Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

I am so glad to hear that other people are really hungry all the time.

The other night I was eating something (for like the millionth time) and my DH looked at me funny. I said "bite me" and he said "I'm gonna have to, there is not going to be anything else left"  :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
That's way too funny.

I have found myself going the other way. I'm no where near as hungry as I was. Of course I haven't done anything over 7.5 miles so that may help!

Perhaps with all the heat issues in running eventsa lately, we could nix this phrase. Too much worry fo me! ;)

Sorry didnt' mean to offend anyone. That's a good point about the heat. I shall strike the phrase from my vocabulary.:thumbsup2

Glad the eating thing isn't just me. I mentioned it to DH last night. I know I've put back the calories I burned, guess I'm saving up for the next one.

I'm just a worrier. I can't imagine you offended anyone. :goodvibes

Let's see....I think I've been doing the calories for amrathons through 2011. :rolleyes1 WHy don't I remember this ebfore. Seems liek I was always pretty good coming off amrathon.

I had a big spoon of peanut butter, as we have no bread :upsidedow , this am. That seemed to help.

OMG, so funny! :lmao: And depressing enough for me, "It's funny because it's true."

This week's motivator:
The tortoise and hare
Each reaching the finish line:
One path, two journeys.

Christy: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: So true, so true!!!

I put in my full 40 minutes today of easy running and, man did I take it easy. I made it a whopping 3 miles. :woohoo: Good thing I am not being hard on myself. I have to admit (to you not my DH) that I went snowmobiling for 6 hours yesterday and I am really sore today, up in my shoulders and, believe it or not, my thighs!! I had to ride DHs sled which is HUGE and I am a peanut on it and (probably only a few of you appreciates this remark) I felt like I was riding a thoroughbred!!!

Panda Dave: I was really trying to speed walk today at about 4.2 to 4.4 mph and I am having a hard time not breaking into a trot. Any suggestions??? Again, the thoroughbred analagy. I am just an untamed spirit, someone rein me in.....

Hi there,

First want to say I saw your shirts while doing the 5K at AK marathon weekend and love them. The saying made me feel better as I had some concerns. It was my second 5K however I tore my ACL in Sept so didn't get to train like I wanted. Got home and had to look you up (fortunately remembered the Disboards).

While watching folks run on Sat and Sun, DH and I decided we could do that so we are both signed up for the 1/2 at WDW in 2009! Also doing the 5K in March and plan on the Tower of Terror 13K in October this year.

This looks like such a great place to get encouragement, tips and fun so....

:yay: Please sign us up!

Liz & Patrick

Oh, and being new we'd certainly be interested in shirts and I can always use more running socks.

Liz and Patrick: Geez, I dunno, it's pretty hard to join this group.....

WELCOME ABOARD!!!!

I hope you like lots of joking, poking and good ole fashioned fun.

(hey, we aren't just about the exercise ya know...)

Thanks and all exercise would make for a rather boring place to hang out IMHO. :)

Just wanted to chime in with my training for the 2009 Donald Duck, lol, that sounds so silly, ok the 1/2 Marathon.

I'm alternating days walking with a biking warm up and warm down with doing pilates mat work at home in front of the tube. We'll see how that goes, my intention is to miss a day only due to illness or injury -- for me, consistancy is so key, I'll find any excuse to stop completely if I start slacking off here and there.

I saw the cutest idea on another thread, to "walk to Disney World"! I calculated it's 944 miles from my door to the Beach Club (where I want to stay for the marathon weekend), and so far this week I've biked/walked 7 miles, so that's 937 to go! It averages out to about 3 miles per day I have to cover, but since I put in a lot of fast miles on my bike warm ups/cool downs I'm sure I can cover it.

I am going to go get some real shoes next week, there's a Fleet Feet about 40 minutes from my house.

So far, being able to even do one 16 minute mile or less seems like an impossible goal, but I'm going to just keep keeping on and see where I am in May in terms of pace.

I am wondering if it's really possible for me to walk instead of run, to make time. I checked out some race walking techniques online and I've been experimenting with that gait, still not sure what my plan of attack is. Running right now is virtually impossible, with the shape I'm in, at 250 pounds, but who knows what I'll feel like in three months!

I am definitely motivated, though -- I think I'm discovering my inner competitor!

GinnyFavers/Amanda -- We KNOW you can do it!!! The more you walk the faster your pace will be. There are people on here who walk at a 13-14 minute pace regularly (of course, there are also those who are SPEEDwalkers! :cool1: ).

Cam are you and Howard renewing your Vows during your trip for the Marathon next year? I just noticed your countdown.

Nancy

I LOVE the tech shirt idea. My only comment is that for some of us ladies who have a certain body shape, a crew neck shirt is not flattering, and with the way a sports bra works, I need a v-neck. I'm not sure if they'll be accommodating to mens vs womens styles--I'm pretty small and men's sizes make me look silly.... I don't know if I'm the only one who has that concern, though. Just my feedback. :)

Me too!!! I'd prefer a v-neck ladies if possible. My current Wish shirt comes down to my knees! lol! I'm not that small though. Short--Yes, Small--not so much ;) Not yet anyway! Here's to hoping this Minnie training keeps me moving and losing! :goodvibes

Oh, BTW...I'm not listed on the "team roster"

Come check out the WISH hat/visor interest thread!

We're currently at interest for 31 hats and 23 visors. I'll ask Mom(NYcpa) if she can post the pictures that she did last year when the first order came in to give the newer WISHers an idea what they look like. We have enough people to do an order but the more ordered the lower the price per piece. We will ship anywhere but will adjust the shipping price to true cost for out of the US. We ate a bit of the cost for shipping to Canada last time and I suspect the UK or Oz would be worse.

Lisa- I've ran the last 3 days but will be skiing 25 km at Rangeley Lakes tomorrow. My preceptor is taking me over so he can preview the Loppet course and then we're going snowshoeing to check out his camp and property. We skied at Black Mountain last weekend. They've held NCAA national champs for Nordic 3 times so far and will make it number 4 in 2009. It's definitely a hard-core nordic ski area not people in jeans and 3 pin bindings.

Welcome new WISHers!

A question- did the Disneyland Half sell out last year and if so when? The timing has been awful the last two years in relation to Ironman Wisconsin so I didn't really pay attention.

Okay, so it's 9 p.m. and I just got home from the gym. I wanted to go earlier, but kept getting sidetracked (husband disappeared, mom called, etc). I can't believe I made myself get off the sofa! Anyway, I did 2.65 miles (assuming I can't count the 2.5 miles I drove to the gym each way) on the treadmill. I tried the Clif organic goo stuff (chocolate) about 15 minutes before my workout. The good news: it didn't upset my stomach (yes, I drank a glass of water with it) and I think it did help with the 50 minute treadmill workout. The downside: I hate the texture--very hard to swallow.

I also used my rescue inhaler BEFORE my work out (like I'm supposed to) and it was definitely easier to breathe.

So far, week one of the workout plan has me walking just over 7 miles (that's seven miles more than I walked since we went to Disney in December, and 7 miles more than I walked between that Disney trip and the previous one in August!).

Thank you so much everyone here for all the support. I like having virtual workout buddies when I am at the gym--I feel less silly to have "imaginary" friends when I go (which I suppose tells you a lot about me if I feel really silly without imaginary friends!).

Duckie I can so relate - there were many a time last year I wanted to be lazy, or find an excuse NOT to 'get out there' - and I'd wander into this thread, and there would be cheers, or posts encouraging me specifically - and I'd think to myself... "well, they believe in me, guess I can do just 15 min" and those 15 min would often stretch into 30 or 60 min

Amanda I so understand where y ou are at - I dont know if you've seen any of the pictures I've posted of me - but I am so not a lean mean running machine!! I of course in my own mind do not picture myself as "fat"... so I go out there and really "run" - of course I know that everybody can walk faster than I "run" - I think someone here posted about the smaller steps - which translate to my "wog" (walk/jog) as opposed to my walking gait - I have long legs - and tend to use them to walk!! But I was unable to work out for quite a few weeks - (around 2 weeks I was pretty much bedridden - in Oct) so I had a huge set back - but I still got out there, I still completed that 1/2 marathon - but honestly, it was so discouraging NOT to be able to keep up with the walkers!!

Good thing that was just MY START!!! :woohoo:

Knowing I'm not alone is a huge advantage to my workouts!!

Cam I'm also cheering you on the sidelines!! :cheer2:

Yes, it did. It closed out for Californians pretty early, as I recall, but for out-of-staters, slots were still available in July (b/c that is when I finally registered).
