Foods I wished they still made

Viennetta. Supposedly it's still around under another brand name (it used to be made by Breyers) but I haven't seen it in any form in years. We thought we were really posh when mom brought a Viennetta home when we were kids. :rotfl2:

I love Vienette - we can buy it in Australia under brand name of Streets ice cream. Yum
We also have star bars & curly wurly bars (yum also)
I miss the polly waffle bar . Marshmallow surrounded by wafer & coated in chocolate. It was awesome

Wow, we're doing well in the UK. We have Curly Wurlys, Star Bars, Vienetta (2 varieties...vanilla and mint choc chip) and Chicken Tonight. We used to have a chocolate bar called Marathon, but it was the same as a Snickers bar.

The american thing that I miss the most is Minute Maid Orange Soda...the one they used to serve at Disney. I assume it disappeared because of the luminous orange colouring which was probably packed with additives!!

This thread is making me remember a whole bunch of my favourite childhood treats, like Vienetta and the paw shaped cheetos:thumbsup2 Another one I just remembered was the phantom ice cream bar with the gumball nose that could only be bought from the "dicky-dee" (the big ice cream cooler attached to the front of a bike). Those things were so good, they also had a badeball mitt shaped one with a gumball baseball but the phantom one was better.

Nabisco used to make these delicious swiss cheese crackers. I think they still make them in Canada, but they discontinued them in the U.S. several years ago.

YES!!!

Jell-o pudding pops! I don't care what they say...freezing the cups with a spoon in them is NOT the same.:rotfl:

Not even close :(

I agree with the Planters Cheese Balls! Another favorite of mine that I long for is Dunkaroos! I can taste them just thinking about them. :goodvibes

You can still get Dunkaroos here sometimes.

I'm so glad you said this! I couldn't for the life of me remember the name! My dad would give me tiny sliver and he and my mom would eat it all!!!:furious:

I really miss purple and green ketchup! It used to really gross my mom out, but my little sister and I would always ask for it. :rotfl:

How about the original fruit snacks? I think they were called Fun Fruits? They tasted much better than the ones they make now. They might have even come in yogurt covered?

Yes they were called Fruit Funs. They did taste better, my brother was obsessed with them! My mother still calls all fruit gummies "fruit funs".

Banana flips. It was a banana cake filled with banana creme folded in half. I haven't seen them in years.

Yessssss! So delicious. We just go to the corner store just for a banana flip!

This was the firsst thing that came to my mind when I saw this thread. I keep hoping they will make a come back.

I miss the Kraft Olive Pimento spread as well.

Opera creams - from Keebler. They were chocolate & vanilla sandwich cookies w lemon cream.

And I agree about Space Food Sticks and New York Seltzer

Kraft spaghetti dinner. i know it was just a box with some spaghetti and an envelope full of spices but I loved it! Used the last of my stash a while ago. Wish it would come back.

U-No Candy bar. Sometimes you can find it with classic candy. I also loved the McDonalds Steak, Egg, and Cheese bagel. I know it was a heart attack waiting to happen, but boy was it good!!

Still available at McD's in the NYC/LI area. Had one yesterday.

Oooh, yeah, Planters cheese balls, I'd forgotten all about those.

Kraft Olive Pimento Cheese Spread. The one that's just Pimento is NOT the same.

And I'm really going to date myself with these:
Jello 1-2-3! It made layers of different textures in the glass.

And does anyone remember Triangle Thins crackers? I think they were from Nabisco. I'm trying to remember exactly what they were like, maybe kind of like Sociables, but different - I just remember they were good.

Oh, and Hydrox cookies - I know they did an "anniversary" thing with these a couple of years ago, but I swear they were not as good as the ones I grew up with.

The Jello layers were very cool.

I remember the Charlie Chip man. He used to come in a big truck similar to a UPS truck....wow i'd forgotten all about that.

I loved those. Recently saw the cans in Shoprite, but it's not the same.

Ben and Jerry's Dastardly Mash ice cream. Chocolate ice cream with chocolate pieces, raisins, and pecans. It was like a chunky bar, but ice cream. :cool1:

Howard Johnson's Chicken Croquets with sauce. You used to be able to get them in the frozen food aisle.

Howard Johnson's Macaroni & Cheese
Howard Johnson's Toastees
Howard Johnson's Fried Clams
Howard Johnson's Chicken Croquettes

When I lived in Upstate NY we could get these items in the frozen food case. I loved them all, but especially the Toastees. They were like toastable corn bread shaped like a Pop Tart. Served with butter, and you were in heaven.

Whenever I ate at HoJo's I almost always ordered the fried clams. On occasion the croquettes. And always, their Pistashio Ice Cream for dessert.

Also, at their restaurants (we're talking 1960s here) the milk was dispensed from a big stainless steel box with a spigot. It sat on the back counter with the other drink dispensers. I was a kid and always got milk. I swear they added a little vanilla and sugar to the milk. Their milk was tasty like a milk shake. Over the decades I have fixed my glasses of milk this same way sometimes, and it's always good.

Charlie's Chips. They would deliver them to your door in a big canister.

A chip called Prontos.

Loved, loved Charlie Chips in the can. We had the same driver for years.

I miss Cheese Tidbits. Tibits? I can't remember. They were longer, but sort of along the lines of a Cheezit.

There used to be a seasoning pack that you would stir into tuna. Loved that stuff!
