed, so they gave us a lift back to BC).
What is this, a ship for ants?
The BCV lobby
Unpacked and got settled in the room. Mom did plan on sleeping on fold out couch, but there were no sheets! And we couldn’t find any in the spare bedding. So, she moved to the mini murphy bed. She didn’t mind it (at least that’s what she said) and I offered over and over to switch, but she stayed in the smaller bed (considering I paid for it all, it made sense to give me the big bed).
And to bed! While it doesn’t seem that insane of a day, still pretty exhausting! And I’m not used to travelling with someone else, let alone a WDW newbie!
Coming up: my mom returns to Epcot after 30+ years!
