Best Fish Extender gift received?

Hi, I am totally new to this and I am in charge of the June 15 dream cruise (so no looking if you are on that cruise) by default but I think I am handling it ok

I have never been on a cruise let alone done the FE and this is a big surprise for my hubby's 30th birthday, so I thought it would be special for him to be part of the FE. It will be like getting presents for his bday all week.

Anyways I am rambling :rotfl:

My idea is to do recycled crayons in silicone molds: Mickey and pirate skulls for the boys along with a handmade coloring book of disney pirate stuff & for the girls Mickey and snowflake crayons. I want to do Olaf enjoying the Summer coloring books for the girls.

Does this sound good and how old are kids when they no longer want to color?
I don't want anyone to feel too old for their gift.

For 11+ on the girls, I thought nail polish with some disney decals might be fun

For the room, I thought photo mats and markers or disney dream christmas ornaments

Some Mickey ear Texas magnets and a Magnet with our itinerary, maybe a San Antonio postcard

For the women, Mickey and seashell soaps with various beachy scents
For the Men, a keychain with some "dream" related quote and our cruise and date on the back.

How does this sound? Also any ideas for teenage boys?:scratchin

Thanks.

I love this idea!

What are your thoughts on post cards to send from Castaway Cay?

I was wondering the same until I read somewhere that Bahamas postal service is quite slow. Some people have received theirs two months after their cruise while others never saw the cards returned. I'd keep the postcards, though!

If that's the case, then maybe you can send one to your kids reminding them what a wonderful time you had on the cruise as a family. I thought it might be neat to have them postmarked from Castaway.

And congratulations on the upcoming wedding!

I have also heard that Castaway Cay has its own special Disney postmark, so it's definitely worth trying!

And thank you! We're so excited.:cloud9:

My family participated for the first time in a FE Exchange in November and the kids really enjoyed it. We got some very nice gifts, some of which must have taken quite a bit of time to make. My favorite was an etched keychain personalized with the names of everyone in my family along with the cruise name and sail dates. We received a few cruise specific door magnets which we loved. I have several of them on my file cabinet at work now to remember the cruise. Several of the FE participants gave us magnetic bottle caps that had disney emblems on the caps. We plan on using them to decorate our Stateroom doors on our next cruise. We received quite a bit of candy but my kids were so full all the time from all the food on the cruise that we did not even touch any of it and ended up bringing alot of it home with us or leaving it for our Stateroom Attendants to enjoy. We got a small Disney Fantasy Christmas Tree ornament that we have hanging on our Christmas tree at home right now. My youngest daughter received a draw string beach bag with her name on it and she loved that. My DH and I did not receive any small bottles of alchol but that would have been a gift we would have enjoyed - maybe on our next cruise:)

Although my kids volunteered to assist me with deliverying our FE Gifts, it always seemed like they were involved in activities so I took it upon myself to deliver all of our FE Gifts myself. I got alot of exercise delivering them which I needed because of all the food I was consuming on the cruise:rotfl:. I would like to mention that 2 of the Staterooms on my FE list did not have a FE holder of any kind hanging outside their Staterooms and I was unable to deliver their gifts because my gift was breakable and I did not want to just leave it on the floor outside of their Staterooms. I cannot think of any reason why someone participating in a FE Exchange would not have a FE holder:confused3. I delivered my FE gifts on Day #4 so they should have had their FE holder in position by then. I went back by their rooms on Day #5 but still no holder in sight. I even left a message on their Stateroom phones explaining that I was trying to deliver their gifts but there was nothing for me to leave the gift in and if they called me, I would happily arrange somewhere to meet them to give them their gifts. I never received any call backs. Has anyone encountered this type of thing before when participating in a FE Exchange.

I brought more FE gifts than I needed so during the cruise I randomly selected small children, asked their parents permission to give them a gift because I had extras and enjoyed seeing the smiles on their faces when they opened the gifts. I plan on doing that again because I enjoyed doing it so much. Spreading a little Pixie Dust was fun:tink:
Enjoyed reading your post on FE's I'm going on 15+ cruise but this will be the first time I'm doing it! Looking forward to it on the Member's Cruise to Alaska! Great ideas! :)

Ok I absolutely love this FE idea! I am going on the Dvc member cruise to Alaska in May 2015! So first DCL cruise, first member cruise, and first trip to Alaska! Needless to day I am super excited!!!! I have been researching all the fun stuff (esp the FE info) recently and I need your opinion. I would love to participate in the FE for my cruise, however, I think we might be too old for it! Hahaha! All the guests in my cabin are adults! I'm going with my mother and aunt (both middle aged) and I am 28 years old. So I would absolutely love to participate but do you think people will not want to give because we are all adults? Let me know what you think!

I mean, you're never too old for Disney right? ;)
I'm on the member cruise too to Alaska! Did DCL Alaska back in 11 and loved it! I'm traveling with my youngest daughter 19 and her best friend. I would agree never too old for Disney! :) This is will the 1st time I've participated in the FE's! Lots of learning and reading!

I will be a single cruiser (3rd or 4th cruise) on the Star Wars Cruise 1/24/2016. The rest of the FE group range from married couples w & w/o kids, multi-generational families, a very nice mix. Is it the normal practice to give gifts to each person or a single gift for the family or group?

I LOVED getting postcards along with stamps to mail from CC. We sent one to ourselves that said, "having an amazing day here in CC, can't wait to be back in 2016". It did take about a month for us to receive it, but what a nice surprise when it arrived! That was a great FE gift.

Also loved getting magnets for the door.

It depends on the FE group you're in. Some have "rules" as to how many/how often. Others just let you make the decision.

Thankfully, all the FE groups we've been in, it's been left up to us (individually)how many gifts we gave. Some people only do one gift per stateroom. Others do one gift per person.

slightly off topic, but I have a cute post card story. a few years ago, DH and I went to Mexico. The day we arrived, I found out I was pregnant (it was May). Before we left, we sent a post card to DH's parents. We did not say anything about it, so they could be surprised. They never said anything and we just forgot about it. Fast forward to January. Before we went to the hospital to be induced, we had lunch at DH's parents. On their table was the post card. They had gotten it the day before. DD almost beat the post card.

Now- back to FE. I am jealous of the creativity of some people. I myself hit up the Dollar spot at Target and the Dollar Tree for cute stuff. Right now for me the best gifts would be stuff to use on the cruise or cheap little toys for my kiddo. They do not have to be long term stuff that would be cherished for life, but something to enjoy now. Cheap jewelry, figurines, coloring stuff, stickers, whatever. My DD loves to play with toys and stuff and has tons (and I do mean TONS) of it at home. But I am not going to pack toys to go with us. So stuff to keep her busy when we need a distraction (like while waiting for meals) would be great.
