November/December 2016 discount code watch

In the past, Orbitz has had most of the same discounted resort prices as Disney. I thought maybe they just hadn't gotten them loaded to their web site yet.
I know, I was surprised too. Whenever Disney offers a public discount, Orbitz rates usually reflect that. Not sure if Disney is holding those back from 3rd party sellers.

Sort of related to this, I read over at the Touring Plans site that one of the reasons Boardwalk Ticketing had to shut down temporarily is that (and this is a theory) they are getting tickets through Expedia, and Disney does not want big resellers getting too much bargaining power. Disney would prefer small agencies that, separately, don't have enough clout to make demands. But once a large number of people start turning to places like Expedia or Orbitz, it gives those bigger agencies much more power. So it may well be that Disney has started to hold back those promo deals, too.

Wow. Was hoping that a November discount would come out and then when I punched in our dates that we were looking to switch our trip to (since we already have FD for Thanksgiving week), there is only POFQ, AKL, BLT, and GF Villas available!!!! I guess we are going Thanksgiving week.

I am probably going to be dropping a 1:25 lunch res at BOG for 11/16 too...

So it looks like we are all in for November. I took the Touring Plans ratings for November and compared them to the last week of January, and yes, there are differences where on Day 1 @ Epcot Nov 6 we are looking at a 5, and Day 1 @ Epcot in January we are looking at a 4. Is the difference really that great? On that particular day we are going to be hitting up Garden Grill for an 8AM PPO reservation so hopefully our strategy of knocking out Soarin first etc will work. Rope drop every morning and a second set of magic bands and we should be OK.

The tipping point for us is weather, where this year my kids really want to build in pool time and a water park day, and where in the last week of January you are all but assured that the weather will certainly be on the "cool" and sometimes "cold" side.

Plus, ADR's are all made and flights are booked.

That being said, I'm with you guys till the bitter end, and whatever it is, it is.

Just wondering though, as I detest chair hogs at the pool. You know, the mopes who leave towels behind for hours so that they can go have breakfast, tour a park, and then come back midday to enjoy a splash when it's the warmest. I haven't had an issue in the past at Disney because hotel levels have always been lower, but with POR not even available for sale I wonder just how crowded things will get. Have any of you had experiences requesting that staff remove such items if it's clear that nobody is around and sitting there, or do you just do it yourself? Me, I do it myself, but wonder if you've run into this problem at the resorts previously. It's been more of an issue on cruise ships for me. Perhaps the fact that POR also has so many pools it might not be as much of an issue.

Somewhere I read that the resort pool attendants are supposed to sweep periodically and remove towels left longer than a certain amount of time, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't really do that.

2nd set of magic bands.... Can you elaborate? How does that work.

On our last cruise, the attendants places tiny stickers with a # on the specific chair leg- I suppose that it was the time. If nobody came back within X amount of minutes, their stuff was removed and stored for safekeeping. Worked perfectly, and it was always great to sit down with some popcorn when the hogs returned, looking for their stuff.

"We just went back to the room for something."

"I forgot my sunglasses in the room."

"I needed to get my towel"

to which the response was,

"Sir/madam, you were gone for 86 minutes, as evidenced by my little sticker."

Wow, that is genius but it seems like sooooo much more effort than it's worth unless you are going on a 9/10 crowd day.

A bit of extra work, yes, but the rewards can be rather decent. That being said, I wouldn't expect to get any Tier 1 rides on a SDFP.

I DO have my ex-husband's MBs from our last trip. How long do MBs last before they are deactivated?

I don't think I would go this route, myself, unless we got there and found crowds to be utterly unbearable.

From what I can gather, if the MB's are linked to previously issued tickets, they can't be used. That's why we are buying a second set from Disneystore.com

The extra bands work great! As long as you go to the kiosk early in the morning/before everyone picks their 4th FP+, you will get some decent options!

I will totally take that if no one else has asked for it!
(I haven't even read on to see if someone else mentioned it yet.)

Send me a PM so I remember... I am going to take one more look at my park plans at lunch today and will most likely be letting it go, but I will let you know for sure around 1 PM EST and am happy to coordinate.

Haha, I don't even know how to send a PM, I'm so new here. I went to your profile and "wrote a message" on what seems to be your board, or something. I hope it gets to you.

So after fussing over the lack of a discount and my friend no longer able to pay for her half of the Poly, I found a CBR room for $179/night that wasn't there yesterday. Someday I'll stay at the Poly but I can't pay that by myself. We're still going to have a great time and I've never stayed moderate before, always value or deluxe or off site. This may change our morning pre-cruise some since we were planning a late Kona breakfast, but hopefully it will all work out.

In reference to these extra magic bands, if we have old magic bands from a RO reservation that were never linked with tickets, would those work?
