Inspired by the "Can I cut in line..etc " thread

I agree with refillable mugs and the saving a table while one person gets the food. I cannot see how this is rude-it's actually the smart, efficient thing to do.:confused3

Also not a big fan of automatically giving up my bus seat-although I've done it, especially for the elderly.

On the older kids in a stroller issue...I personally don't care if you and your spouse are taking turns pushing each other in an oversized stroller, as long as you don't run over me while doing so.

I know this one is not a popular opinion, but I'll say it anyway. I have 4 kids, now mostly grown, but we spent many, many hours in WDW when they were younger. We entered a line together and if necessary, we left it together and then re-entered it. All still together. Amazingly, once all the kids learned that, (even as very young kids), you would be amazed at how rarely any of them needed a potty break while waiting in line. On the other hand, when asked before getting in line, they were usually willing to "try". I never say anything when it happens and I always let people cut ahead of me to rejoin their family, but I will admit that I always wonder if no one has that family policy we had anymore.

I go with my niece and I made a rule that when one of us has to go, the other one tries. I didn't want to spend most of the day in the bathroom. We did make a second trip to the bathroom one time not 5 min after leaving it. Yes, I did try to go again-just to prove the point that the rule wasn't just for her.

I can see how waiting at the table with kids is efficient use of time and saves extra people waiting in line. I however don't get to do this as I travel with my young niece so where I go she goes. Maybe I should bring the stroller inside, park it by a table and then get my food so I don't have to search for seating when I have my food.

I think one of the things they try to weed out is a family holding a table, while one of them is getting "food".
Then the food runners shows up with a few drinks 12 straws and the rest of the family pulls out the lunch packets they brought with them.

Just for the record, since I didn't mention the table holding thing. It makes perfect sense to me. To the poster I quoted, you're right...it doesn't work for everyone.

I am just so agreeable tonight. I must need some sleep. :lovestruc

I quoted you because I had to do something simiar with my niece. I had nobody to hold our spot if she had to go to the bathroom-not that I would think that's okay. Sorry if I confused you!

I travel at times that the CS places aren't too bad to find seating. With the time change we usually eat at off times.

Well, yeah, that's kind of shady. But otherwise, if they are purchasing food from the CS..there's no need to have everyone in line. That's just silly.

Except now they have a CM standing there directing and not allowing "table saving"

At least some of them do.

It bugs me that they won't allow it. Another anti-family move by WDW IMHO.

Seriously?? This is an actual rule or whatever at WDW? Well you learn something new everyday. Well I guess I'll be guilty of breaking this one, at least at the resort. Now that DD is old enough to find and sit at a table while I get our food, that's what we do. Many of the park CS places are too big for that. I'd wander around for who knows how long looking for her!

I understand that, at very busy times, there are families with food on their trays with no where to sit. and other families at tables with no food. the families WITH food could have finished eating and been done and gone, before the family at the empty table even gets their food. I guess that's why disney had CMS at those locations, to control this.
if there IS no CM controlling this, then it is up to you. maybe mom wants to sit down with the 1 year old and feed him the baby food while dad and the 5 year old gets the other food. then mom can actually enjoy her meal!
if we "have" a table, and there is room, we "let" others sit with us. why not? it's not a private thanksgiving dinner, after all. once Dh and I asked if we could sit at 2 em[pty seats at a table and were told "no". it was their table... oh well.
It's a matter of planning. people who don't plan always get mad at those who do. just like those who show up behind you 5 minutes before spectromagic and insist that you let them in front of you, because their kids are shorter than your kids. or illuinations. if you stake out a spot an hour ahead of time, people will come up at the last minute and tell you their kids can't see. ok, so you let the little kids stand in front of you. then mom says "I have to be WITh her, she's too little to be out of my sight" or "I want to be WITH him, I want to see his face". next thing you know, you wasted an hour staking out a spot for some strangers whose dad's big head is right in front of you, cause he snaked his way in your line of sight to talk to the child and point out what he should look at. (no good deed goes unpunsihed) you started out letting the children in front of you, next mom and dad and teenager and aunt Edna are ALL in front of you. and you wasted an hour staking out a spot.
once I saw an open spot. we went to claim it, and dad said "I am saving this for my wife and kids. great dad! that's the way to do it! we helped him make sure no one else "muscled" their way in, he waited a long time, as we did, mom kept the kids occupied doing something else, and 15 minutes before the show they showed up, we stood behind the kids. they didn't EXPECT to show up at the last minute and say "they're little!!!!"
at a CS restaurant, if mom has to breastfeed one, while dad feeds another babyfood, (while the older kids eat), then mom and dad finally get to eat their COLD food, it will take more time anyway. and I, for one, would rather not have all those kids jamming up the line and when it's time to order, trying to decide what they want. It's so much easier for them to be seated, and dad brings them what HE decided they are eating. (and he's not chasing one kid who ran out of line, while mom is trying to pacify the crying baby, and the third kid all of a sudden decides they don't want chicken nuggets after all and has a tantrum.) because that's what kids do. they're not bad, they're just kids. he could tell you for 2 hours, he wants chicken nuggets, and when you get to the front of the line, he wants a hot dog!... mom and little ones are at the table, dad brings the food, problem solved. we're all happy!;)

And as for pool hopping...if you ask the lifeguards themselves THEY say it is allowed. I've never done it, due to the whole wet suit issue, but Disney allows it. I asked last fall when my friend and I were staying at different resorts, and neither resort had a problem with it. The concierge at her resort even suggested we go try out the pool at "another" resort.

I think you were given incorrect information, the pool rules sign does say the pool is for the use of resort guests only, (I borrowed this picture from another thread).

I have read that DVC members can pool hop. I can also see that they would say it is okay to swim at your friends resorts pool since they are a guest, but loading up your bags and heading over from a value to Poly to spend the day at their pool doesn't seem right.

I agree with previous posters that I don't know why someone would want to schlep over to another resort and change in the bathroom just to use a different pool. It also doesn't seem fair to the people who paid to stay at the resort and end up with a full pool and no chairs because pool from other resorts/hotels have crashed their pool.:goodvibes

Well, look at it this way. When Walt Disney World Management determines it is or could be a problem, they have procedures in place to control the situation. At times of day/year when they don't feel there's a problem, they DON'T institute those controls.

So, if you go to Pecos Bill's tomorrow (April 3, 2010) for lunch at 12:15, don't be at all surprised if there are Cast Members assigned to controlling the seating area and not allowing anyone without purchased food in their possession to be seated. If you go to Cosmic Ray's at 8:30 on a Wednesday evening in September, don't be at all surprised if your family can sit wherever they want as soon as you all enter, while you go get the food. :)

We went to Pecos Bill's on Wed.(3/31) and they had the guys there telling you you had to have your food and entire party with you to go in to get a table, not a big deal, my kids and I waited near there, while my husband ordered, and then we all went to sit down together!

Good to know about the table thing. I have been there several times (but not in the last 10 years) and I had no idea there is an issue about this now.

I will keep that in mind.

DS and I eat early to avoid the crowds so we don't have a problem getting a table. When we leave I try to watch for people with trays looking around with that lost look so that I can give them our table. I feel bad for people who have food and can't find anywhere to sit.

Or to borrow something that was mentioned in another post....they pull out their crock pot.

The sign doesn't say "unless you're a DVC owner" anywhere on it , either. So by this theory, it would be perfectly fine for someone "paying" for a deluxe resort to go swim in a pool at a moderate resort (not that they would want to rub elbows with those beneath them), but not vice-versa.

What I CLEARLY said in my post is, DISNEY allows it. It is just a Dis "rule" and for some reason one of the things that gets quickly into a fury. Just ask the lifeguard on duty and they will tell you the same thing. Now I know they have the right to say no if it is a super crowded day, but in all my trips to Disney I have never been in a pool that was TOO crowded, and I never let the small things ruin my vacation!

DVC members can pool hop to OTHER DVC resorts with the exception of AKV and BCV (SAB).

At least that is what we were told when signing papers.

I love the thought of using refillable mugs anywhere at WDW! What does it cost them, 5 cents every time it's filled? No way most people would ever drink Disney out of house and home. It would also save on disposable cups, think of all the space they could save in a landfill! I don't buy that it would be grossly dirty - I use the same cup to drink out of all day at home, and I don't wash it every time I fill it. :confused3

Actually, DVC owners can pool hop to ANY pool at ANY WDW resort, except AKV, BLT and SAB (YC/BC), subject to availability. This is explicitly allowed. I'd get the exact wording from the member site, but it appears that Disney has broken it again...

I wouldn't refill my mug at the park ~ I know my DH would though.

Yuck! It would get all sticky with soda remnants from dried up soda.

I assume at home you don't walk around with the cup in 80 degree weather around all day.

You would pretty much have to keep it full the whole time or at least rinse it out each time you empty it.

Loved being able to use the cups at the pool though. :) Rinse and reuse!

The DVC information is correct and you can find it in your packet and, I think, the yearly Perks pamplet they send out.

Back to original topic: there should be some type of drivers training and/or proven medical need for those bloody electric wheelchairs! I have seen SO many unattentive  drivers it is pathetic and I have also seen more than one kid get ran over:scared1:! THOSE are out of control!!!:sad2:

I can understand the "no saving tables" thing at really busy times, but any other time I think it's ridiculous to say part of a party can't go get a table while another member of their party gets the food. Of course I can remember going to Sunshine Seasons and being unable to find a table because half of them were filled with people who either had picnics they brought from home or who weren't eating at all, but just reading their guide book and resting. That is annoying and I find it rude, so I think any rule that prevents that behavior is a good thing.

What I CLEARLY said in my post is, DISNEY allows it. It is just a Dis "rule" and for some reason one of the things that gets quickly into a fury. Well, yes, that's what you clearly said in your post, but it is still incorrect. The lifeguard you spoke to might allow it but Disney does not. Obviously it is a Disney rule rather than just a "Dis" rule; that's why it's listed with the other rules on the sign that gilsan posted. Apparently the lifeguard you talked to didn't plan to enforce the rule, but I've seen other lifeguards enforcing it many times in my trips to WDW. In all my trips to Disney I have been to pools that were too crowded many times, and I'm always glad when the Disney lifeguards enforce the Disney rule about pool hopping. You might think it's a silly rule, and you might have found someone who doesn't enforce it, but it's still a rule.
