TCD is proud to be an American!-July 4th at the Fort!

Moving along . . .

We had watched fireworks from the Contemporary Resort on July 2. And, from the beach at the Polynesian Resort on July 3rd, and now here we were at the Fort for the 4th.

The audio played just fine, maybe even better than it had at the Poly, and then the fireworks began.

Because Discovery Island blocks the view of the castle from FW's beach, you can just see the higher up fireworks from here. And, the EWP boats must have been over at the Poly again, because they weren't here.

But, the fireworks were still good:

July4th2010577.jpg

July4th2010580.jpg

And, look at how many people were crowded on to the beach! (this is looking toward the dock- you can see the MK boat pulled up there):

July4th2010591.jpg

I would say that there were more people here for these fireworks than there were on New Year's Eve.

More fireworks:

July4th2010594.jpg

I really like the star-shaped fireworks:

July4th2010622.jpg

July4th2010623.jpg

And here's the grand finale.

Not as impressive as from Poly's beach.

But still impressive:

July4th2010624.jpg

July4th2010625.jpg

And that was it!

I thought that we might have trouble getting out of the temporary golf cart parking area, but we didn't. Everybody moved along, and there was no problem at all.

When we got back to our site, we decided to go and get some ice cream from the Meadow Trading Post before it closed. We decided to bike over there.

Here is one of the TCD twins heading back toward the 1500 loop. The pool is in the background;

July4th2010630.jpg

Note the George Washington tat on her face.

I forgot to mention they had free tattoos down at the Freedom Beach Bash.

Free.

At Disney.

You don't see that every day.

We hung around the Fort for the rest of the evening. There were some packs of golf carts looping. But, not as many as I have seen before. Overall, it was much more subdued around the Fort than I had expected. I didn't hear anybody shooting off illegal fireworks, and things were pretty much dead by midnight.

And that was it for the 4th.

I was up early for my morning patrol on the 5th.

I took this shot of the Settlement Trading Post sign:

July4th2010634.jpg

And, I did some looking around down the trail between the Settlement Trading Post and the 300 loop. There is a lot of space along the lake here:

July4th2010635.jpg

July4th2010636.jpg

I know there has been talk of late about possible new campsites in the old River Country area. But, if they were going to put new campsites on Bay Lake someplace, this would be the logical place to do it.

Over on the 1300 loop, I saw this finalist for a TCD Real Man of Genius Award:

July4th2010637.jpg

July4th2010638.jpg

I don't know exactly what was going on here, but it impressed me.

Here are some horses practicing pulling the wagon:

July4th2010639.jpg

July4th2010640.jpg

And, then I stumbled upon another mystery.

This was also in the group camping area.

Over by the canal between the group camping area and the 900 loop. On the group camping side of the canal I saw this:

July4th2010642.jpg

July4th2010643.jpg

July4th2010644.jpg

July4th2010646.jpg

July4th2010648.jpg

What do you make of this?

It looks like it has something to do with the blue tanks in River Country.

My initial impression was that this was a communication device to communicate with the mother ship.

What do you think it is?

I was able to solve this mystery, too.

So, I'll tell you what it is after everyone has a chance to guess.

Better call the po po narcotics bureau. Its one of those special lights used to grow pot attached to a watering system probably laced with special fertilizer. Whenever there is a cloudy day, the sensor trips the battery and the special uv ray emitting diode kicks in and helps sprout the seeds. Come back in a few days and you might see some decent buds. YEAH BABY! Medical Marijuana for sale at the Trading Post. :hippie:

July4th2010513.jpg

To keep in theme Disney put this up But it's purpose is to keep vehicles from breaking the water pipe

Alas. I think Discamper might be right about this. But, there isn't a whole lot of threat of vehicular traffic in this area. And, what's with the fastener on the one pole?

I'll bet they have him wrapped even tighter than he realizes!!! The first night we met up, I just saw the back of her head and KNEW it was her...those kids have some beautiful ringlets!!! And the fact that they can "hang" with DAD and still produce smiles like that, well....that says ALOT for your parenting skills....dem girls LOVE dem some Dad!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks, Rog.

I try.

So can you do the Hoedown Throw Down?

If so, brush up on it.

You will be a big hit on your cruise.

But not with your daughters.

What is that white rope on the ground. It looks like the deer rock may be set out as bait and that rope is some sort of snare trap. Just set your foot in the rope and then... Gotcha. I would be careful around this camp site.

Hmmm.

You might be right.

Maybe it's a bear trap.

Now, let's take a look at the guesses for the latest mystery:

A home-made bug zapper?

Nope.

Iranian Radon Dispersal Device?

That is a really good guess, Dave.

But, No.

And, if you don't mind my saying, you are a bit obsessed with Iranian Nuclear Scientists. Aren't you?

ET phone hooome.

Looks like a new home brewing contraption .:confused3

Another good guess!

But, no.

HIPPIES!

Of course!!!

Isn't it always the hippies?

But, this time it isn't.

So, good guess.

But, no.

an electricution unit for errant animals or wayward teenagers who park their GC on TOP of the rails

Another good guess.

And another no.

I'll bet it has something to do with the turnbuckle on the hitching posts by the water line... popcorn::

Now that is some good thinkin' there!

But you left out the possessed duck.

And, as far as I can determine, there is no connection.

So, nope.

Some type of still to make Mickey Mouse Moonshine?;)

No, again.

mosquito trap :confused3

Ding.

Ding.

Ding.

We have a winner.

This mystery was easy to solve.

All I had to do was read the sign:

July4th2010645.jpg

But, just to be sure . . .

You see there is a phone number on there, right?

And it says to call if you have any questions.

I double dog dare someone to call.

And ask if it has anything to do with the Iranian Nuclear Fission program

Just in case.

Well, it sounds like you are plenty qualified.

So, you should go for it!

How are you going to get caught?

The Disney po-po doesn't have a boat on the canal.

So, you can easily get away in your canoe.

How old is your Rocky?

TCD[/QUOTE]

Problem is I won't be there until late November. By then, there's no telling what measures the Disney po-po will have in place to keep folks like us out of Golden Oak mischief. I'd still like to give it a whirl and see what happens though!

My Rocky is three months old. We actually have his dad too. Both are the reddish-fawn w/ white. The dad is massive, so now we're just waiting to see if the Rockster grows to be the same size as his papa. In all, I've had the privilege of owning three Boxer's. All of them have been/were great with my kids, and are such smart dogs. BTW, both of them are spoiled rotten!!!

These do look like they could be hitching posts, but I have never seen horses in this area. And, they are pretty close to the water. I don't think they would tie up horses here.

TCD

Don't forget there used to be Fort Security on horseback.

There's a pic fairly early on in the Ignore this thread.

Indeed you're daughters and their smiles are beautiful! I would be willing to bet the farm they have their dad wrapped around their little pinky fingers! ;)

Loving this TR. Even if there were no hippie sightings.

TCD do you think I was going to let my car sit in the 1700 loop with all those lime green Mickey ear party animals

Neat. My Rocky was born on February 28, so he is about 4 1/2 months old now. He is also a reddish-fawn color, which we had not seen before on a boxer. Rocky is our third boxer, too! We love boxers too.

TCD, I can't tell you how much that cracked me up.:rotfl:
Someday you'll have to bring us newbies up to speed about this thing with Hippies.

There you go, Magicbus, Carol had my back.

Thanks Carol.

On my Spring Break trip to Grayton Beach, I ran into accordion playing hippies.

I guess it has become a running joke.

The thing is, I really have no problem with hippies.

Except the ones who take drugs and murder people.

And the ones that play the accordion badly.

Don't forget there used to be Fort Security on horseback.

Good point about the horse-back security patrols.

Maybe those are hitching posts after all.

Thanks for confirming that was your car.

I feel better now.

After I let the air out of the tires, and lit the bag of dog poop on the porch, I got to thinking- What if someone else has a Ferrari at the Fort besides DisCamper?

Here is how they transports it.
caravanap260806_600x426.jpg

Wow!

I didn't know DisCamper had a new RV!

Nice!

I guess he will have a big garage put on his home at Golden Oak.

Or maybe he will buy two lots, and use one for his RV shed.:confused3

Today is the day.

That this trip report will be finished.

I just have two more batches of photos to post.

And, that will be it.

So, let's go!

Long, long, ago, at the beginning of this trip report, I said that I would be posting photos of something that had been at the Fort for a long time, but never photographed.

I hope you didn't get your hopes up too high.

But, this is where I will post the photos.

Here they come . . .

While patrolling the 1200 loop one morning, I noticed that an animal had walked across the concrete on this pad before it had set:

July4th2010696.jpg

In all my trips to the Fort, I had never noticed that before.

What kind of tracks are those?

I don't think it was a raccoon.

Not impressed?

Well, as I went around the 1200 loop, I noticed footprints on some of the other pads as well:

July4th2010697.jpg

July4th2010698.jpg

July4th2010736.jpg

Have you ever noticed this before?

What gives?

Did a herd of animals invade the 1200 loop years ago when the pads were poured?

Or is this some good old Disney imagineering?

If you ever look around the Wilderness Lodge, you will see this type of thing.

But, I never knew that it was done a the Fort.

Well, it was.

And, the Fort had it first.

So there.

Since we are near the end, it is time for me to reveal the secret behind the strange yellow and red tents in the group camping area. I visited there again on Tuesday morning, July 6th.

This time, the group was there.

Still not a single car.

But, lots and lots of people.

Here they are:

July4th2010737.jpg

July4th2010738.jpg

Here is a better look:

July4th2010740.jpg

July4th2010741.jpg

They all seemed to be gathered around something.

And they were screaming and chanting.

In a foreign language.

Relax, Dave, it wasn't Iranian.

At least I don't think so.

This time I noticed that they did have some camping equipment outside or their tents:

July4th2010742.jpg

None of it looked like bomb-building supplies.

I moved to another vantage point and took these shots:

July4th2010743.jpg

July4th2010744.jpg

July4th2010745.jpg

In this shot, you can see that these people are clearly saluting a flag, which was about to be raised. And it is not an American flag:

July4th2010746.jpg

This is one of my earlier photos:

July4th2010488-1.jpg

Remember I told you to look at that thing hanging up there?

That it was a clue?

Well, I had the girls run that flag through the golf cart's on board computer.

And we came up with this match:

co-lgflag.gif

From the CIA website.

Well, there was our answer.

That is an Iranian flag!

Not really.

I am just messing with Dave.

That is the flag a South American nation.

I verified this when one of the leaders from this group approached me. She had ditched the flag raising ceremony to have a smoke. She said that this was a group of Boy Scouts. From Colombia.

The country.

In South America!

They had flown to the US, and had spent a week at a Boy Scout Camp in Lake Wales (near WDW) named Flaming Arrow, and now were spending a week at WDW. Those were their tents, which they brought with them from Colombia. They did have some cooking equipment around, which was on loan from a local Boy Scout of America troop.

So that group is the Scouts de Colombia.

Pretty cool.

Were they younger Scouts (as in under 11), or older Scouts (11-17)??

The reason I ask, cause if they are older, I imagine they are also heading towards Fort AP Hill Virginia as now the National Boy Scout Jamboree is in full swing. (It was moved to this year for the 100th birthday of Scouting) and this is the last time it will be at Fort AP Hill.

I was on staff at the 2005 Jambo, and had had ambitious plans to attend again this year, but since I got the camper, Army tent camping in 100+ degree heat with no AC and minimal electricity (as in we blew a circuit every day) just didn't seem so appealing any more.

COLUMBIA??? Home of drug cartels? Are they saluting the drug lord? :scared1:

Sorry for profiling but are they cooking up some cocaine? Maybe making brownies? :hippie:
