Not really sure why this board needs brand-specific PotD threads

I can see both sides of the arguement (ok I'm standing on top of the fence!!!) I've visited the Canon thread, as well as the S# IS thread and the Nikon thread.

There are a few different PotD threads here on Dis.....

Should we "dump" the Canon and Nikon threads and instead start a Photo Board Picture of the Day thread. Where everyone posts 1 picture each day that does not have to be Disney Specific (There are plenty of those threads in other parts of the boards)?

I mean after all, this is the Photography Board, we probably should have our own PotD thread.

I love seeing everyone's pictures. I really don't personally care what camera you use. So long as you like it and it takes pictures. Thats all that matters.

There are so many things in this world that bother me - but this is not one of them.

Sure I joke about Canon being the best - but I know for a fact that it is not the camera but the person behind the camera that makes a good photo.

We all have our pet peeves and I am not picking on anyone - but to me this is small stuff and I don't sweat the small stuff.

You mean we are allowed to visit threads with photos taken by a camera that is not the same brand as our own???

Well now you guys tell me!

I am a newbie to the Canon dSLR stuff. I just got a deal over Christmas that was to good to pass up. So I started the Canon thread hoping to get better ideas on how to begin and take better shots. I have an XTI. I found out about http://photography-on-the.net/ and will go to there for help as well.

I've always had point and shoots before. A Nikon coolpix and a Sony cybershot. My Sony is an amazing camera and I hope to get fluent with the SLR as I am hoping for a summer vacation to Disneyland with the family. A generic board or broken into brands board I don't care I'm just happy shooting.

i like this idea.... although since i have canon and handicap has nikon doesn't that mean i automatically have to disagree with him:scratchin ? if so rats, too bad he had a good idea

;)

first, I'm crushed.. several people mentioned visiting the nikon and canon threads...why not the sony thread... are we outcasts....

second, I'm opposed to eliminating any brand specific threads, anyone is free to read or ignore those threads,,,

eliminating them is like censoring what other people choose to post on here , if we start there, where does it end,,

do we then eliminate subject specific threads... no more..cat threats, dog threads... family threads...??

There's a Sony thread?

Cool. Both our HDTV's are Sony's!!!

Just an observation :teeth: but it seems to me the people feeling least "left out" are those who shoot with Canon and Nikon.

Those of us who aren't members of those "clubs" naturally feel a bit shunned.

But then again, as one of the few Olympus users here, I often feel that way. (We were joking on the Oly thread that maybe we could start a picture of the month thread. :lmao: )

I would never be in favor of closing any threads, but I would love to see a general Photog Board POTD thread for all of us here who love photography and couldn't care less what anyone shoots with.

I kind of think of us here as all having kind of a kinship in our mutual love of the art and science of photography, and Disney photography in particular. Maybe we should call a new thread the Team Disney Photography Board POTD thread, as really, that's what we are.

What sealed it for me was last night when I was showing a new friend at work - whose mother happens to be a professional photographer - some pictures of Disney on some of the "other" Disney related sites, and the pictures really were just ok. So I showed him some of the pictures here, and he was pretty Wowed (as was I, as usual). I think we should give ourselves more credit for all of the great work we see here! :thumbsup2

It looks like nobody has started one yet. I'll go ahead if people like the name and concept unless someone else would like to. Let me know. Other names, of course, are welcome. (List ideas.) That way people can post wherever they like, but at least there's a choice.

Also, think of it this way... Say I decided to start a Sony PotD thread, then someone made a Pentax thread, then someone else an Olympus thread... there would then be five different brand-specific PotD threads to look at every day.

And more photos to look at everyday would be a problem why??:confused3 Personaly I don't see a problem with brand specific PotD threads. And there is a Sony thread already, not a specificaly titled a PotD thread, but a Sony brand specific thread nonetheless.

OK,, I think I'll start a MICK-A-MATIC MICKEY MOUSE CAMERA
mickeycamera25-vi.jpg
photo of the day thread,

I look forward to seeing who requests that be closed..:cool1:

Works for me :thumbsup2 I like the name also!!

I wasn't sure if the Team Disney name would be too sappy, so I left it kind of generic to start. I can always change it. May be time for a poll.

I just enjoy looking at everyone's photos and creativity on here ( and I think this board has a superbly wide range of wonderfully creative people). It doesnt matter to me where they are posted I read and view pretty much all of the threads. I have posted some of my pictures both in the Nikon thread and the Last time you used your camera thread for those who dont visit the Nikon thread. I do however like the idea of an All for one and One for all POTD and posting the exif data with the picture if the poster wishes to do that. :flower3:

I agree with Code... I've never understood the value of a thread just for photos from a particular brand. OK, I can see someone asked for some example photos from a particular lens or whatever - but a whole thread for anything from one particular manufacturer? And if they are DSLRs, how many of those are taken with third-party lenses? And how about that Sony makes most (maybe even all, though Nikon denies it) the sensors for Nikon and all the Pentax sensors except for the K20D's? Heck, through a Tamron 28-75mm on a Sony A100, Nikon D80, or Pentax K10D, shoot raw, and you should get pretty much exactly the same thing as they're all the same sensor!

But really, as I said, I agree with Code - the lack of serious brand wars is a definite plus around here, and the very concept of a photo thread to "show off" photos from only one brand is IMHO inescapably feeding into the brand war mentality.

And yes, the fact that, as far as I know, there's never been a Pentax version of the brand threads has nothing to do with my opinion. :) Seriously, if someone did start one, I would not participate despite my great love for my Pentax gear, because of my feeling above.

The idea of a non-Disney PotD thread for the photo board (as opposed to the community board, which is fine but there's about 500 PotD threads) is certainly an interesting one.

.

sadly that is not true, although the sensors are the same the processors are not, unfortunately it's a common fact that nikon , although they use sony sensors, gets better high iso results than some of the sony's get
