Inspired by the "Can I cut in line..etc " thread

But pro-all-Guest. Since your issue has nothing to do with 'too many people in line/antsy kids' (an extremely common objection), next time you go to Walt Disney World, try this experiment at ONE counter service meal: have the whole family get in line; order food; pay for food; obtain food; go get table. You WILL still find a table, easily.

Please do not do that. I for one do not want to be line with mom, dad and their 5 kids.:scared1:

You know that the family will get to the front of the line and have no idea what they want to order. A few of the kids will be running around playing and bumping into other guest while mom and dad stare at the menu board.

Nope, one parent take the kids and grab a table while the other parent places the order and pick up the food.:thumbsup2

I agree charging $0.99 a refill in the parks with a refillable mug would be great. I like what Six Flags does (except the part about having to store it in a locker for $1 at each ride ), it is $12.99 for the refillable cup with free refills the entire day that you purchased the cup and then $0.99 refills the rest of the season. If they sold a mug/cup like that for the parks I'd gladly pay that price and would probably drink more soda than the 1 a day I usually get at a CS meal during lunch or dinner (when not on the dining plan).

But it sounds like the poster I thought I was addressing does exactly that, successfully. She said her husband takes the kids to get food while she takes the stroller and gets a table. Then, when they come back with the food, she goes to get hers. It sounds like this works (guessing that if it didn't, they's have a different system). I thought I was addressing her when I suggested my one-meal experiment where they all get in line together, all get their food together, and all proceed to an empty table together. I truly believe they will find empty tables.

Wasn't asking her to change her family's entire procedure on a permanent basis. Just once. And ONLY IF there's not a child in the stroller when she brings it to the table :teeth:

Regarding the CS and table claiming - I have to admit we do this each trip. I send dh and dd to claim a table and get out of the line area. I know what we need to order and how to do it quickly / efficiently. It's so much easier not having extra people in line.

That said if Disney had a waiting area that dh and dd could wait in (prior to getting a table with me) that would work out just fine for us. As long as they were out of the way of the line area. Problem is, of course CS eating places are designed with 'x' amount of room for the line and the rest of the place is literally tables - there's just no spare room to wait out of the way.

Edited to add: For lunch we aim to be at the CS restaurant by 11 am to get in/ out before the crowd, for dinner we eat at the resort and seating isn't an issue....and we never eat CS for breakfast - it's either in the room or TS.

Only a few counter service restaurants do this; only at very busy times of the year; and only at peak dining times. Unless all those conditions came together, you likely wouldn't experience it anyway - but if you did, yes, WDW does provide enough waiting area for the rest of your party :teeth: and it apparently does work.

I guess that's why I've never experienced it! I usually stand in line with my oldest, who helps me carry everything back to the table, while everyone else finds a table and sits. I cannot imagine trying to go through the CS line with 3 walking kids and a double stroller!

I had no idea that going to a table with my DS and our stroller and going ahead and getting the napkins, straws, salt, ketchup and anything else we needed, while my DH wants in line to order the food was an issue. I'm all about making the best use out of my time while at Disney, and that is one of the reasons why I do this and the other reason is because waiting in those lines are compact enough without having a stroller that you are dealing with at the same time. So I guess I've been upsetting people every time we have gone to Disney.

As far as the mug, I would pay more to be able to refill it at the parks for sure. Great idea, but I doubt Disney would ever do it, they would lose too much money from bottles coke sales.

I totally don't get the rule with the land and no strollers, but then having to show your child to the CM at Soarin'. I lucked out the two trips I did this, they believed me and I didn't have to take my DS out of the stroller take him all the way down there and all the way back up and back in the stroller.

And I have to say it, I don't see where people would get upset with me if I elect to wait in line to see Mickey in the animation studio area, while my DH and DS play on the computer games to help pass time and keep him from going a little crazy in line. I'm not saying we do this with all lines, most the times my DS is right there waiting along with us. He is actually really good at waiting in lines now. But sometimes it's just easier for him to be doing something active, since it is so close. I also make sure they are with me when there are like still 4 or 5 families in front of me. We don't take up any more time than if I was taking pictures with Mickey, the only difference is that now it's my DS. Now I can see if a whole group of people met up with me, but we are talking about one kid here. I know I would rather a parent do this technique , than to have to wait in line with them and their child who is going crazy.

Same thing goes where if someone is in line and has to leave line with their child to go use the restroom, I don't care. I say go, I'll save your spot. It's not good for anyone to hold it in and the child won't be able to enjoy the ride as well if they have to use the restroom. Now I'm sure there are people who use this excuse to cut line, but we can't hold it against everyone. Sometimes you have to go.

Can we go back to the refillable beer mug idea? :drinking1

That seemed to have a lot less crankiness associated with it...

:hippie:

On the older kids in a stroller issue...I personally don't care if you and your spouse are taking turns pushing each other in an oversized stroller, as long as you don't run over me while doing so.

I know this one is not a popular opinion, but I'll say it anyway. I have 4 kids, now mostly grown, but we spent many, many hours in WDW when they were younger. We entered a line together and if necessary, we left it together and then re-entered it. All still together. Amazingly, once all the kids learned that, (even as very young kids), you would be amazed at how rarely any of them needed a potty break while waiting in line. On the other hand, when asked before getting in line, they were usually willing to "try". I never say anything when it happens and I always let people cut ahead of me to rejoin their family, but I will admit that I always wonder if no one has that family policy we had anymore.

Great Thread guys. Doesn't the walkway inside the Land eventually come up to either a stairway or escalator to get down to the Soarin and Living with the Land level? That would be a real dangerous bottle neck with the Rope-Drop stampede.

I totally agree, a stroller in there would be dangerous and a bottle neck. Hence why all CM's should do like the ones I had and just take my word for it and believe that my child is upstairs. I know people will buck the system and take advantage of it, but I always hated it in school when we all got in trouble for what one person did. So if I was a CM, I would tend to believe the parent and give them the rider switch w/o seeing the child at Soarin' I mean surely can't the CM, just look at any adult at Disney and be able to tell the parents from the non parents. Us parents are the ones pulling our hair out. :) Just kidding.

The only rule I think is actually silly is the walking people to EE at opening. It creates a lot of pushing and shoving that wouldn't happen if the people who wanted to be first could just run ahead of everyone else and leave those of us who don't want to push and shove in their dust.

It was better before they started this rope-walk crap.

Well, look at it this way. When Walt Disney World Management determines it is or could be a problem, they have procedures in place to control the situation. At times of day/year when they don't feel there's a problem, they DON'T institute those controls.

So, if you go to Pecos Bill's tomorrow (April 3, 2010) for lunch at 12:15, don't be at all surprised if there are Cast Members assigned to controlling the seating area and not allowing anyone without purchased food in their possession to be seated. If you go to Cosmic Ray's at 8:30 on a Wednesday evening in September, don't be at all surprised if your family can sit wherever they want as soon as you all enter, while you go get the food. :)

Survival of the fittest or the fastest. I say why not. What I think though is funny is the people who are so gung ho and fast and trying to be there first when it's a slower season and really getting there that fast is not that big of a deal. So I have to wait 6 minutes as opposed to 5 minutes, big deal. That is unless you are going to see the Fairies where just a few minutes of wasted time of leisurely walking can cost you an extra 30 minutes to an hour in line. Then it's every man, woman and child for themselves.

Thanks, you make me feel better. Maybe I haven't been upsetting anyone, because we rarely are there when it's packed. I strive to go when it's a slower season.

I TOTALLY agree with the refillable mug thing...I live in Southwest Missouri, and we have a very large, popular theme park here that allows you to bring in past year's mugs and ALL refils - no matter what - are a dollar. :thumbsup2

You must be talking about Silver Dollar City. Our family visited the Springfield/Branson area in 2006 and absolutley LOVED it and that theme park! The fresh lemonade was the best!
