OK I know that is Dickens not Disney but it fits this trip!
First let me give you the cast of characters.
There is DH Jim - he answers to that, Dad, Poppy, hey you and a few other things. He is a deputy sheriff for the City of Philadelphia and before that he was a Correctional Officer. He has reached the 30 year mark and can retire any time now.
Jim is not a huge Disney fan but this trip was his idea. The last 2 trips he went on were in August and he HATES the heat.
His favorite character is Donald Duck and he does a pretty decent impression.
His favorite park is wherever we are that day.
His favorite ride - he loves thrill rides but skips them because of me. I usually go on a couple to make him happy.
Then there is me - the author of the TR and major Disney fanatic. I am Lorrie although I answer to that, Sis (my brothers), Mom, Grandmom and until recently MeMo. Sadly my Mikey can speak much better and he no longer calls me MeMo.
My favorite park - I don't have one. I like them all for different reasons.
My favorite ride - MK easy It's A Small World. I know, I hear the groans but it is a sentimental favorite. I rode it at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Sadly it was closed this trip.
In EPCOT it's - Journey into the Imagination - again for sentimental reasons. My son has always loved this ride and when I am on it I see the biggest smile on his little face. He is 31 so not so little now.
In DHS - Star Tours - although I have grown to love Tower of Terror.
Animal Kingdom - Kilimanjaro Safari. I love animals and taking pictures and it is the perfect ride for both.
My favorite character is Grumpy. He is just misunderstood!
OK as I said this trip was Jim's idea. The last two trips he went on were in August with our daughters and their families. He loved going to see the grandkids faces as they experienced Disney for the first time but he HATES the heat. The week before we left we had a wind chill of 11 degrees and he went to work without a coat on. He tries to act like Scrooge but he loves Christmas so we chose the week after Thanksgiving. I priced airfare and he said NO WAY!!! If we go we are driving.
He also hates to make plans preferring to just go with the flow. I think this is because I used to be so OCD about trips trying to make sure they were perfect. Instead I made everyone miserable. I finally learned to relax and Disney has changed that. He does understand the need for some planning.
Jim also prefers to stay at a moderate resort. I surprised him by renting points and staying DVC. I went to a site recommended by a friend and we booked Saratoga Springs. I made plans and changed my plans. I almost cancelled the trip. I gave no argument about renting an ECV. A serious ankle injury that will most likely require surgery made me give in.
Jim wanted to take this trip for me. I have had a really bad year and he knew that I would totally distress at Disney, at least that was the plan. Just a sample of how stressed the year has been.
1) I fell in September 2012 and what was supposed to be a minor injury has turned into anything but that. I tore ligaments, cartilage, hyperextended my tendon and have had a series of stress fractures. I was in a boot or a brace for 14 months til I said no more. It's going to require surgery after the new year and I am not looking forward to it.
2) Right after the holidays last year I got a phone call from my mom that my aunt/godmother had been rushed to the hospital and that as soon as she stabilized she was being sent to Philadelphia from the Jersey shore, a 2+ hour ride by ambulance. It turned out that she had a serious heart condition that caused her to have a series of mini strokes. While she was in the hospital and then rehab here her housekeeper conned her into changing her will and signing everything over to her. Personally I think while she had free access to my aunt's house she snooped and found out what was in the will. I wanted her in jail but got out voted by my parents. We put the housekeeper on notice. Her response - to drive to Philly in my aunt's car and take her to a rehab down the shore. I was angry at the rehab center and the housekeeper but my aunt was where she wanted to be.
Fast forward a few months and we were told my aunt had very little time left. In late October my great uncle died. As I was looking up the funeral details for my uncle I started sobbing. My aunt had died over a month earlier and the housekeeper never called us. We had called my aunt but always got the machine so had no clue. The housekeeper also had my aunts will changed again right before she died leaving EVERYTHING to her. I still get really angry about it and really wanted to contest it but have decided to let it go. I know it's not what my aunt wanted but they are things. I am angry that I never got to say good bye. I do believe in karma and the housekeeper and her husband will pay one day.
3) My oldest granddaughter got very sick and was in the hospital and missed 3 weeks of school. She is doing better but will have to deal with what was wrong for the rest of her life. I would love to take the condition from her so she never has to deal with the pain. Unfortunately I can't and it hurts me that she has to suffer. It's not serious although it can become serious if not controlled.
4) In the space of one week my computer died, the transmission went in my car then the brakes. Spaced out a little it would have been a little easier to take.
Good and Bad - My youngest daughter found out she was expecting but she has an auto immune disorder so she is high risk. My SIL found out she was expecting identical twins then she miscarried one. At least she still had the surviving twin. And my cousin found out the at the age of 45 he and his wife were going to have the baby they never thought they would have. The baby has Down Syndrome so a little worrisome as she has a common heat defect that will need surgery when she is born. Still a blessing though.
It has been a terribly stressful year and my wonderful DH knew that Disney would be the perfect place to distress. At least that is the plan.
I took over 3000 pics so as soon as I can get them organized and loaded we will start my adventure. And yes the title sounds like my year but I promise you it explains the trip. So pull up a chair, grab a drink and join in. Fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy ride. And say hi! I don't bite, hard anyway and I would love the company.
