I had to un-decorate my room window!

I do think it is odd that so many think nothing of hanging lights up yet don't think anyone should have a toaster or other non Disney approved appliance. Talk about a fire hazard. To the OP, I think it was either the writing or Disney is cracking down on decorating in general. They have a theme to each resort and maybe they think the window decorations are distracting to that theme. We don't decorate but I do bring small battery lit pumpkin to sit on our dresser in our room. We use it as a night light and it adds to the Halloween timing.

To all the late posters...Disney was already contacted and said they have nothing against decorating.

Dollar Tree has today suction cup hooks in Christmas Themes. Snowman and stocking. They come 2 to a package. So this will help those who want to hang signs in their window or on the mirror.

:santa:

Thank you :thumbsup2. You took the words right out of my mouth. I can't bring my microwave, and got flamed for asking on here once, although christmas tree lights start many fires every year. They are cheaply made and short out easily. I have no problem with room decorations as long as they are tasteful. I don't want to feel as if I am in a college dorm
especially with the prices I pay for a Disney vacation.

I decorate my window at the values all the time. It's fun.. just clings and a few little figurines in the window sill. Then I add any towel animals I get as time goes by. Just my observation.. so take it for what it's worth... I am in no way a prude but perhaps the comment,
"Captain Jack hide here!" can be taken the wrong way?:confused3 If you don't agree.. please don't flame me. Just thinking that some guests could take it meaning the more 'sex symbol" way rather than a hiding place for a pirate! :goodvibes Being Disney is a very family place the free exchange and writing on windows may put ideas in guests minds that they don't want them to have. JMHO.

I have been told by window manufacturers that markers and window clings on a sealed window (double or tripple pane) will greatly increase the heat absorption of the window to a point of potentially damaging the seal. A short term decoration is fine, but if someone leaves the decorations up for a week or more in the Florida Sun, and if the next family also decorates....that is a whole bunch of windows at risk.

I've also never seen a window decorated at WDW. Me thinks I'm staying at the wrong place. :)

I wouldn't do it personally, but why rain on others parades? Now I want to when I go for the h.moon in October.

Hmm...I leave holiday decorations up for month's on end in the hot FL sun and haven't had a problem...sounds like those windows wouldn't be up to code (esp. a hurricane code!) if they can be damaged in such a manner.

Call me crazy, but i think your spouse may have other ideas about what to do on your honeymoon.:woohoo:

BTW, congratulations and good luck.

we just did magnets on the door & didnt have any trouble

Those are adorable! How can you make homeade ones?

I knew of the metal door frames, so I got some Canadian magnets (since I am Canadian ;) )

I just wanted to do clings and white mini lights(but Im still in the bigging stages of the window decor).

I have nothing much to add at all, but I must say that your spirit shouldn't be dampened. DW has already said they are for decorating. perhaps just try it in a different way. Don't feel embarassed or anything please. Let's all remember the spirit and magic of why we go. I applaud you for your pictures and hard work. And Im sure next time you CAN decorate your window, just try different methods and be a little more conscious of the choices. If I walked by your window it would definitely get my attention and I would think you all were having a GREAT time!!! So on your efforts and spirit and putting your heart into it all, you did a wonderful job!

Also, I would like to comment as to why we would decorate. I agree on one large point, it helps us find our rooms. Sounds sort of lame that we cant find our rooms. lol I get that. But it will pop out at us. We will see it and know that we did that, it's ours, and we are proud. Secondly, to have msgs left on your door (with paper notes..again being conscious of the property and surroundings) saying things like hope you are having a great trip, that adds to the Magic of it all. Which, again, is why we go! Also, as we all have our own reasons, I have a 2.5 and 3.5 year old. We are celebrating their birthdays and Christmas, and it being our first trip. I want every detail...every memory, every piece of the day full of magic. That same feeling of the morning of Christmas... I want that for all of us...all day every day. This adds to that. I hope you understand the reason why I would decorate, just as I can understand why not to bother with the hassle.

Ok, enough of me rambling. I just wanted to mainly let the OP know she is not 'wrong' or shouldn't be 'ashamed'.

I am told clings are ok, writing on the window is what caused the problem. Apparently some people have done writing and painting on the windows then left the mess for mousekeeping. That is a big no no and you will be charged. So in the future lets just all clean up after ourselves and keep the decorations to clings and the like.

I saw you stayed at ASSport. That is where the big youth groups for sporting events stay. I once read the rules that they had to follow to stay in WDW. One of them included no decorating the windows. (You know how sometime these group can be very competitive, even back at the hotel.)

So the new policy could be an extension of that. Since those rules were not followed, fees were added as a deterrent.

I read this to say no window decorating, not no window decorating except for window clings.

I'd check with the resort before putting anything on the window if you want to avoid being charged.

We stayed at CSR 8/23-8/31 and Decorated the door with a banner, banner in room, and banner in window. Never received a message to take down decor or be charged. And I'm thankful for that because it was decorated for my son's 7th birthday on the 29th. Took everything down before we left.

I'm kind of glad.

I haven't read all of the thread yet, so I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but honestly....

I pay a lot of money for the DISNEY ambiance. To me, decorations on doors and windows are something you see in elementary schools and college dorms. It's NOT Disney Pixie Dust Ambience.

If you want to decorate your mirror or the inside of your door that's one thing. But I'm just as upset by decorated doors I pass in the hotel as I would be if you left a pile of dirty clothes in the hallway.

Uh yup! You need to read through the rest of the thread. 'Cause you just ran over a bunch of toes! LOL!! Including mine. For many of us, WDW is a celebration, and many of us like to share that in our windows. I did it for our family reunion in July and for our 24th wedding anniversary in later July. And it is still usually very Disney because we decorate with all things disney.

Yes, it can sometimes be over done and over the top. But all that I have seen including my own are very simple and quite fun.

Just a suggestion, but read before you leap! LOL!:goodvibes

Blessings,
Winnie

IA. The Disney resorts have enough of the Disney touch that is needed to keep them looking attractive and inviting. It would only get worse if Disney were to not say anything at all. Especially with ones who are using marker (whether washable or not) or extra sticky tape. And that would take more time for housekeeping to clean up and in turn take away from the real cleaning, (which lets face it, people already complain about) that they should be doing. And I didn't read the entire thread as well, but no need to, as I'm only stating my opinion. No one has to agree with it for it to be posted. ;)

Just wanted to say that I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion. And yes, even if they don't read the entire thread. I just felt the opinion stated that I responded to was a bit harsh, and I feel if the poster had read through all the threads, they may have worded their "opinion" a bit differently.

I still see nothing wrong with decorating your window, not at all. I do believe it can be done over the top and exagerated. And I most definately would never "write" with anything on their windows. I think this is where the original poster messed up and got into trouble.

And as a matter of fact, I have seen many times where the "Mouse keeping" CM's have seen and given very positive remarks to window decorations, and have many times added to them. Such as putting the guest stuffies in the window, hanging in the tied curtain. Or even placing a new small towel animal in the window along with decorations. This has happened to me both times I've decorated. So really don't think it's that big of an issue.

And yes, as you said, this too is my opinion.
Blessings as always,
Winnie

O.K., we aren't actually going to be 'In The World' over Christmas, but the reality is, our trip IS our Christmas gift to ourselves! I have one string with maybe 10 Mickey/Minnie lights, 3 plushies, and a few window clings. No paint, tape, glue, or other offending products. We think it adds to the fun and excitement. DS (25) and I will have a great time stopping for a "beverage" and walking around just to see how others are decorating.
