What to do near Newport

DH is going on a 3/4 day deep fishing trip on a Monday. Trying to find things to do with dd9 while he is fishing. Was thinking of a whale watching trip. What else is close by of interest in the area or not to far and easy to get to.

you can take the Harbor cruise which is close to fishing, its like 45 minutes and they cruise the harbor and tell you about famous peoples houses.

You can go across on the ferry and walk along balboa island to the main street and do a little shopping

Renting bikes is popular and ride along the bike path along the beach

Lunch at Rubys at the end of the pier

Fashion Island is close and is a high end shopping mall which is very nice, outdoors

I think longboard55 covered most of the things I can think of in Newport Beach. It's mostly nice restaurants/shopping and beach/water related activities there. Newport Beach is sort of an upscale neighborhood.

Are you limited to walking distance or will you have a car? Public transportation is pretty miserable down there, and you won't be able to hail taxis off the street or anything, so if you don't have a car you'll need to call taxis or Uber.

You could also go over to Catalina Island for the day. You can pictures in my signature area. Do a golf cart. Zip line. Beach area. Tour the Casino.

May be too late to offer recommendations, we just rented a Duffy Electric Boat in Long Beach - they are also available in Newport. AWESOME, AMAZING, SO MUCH FUN!!! My DD9 and DS7 thought it was one of the highlights of any of the 17 trips to SoCal we've made from Chicago. Just so much fun. Grab some food, have a picnic out on the water!!! I think if you google "duffy electric boats newport" it'll pop up. We were orignally thinking Newport, but headed to Long beach instead & did the Queen Mary tour afterwards.
