We Came, We Saw, We NAILED It! 2 BFFs Take On The World **9/1 One Man's Dream**

I'm pretty sure MCO is both my favorite and least favorite airport in the world. At the start of a trip, it's my fav, at the end of a trip, it's my least fav! :lmao:

Can't wait for pics of AoA!

Agreed! The layout of the airport is weird!

I'm joining in! We were there Feb 26-Mar 4, so right in the middle of your trip!

That's awesome! We had such great weather!

We headed out of Animation Hall and headed towards the room. The sun felt so wonderful, and in just a few minutes we had arrived at our room. I had asked for a room on the highest floor, with a view of the lake in building 7.

I am happy to report that we did in fact get a room in building 7 on the 4th floor. We were in 7820, which I do believe may be the best room in the entire resort.

Mickey towels!!

Oh yea...and THIS was our view!

Wow!! I have to say, I was so impressed! Who needs to pay extra for a water view room at the Mods or Deluxe's when you can get this at a Value?

At this point, we were starving! We called down to bell services and had our Garden Grocer order brought up. Nothing fancy, just a six pack of Strongbow, some OJ, pickles, olives, Bloody Mary mix and Sprite. Random, right? We brought individual sized bottles of Asti, Vodka, and other spirits with us in our checked luggage. I love Bloody Mary's, but can't say I've ever had a decent one outside of Wisconsin, so I got the stuff to make my own. This worked out well several times on our trip.

Our original plan had been to pick up our rental car and head to Downtown Disney for lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express. We called the Car Care Center and the earliest they were able to send a shuttle for us was 3:15. So, we headed down to Landscape of Flavors and grabbed some lunch...

joining! You had me at Food Porn ... and 28 ADRs!:scared1:

That's amazing that you got free parking and free mimosas ... it's like Pixie Dust before you even got to Disney. Glad your room was ready and you got the requests you wanted - that is quite the view!

Hi Jessica! I'm also live in the midwest, northwest Indiana about 45 minutes from Chicago. I won't hold your Packer allegiance against you!

This sounds like a really fun trip and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Hi there!! Following along... my trip was in the middle of yours. The 23rd through the 27th!

LOVE the theming in your room. And that view! :cloud9:

Nice job with the Friends-esque chapter titles. Seems appropriate for a BFF trip!

It was a great way to start off our trip!

Strongbow and Asti...we could totally be friends! :-)

They really are the best, aren't they??

Thanks for joining in. I won't hold the fact that you are probably a Bears fan against you. As we say here in Green Bay, In Cutler We Trust...

Friends is still my favorite show! Can you believe it's been off the air for 10 years?

What a great view! Love the arrival day excitement!

Thank you! It was a wonderful view and a great way to wake up every morning.

Why!! Duplicate post!

Don't worry! happens to me ALL the time!

We wandered into Landscape of Flavors. We thankfully had missed the lunch rush, so everything went really smoothly.

Below is my dining review of Landscape of Flavors.

For lunch on arrival day, we had been thinking of going to Wolfgang Puck Express. We were going to have a rental car this trip, but were picking it up on site. We were STARVING when we arrived around noon, and our rental pick up time was at 3:00 PM. We didn't really feel like taking the bus to Downtown Disney, so we opted for the next best thing...Landscape of flavors. We opted to split an entree and a snack credit here to save room for Fulton's later on.

For our entree, we had...

DisneyworldFebruary2014047_zps9ea58b33.jpg

Surf and Surf Burger - Crab Cake topped with fried Popcorn shrimp, tomato, lettuce, and cajun remoulade on a brioche bun served with coleslaw or house-seasoned fries $10.99

We ordered this without the tomato and opted for fries instead of coleslaw. This was awesome! The crab cake was more crab than filler, and had good flavor and was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Ditto for the fried shrimp on top. The remoulade added some spice, but was not overpowering and the brioche was light and buttery. The only downside to this is that they would NOT cut this in half for us, so we had to do that ourselves with a regular knife, so it didn't look as pretty after we were done with it.

For our snack credit, we opted for something that popped up on the Disney Food Blog only a few days prior. Here's where things got a little complicated.

This is what we ordered...

DisneyworldFebruary2014046_zpsfb419ad6.jpg

This was the "snack" of naan bread and dipping sauces. The sauces were mango chutney, coriander (cilantro) chutney and Tandoori sauce. Here is where things got a little confusing. The "snack" of naan, is supposed to have two pieces of naan. I didn't realize until we sat down that we only got one. Really though, two wasn't enough anyway to soak up all that amazing sauce. So, I headed back to the food court, asked for two more pieces of naan, and went to check out. The total? $6!!! How can that be I asked, since the naan WITH dipping sauce was that much. The cashier insisted that if I wanted more naan, then I needed to pay $6. I was not about to fork over $6 nor burn a snack credit on it. I went back to the counter and asked if it was correct and was told it was not, it should be $1.19 each. Back to the cashier we went and it was all sorted out. Naan bread successfully retrieved, we finished enjoying our meal. I have to say, this was probably the single best use of a snack credit of the entire trip. The sauces were all soooo flavorful and just YUM!

We were able to grab a seat outside. The weather was gorgeous. However, in true central Florida fashion, as we were just getting to the meal, it looked like this.

We decided to check out the gift shop quick to wait out the rain. I hadn't intended on buying anything, but I found this...

And I had to have it. First souvenir out of the way for this trip, and with the rain over, we decided to head off to The Drop Off for a drink.

And below is my review for that...

We ended up with a little extra time between our lunch ADR and when we needed to go pick up our rental car, so we decided to spend it at The Drop Off Bar.

It was pretty dead when we got there, we were the only two seated at the bar, but several people did walk up while we were there.

They have a pretty extensive menu and I was pleased to find out that they make everything fresh to order.

Megan went with this...

DisneyworldFebruary2014053_zps93806603.jpg

It was not on the menu, but she ordered a Miami Vice. I am used to these being made with half pina colada and half strawberry daiquiri. This one was mostly pina colada with raspberry puree. No matter, it was still excellent.

I went with this...

DisneyworldFebruary2014052_zps68095957.jpg

Grand Margarita - Jose Cuervo gold tequila, grand marnier, lime juice and sweet and sour $9.50

It was excellent and was much stronger than I expected. It earned a big :thumbsup2 from me.

All in all, a great stop!

After our drinks, we headed out front to wait for our shuttle. We rented with Alamo from their on-site location. Not really knowing how we would like having a car, we only reserved it for a week. The original plan was to reserve an economy car, since we didn't need to worry about luggage. For our stay, the premium car happened to be the least expensive option, so we ended up going with that.

While we were waiting, I managed to get a much nicer picture of the Art of Animation sign...

DisneyworldFebruary2014050_zpsab4a3ba1.jpg

At exactly 3:15 the shuttle pulled up. There was one other group on board with us, and then we stopped at Pop Century to pick up one other group. Since we were not so smart and sat in the back of the shuttle, we were the last people in line when we got there.

We arrived at the Car Care Center...and WOW. That place is about as far removed from Disney as you can be. Peeling paint on the walls. Crayon scribbles, bags of trash in the hallway. Pictures off the wall. It was pretty bad. There were only two people there to help with reservations, so it meant we had a bit of a wait. One group in front of us wanted to play Goldilocks that day, and had to go out and look at 3 different vehicles before they were satisfied. While they were doing that, the representatives terminal was tied up, so we had to wait. Insert eye roll here. The other group was from Mexico, and the agent had some trouble figuring out their license. It turns out, in Mexico, their licenses don't expire! I want a driver's license from Mexico! We had a nice chat with them while we were waiting for the agent to figure that out.

She was pretty quick about it, because she finished that before the Goldilocks party had settled on a car. We were done in about 5 minutes. We laughed when we found out that our car would be this...

A Nissan Maxima, because that is what we both drive at home. Well, at least we know what we're doing, right? This one was a 2014 and is a year newer than mine, so it was nice to check out.

Finally, we were headed to our first "destination" of the trip...Downtown Disney

I keep seeing that Surf and Surf burger on dining reviews and now I want one! Crazy about wanting to charge you $6 for extra naan.

Sorry , but I am :rotfl2: at the idea of people with Goldilocks syndrome. I think I'm going to have to borrow that term.

Friends is still my favorite show! Can you believe it's been off the air for 10 years?

Nope! Probably because I still watch it several times a week :yay:

I saw a pin set when I was there that had all of those shoes in it!! I came VERY close to buying it!!!

While it would probably be fun driving something different, I think renting the same type of car I already drive would make me feel better about the whole thing... but I hate driving, so just ignore my babbling :)

I really need to look into staying at AoA next time I go.

All caught up!

Sounds like the "Miami Vice" was actually Disney's Pina Colava. It's my favorite!

Love your Little Mermaid room!

The Alamo rental place sounds a bit scary! Glad you were able to get a nice car, at least!

I have no idea where I got that from, so you are more than welcome to steal/borrow it!

Man, I am so sad I never saw that pin set! That would have been awesome! We LOVED AoA! I don't know why people complain that he walk is far. It took us exactly 3 minutes (at a slow pace) to get from our room to the main building.

All caught up!

I think that was what their Miami Vice ended up being! It was just funny because she ordered it and asked the bartender if he knew what that was, and he said he sure did. Well, evidently not, but still delicious.

Enjoying your report! Thanks for including your dining reviews. Nice ride!!!
