Price of the "extra bun" has soared!

One previous poster touched on something I always think about whenever I see any type of "food sharing" thread.
Often times it has nothing to do with wanting to "cheat" Disney, but more that there are lots of us out there that simply don't want to waste food! I cringe at throwing away a huge portion of a meal. I've never asked for a second bun or anything, but as I am a light eater (especially in Disney heat) and my tiny 4yo is full after three bites, I have no problem sharing with her or sharing one meal between my 4 and 7 yer olds for no other reason that to cut down on waste. I'm also not a soda drinker and my kids are allowed only non-caffinated and only once in a while as a treat, so sharing that is a no brainer for us as well.
In the end Dis still gets plenty of our money. Even with the dining plan there is still more than enough oop spending on treats and extras during the day.

Oh, and on another note, as someone with a lot of food service experience, Disney pays about 3 cents for each $3 soda you buy...they aren't hurting. Itr's a well known fact that the #1 money maker in any fast food situation is the soda. Virtually pure profit.

Isn't it funny how we have a whole thread focused on a hamburger bun reportedly costing $3.15, but nobody has yet commented that two people have purchased the bun, in the past 2 days, for about 80 cents, which is what it "used" to cost?! Hmmmm.... wonder what's up??

And folks, "bringing your own buns" is a joke... we all ALWAYS bring our "buns" everywhere we go!! :lmao:
(perhaps the smilie should be called "lmbo")

A customer who purchases a double burger and an extra bun instead of two single burgers is only doing it to save money. Forget the french fries argument, Disney will sell you a burger without fries.

Well, which shade of Green are we talking about and what is your stance on Teal??
All shades - but teal reigns supreme, of course! Teal green, not teal blue - and there IS a difference!

Well personally I would just cut it in half, so I guess I agree about the extra bun.

personally, I would get the extra bun. Half a double burger is not the same as a double split into 2 buns.

Half is too think and not nearly enough real estate for the toppings I require (not want, require :lmao:)

I certainly don't have a problem with a family sharing a meal or several meals amongst them. I never eat the # of calories for a meal at home that come in most of the CS meals. This past Sept my DH and I were on the Free Dining Plan and would get a "big" breakfast meal from the food court to split. Then we would get a sandwich meal at lunch to split. We can certainly afford to purchase any extra meals that we might need; however, we don't need the extra calories and I was brought up in a big family that did not waste food!!!

As for the bun business ... WDW gets a lot of money from anyone who is on their property. If they choose to charge more for an extra bun, I'm okay with that. I'm okay if someone wants to bring their own bun.

Life is all about choices. What is your priority is not always mine.

I can afford to stay at a deluxe resort, but choose not to because I view the extra expense as a "waste" of money. By going value, I can then go on more trips each year.

Anyway, it is a personal choice. I don't have any issues with WDW countering the issue by raising the prices on an extra bun.

I also just don't understand how a family sharing meals is "gross" ... but that's just me. I tell my kids all the time that we have the same germs, so what's the big deal. LOL!

::yes::This is what I don't get... aside from not getting the whole "just order a single burger, if that's all you want", of course :rotfl:. Disney sells extra buns. They can charge any price they choose. Guests can pay the price or not. Simple.

Using Liberty Inn: a double cheeseburger is $8.59; with the reported $3.15 bun, it's $11.74, divided by two is $5.87 each. A cheeseburger is $5.89.

I posted on here before about the couple I saw at Cosmic Ray's a few years ago. The man ordered a burger and fries and two cups of water. His wife didn't order anything. We just happened to get seats right next to each other. The husband left his wife at the table while he went up and piled condiments on his burger. When he got back he placed his burger and fries on a big pile of napkins, gave his wife the little paper tray thingy his burger came in and told her to go get hers. She made three trips to the condiment bar filling that little tray up with free salad fixings. What was really funny was that the poor woman reached for one of his fries. He slapped her hand, and told her to leave his fries alone. All she got for lunch that day was a free cup of water and what she stole from the fixings bar:rotfl::mad:

Poor gal... sounds like he only took her along to WDW since he found out at the last minute that he had to kennel his dog at the gate.

For 4.99 you can get a kid's meal with hamburger (including the bun), fries and drink. When it is wicked hot this is more than enough food for me. I know Disney says for guests 9 and under but when I'm paying OOP I'm going to pay for the amount of food I will eat. I hate throwing food away!!

Now this post should make this thread more interesting and last another 5 pages. popcorn::

I see no problem ordering a kid's meal, it comes with fruit and fries.

I could care less how people eat, I think getting an extra bun is silly, but hey whatever floats your boat.

As for bringing your own buns, more power to ya.

If you need to do this to afford your Disney vacation, do what you need to do, no judgement here.

There's nothing wrong with an adult ordering a kids' meal - will take more than that to get this thread closed... although I did at first think the above post said it came with fruit and flies.

I get CS kids' meals for snacks relatively often.

Nor is it against any rules to get the extra bun if Disney is willing to sell you one.

Although the guy at Cosmic Ray's who makes his wife eat the condiments...dude, get her a bun.

I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but If I have to go to Disney and worry about splitting a soda or buying an extra bun to save money then I would be rethinking a Disney Vacation. Why not wait another year to go, and save more money.

This is just absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have done that. I knew my kids were not going to eat all of their food, I wasn't very hungry, so I just had some of theirs after making sure they got enough. What was I going to do with the left overs of a full size meal? Just seemed wasteful when I knew I wouldn't eat it.

I can see sharing a meal with someone. But eating what is left-over from 4 different people's plates? Ick. I share food all the time, but the idea of eating clean-up for the whole family just strikes me as gross.

Not to mention if there were too many different food combos going into my stomach, it wouldn't be very happy with me!:crazy2:

I don't disagree with you at all, in fact I agree; but there are those who will make a point of saying if your over 9 and ordering from the kids menu you are depriving them (Disney) of their fair profit. :)

If that were the case, they would require proof that the person eating the meal was under 10 years old, and they don't.

Depriving Disney of theirr profit? First of all a ticket sell of $90.00 just to get into the gate is profit. Second they pay 3 cents per coke. They have a deal where they buy their syurp from the food supplier. They buy their bottled drinks from the local coke distributor and then gets about a $13.00 dollar discount per case for being exclusive.

You can ask for a single burger and they will make it for you. I've often asked since I cannot eat a double burger.

Profit has nothing to do with it at quick service restaurants, you are paying for a smaller portion, in reality a kids meal at WDW costs WDW more than an adult meal.

At fast food establishments it is fine for an adult to order a kid's meal.

If you ask the cashier, if you, as an adult, can order a kids meal, they will tell you yes.
