The time has almost arrived for me to book our car hire for October. Since I will be doing all of the driving this trip. I fancy treating myself and hiring a luxury car.

Can I have any recommendations on ones you have hired and also the best places to hire from.

Thanks:thumbsup2

Hi Florence,

We usually go for a minivan but Dollar generally do a nice Chrysler luxury car -300c touring - photo below.
Normally book direct with them and have 'dollar express' also to beat the queue's.

Are you talking about "Luxury" category, or simply something you would consider to be luxurious? The Luxury category tends to encompass big, executive saloon cars. However, there are also luxurious, fully-loaded vehicles available in other categories such as SUV and Convertible. We've booked Luxury category on many occasions, mostly through Dollar, but recently also with Alamo. We've also booked Prestige with Hertz.

With the Hertz Prestige Collection, you're able to book a specific make and model (in our case, a Lincoln Navigator). With all the major rental companies, as far as other categories are concerned, you don't get to choose.

Dollar mainly uses Chrysler and we've had 300s on a number of occasions, but we've also had Lincoln Towncars (which are far superior in terms of quality, but some many consider them be a tad old-school in terms of looks) and, on one occasion, a Buick.

Alamo's main partnership is with Cadillac. We've had an SRX and a CTS. In January this year, we went for the SUV category and had a Chevrolet. I didn't like it at all - so much so that I can't even remember what model it was. The beauty of Alamo, though, is that you get to pick your car from those available in your chosen category, once you reach the garage.

I'd suggest having a look on the Chrysler, Dodge and Cadillac websites to get a feel for what you fancy. Post back here and we can tell you what category they fall into.

another vote for chrysler 300c -my DH loved it and now drools over ads in the newspaper :sad2:

Just be careful though what we regard as luxury others may not ;)

Nice one Johnny:thumbsup2

Deb ~ I drive a pretty decent car here in the UK. I'm talking about the Luxury category. I'll certainly have a look on the Chrysler, Dodge and Cadillac websites.

Please keep your recommendations coming folks:thumbsup2

Given what you drive, Florence, I'd take a look at the Hertz Prestige Collection and Dollar's Style Series... :thumbsup2

Just spoke to DH and he reminded me that we've booked with Budget for August - they had some really cool cars to choose from in their Driver's Choice collection... :goodvibes

Good luck!!!

I had upgraded to the 'Premium' level with Dollar for my latest trip, this is one down from 'Luxury'

I did my homework before I went and knew that I could expect a Chrysler Pacifica or a Chrysler 300C. Asked for the Pacifica, none available so he offered a Dodge Magnum. I knew that this was the estate version of the Dodge Charger which I had last year and so wanted a change and asked for a 300C.

They said no problem and tried to get me to pay extra to upgrade to the 'luxury' version of the 300C, I declined and was not surprised to see that the car waiting for me in the parking lot was a '300C touring' which is described on the Dollar website as being in their 'luxury' range!

As others have said, dependent on what you drive here, almost any of the American cars will feel luxurious in terms of size, equipment and horsepower.

You surely are not serious!!

American cars are awful! The automatic gearboxes are sloppy, the suspension is too soft and they are gutless in comparison to the same engine size in the UK.

We currently drive a Jaguar X type automatic 2.5 V6 and a US 2.5 ltr automatic is not a patch on it. Our last car was a Mercedes C Class auto (2.0 ltr) and the same applied to that.

This year we are hiring a mustang convertible from Hertz as we thought we'd go for something a bit different. If you drive a decent car in the UK then please don't expect US luxury cars to be like ours

:rotfl2: You sound just like my dad! He always sits at lights revving the car over there to prove how poor a "bite" it has compared to ours!

That may be true but I don't think I have ever had anything less than a 5 litre car over there, and they always seemed pretty sharp out of the blocks to me!
