Taking trash bags to trash room

During our recent trip to SSR, my roommate made note of all the people who were leaving bags of trash outside their door instead of taking it to the trash room. He had a pet peeve about it, because he said it made the halls look bad.

I never had a problem taking the trash down to the trash room, because it was on our way to the pool, but wasn't really bothered that other people didn't.

What about others? Do you leave your trash outside the room, or take it down to the trash room? What's the "right" way?

Take it to the trash room! I do this a couple of times each trip and it's easy as can be. I agree with your roommate...no reason to leave trash bags in the hall that I can see. :confused3

Yuck! I agree with your roommate. If everyone did that - not only would the halls LOOK bad, but SMELL bad as well!

I kind of look at it like at home. The garbage man doesn't come knock on my front door and go through the house collecting the trash out of my garbage cans. I have to do a little work and collect it and then take it to the curb. And since DVC is supposed to be our "home" - why shouldn't we all do the same?

We always take it to the trash room. I also hate the way it looks sitting in the hall, and it really doesn't take much effort to take it to the trash room! I think I'm more particular about keeping things looking good at DVC than I am at home sometimes!!

It is one of my pet peeves, too. I always take it to the trash room. However, I think many who do leave it outside may be renters, cash CRO guests, or DVCers that are not familiar with the layout of that particular resort. I would hope that folks that actually own at a resort know where the facilities are, and make use of them.

Yikes! :scared1:

Does this mean piles of trash will be in the halls when I treat my parents to a trip next year?

How extensive is this problem?

Maybe it should be part of the check in spiel! ;) You know like you are here, go here to your room, here is the pool, here is the trash room.

Another option would be to make all of the resort trash services the vacuum tubes like at MK. It could be an attraction to see your trash get "sucked away"!:thumbsup2

As Chuck said, there have been a number of CRO guests at SSR this summer so it's plausible that many of them would expect someone to come by and collect trash the way it's done at most hotels. I think most members would realize that putting a bag of trash outside the door if housekeeping isn't scheduled for that day would probably result in the bag of trash still being there at the end of the day or at least until a diligent housekeeper decided to cart it away.

I was just thinking about how awful the trash looks in the hallways. Maybe the next time we go and there is trash in the hall, I will take it to the trash room myself and leave a little pre-made card in it's place that says:

Your trash was taken care of by a proud DVC member!:thumbsup2

I guess then I had a misunderstanding. I thought that CRO guests (or guests "bumped" over like has been reported happening this summer) received daily mousekeeping without an extra charge? Am I confused (again)?:confused3

They do receive daily housekeeping, but that doesn't preclude them from putting a full bag of trash outside when they change bags. Most hotel guests aren't used to the concept of keeping full bags of trash inside or emptying it themselves.

CRO guests do receive daily housekeeping. But, there may be instances where they don't want to be disturbed, but want to dispose of their trash, much like leaving room service trays in the halls at many hotels.

People renting from DVC members do not receive daily housekeeping, and likely are a higher percentage of the "offenders" than CRO guests.

Thanks jarestel and Chuck - I thought I remembered that bit of information, and your explanations both make a lot of sense. Just making sure that I'm not losing (more of) my mind!

If we have room service we will call mousekeeping and let them know we are putting our tray outside our door. Otherwise, we alway take our trash and recyclables down to the appropriate containers as needed.

I thought this is how it worked also, but when we had our family reunion at SSR in June, I told my family to take the trash to the trash room. We one of my smart alec nephews called the front desk and they told him to leave it in the hall! I still made them take it down, but, I can understand now why there is confusion.

Yep major pet peeve of mine. I had a neighbor and we were even on the first floor that "refused" to take their to the Trash room that was steps away.

Being the neighborly type I thought maybe they did not know where it was located so, one day we passed in the hall and I very nicely shared where it was located and that they might come back to a room full of bugs.

I was told that no way in He&& were they going to take their trash to the trash room, they paid enough for their membership for those lazy maids to pick it up daily for them.

Finally I got sick of it and called the Front Desk and someone came down and talked to them about sanitation and it was removed from then on.

Sadly to say I think as many members leave it as guests.

And this person kept piling it closer to other's doors than theirs. So I kept piling it right back on their welcome mat so at least when they came out they had to step over it.

There's no excuse for this since they obviously knew better. I hope these kinds of folks are few & far between, but I guess you never know.

ITA. It took us until trip number 3 (and reading these boards ;) ) before we even knew there was a trash room we could utilise. It may be obvious to some people, but it wasn't to us!

We were told by mousekeeping to put it in the hallway in the morning (as DH was taking it out). We still put it out ourselves...with dirty diapers from DS9months...nobody else should have to put up with that!
