Everybody Wants to be a WISH Cat (or dog, or goose, etc...) - October 2016 WISH Challenge

Hello all,
- so I decided to take her to dancing and have a late dinner when I picked her up - so I pushed through and we just finished chicken soft tacos. So an up and down day - I am a little disappointed but overall - I am ok with it I could have derailed even further but I didn't and tomorrow is another day and back on track.

Well done! It's never plain sailing, you have to navigate around situations and focus on the direction you want to go.

Hi everyone! I hope it isn't too late to join this month.

I am Kristin, and I am brand-new to the boards. I am 33 and a full-time high school teacher and mom to 2 (6 year old DD and 4 year old DS). My husband and I have been married for almost ten years. In our free-time, we love spending time together and planning our next Disney trip (a nine day trip coming up in June). We went last summer, and honestly, although my weight didn't affect my ability to get around the parks, I was embarrassed to see myself in the pictures. My goal is to lose 39 lbs.(bringing me to 140) before we go on our trip in June, so that I can proudly frame and display my photos of my favorite people in our favorite place (and so I can be healthier overall, of course). Additionally, my husband was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, so we are working as a family to gain some healthier habits.

For October, my goal is to lose 4 lbs. I will do this through watching what I eat (I am using an app called iTrackBites which is similar to Weight Watchers) and through trying to increase my exercise. I look forward to getting to know you all and wish you the best of luck!!

Welcome to the group Kristin.

October 18 - Question of the Day

We are back visiting Lafayette and Napoleon-- our comedic duo!

And is QUITE upset when Edgar steals it back--

I'll be the first to admit-- I'm like Lafayette... I will pout if my sleep is off!

Sleep is very important in your weight loss journey. More than just dulling your senses, actual hormones are effected when you don't get enough sleep.

I've linked a short article to Harvard school of medicine's summary of it here if you want to read more. It's very interesting.

So, what about you and your sleeping habits?

Do you find that sleep impacts your ability to loose weight and/or stay on track to meeting your goal?

How do you power through on days you are tired?

So funny you should mention this. I made pancakes yesterday and brought 2 leftovers to work for breakfast this morning-- and I was thinking, I should do this more often Haha! Great idea!

Pancakes also freeze really well! So I make a double or triple batch and am set for a good amount of time.

My favorite was the jello-shot guy that gave out the plastic containers at the top of a steep hill and you had to try to not slip on the trash as you ran over the crest. Melted jello and plastic lids are not easy to run on!

Jello shots?! :scared: I can barely gag those down sitting on the couch, let alone in the middle of a half marathon!

This is a struggle - but it has been your birthday so maybe things will settle a little - hope you find that groove as some fun socialising is just what you need at the moment. I don't think you told us your actual birthday so ... :bday: hope you enjoyed it :D

It's the 22nd :) so thank you!

I'm a sleeper. I try to get a solid 8 hours a night which I'm good at doing because I know me and know that I can't even function on less than 8 hours. If I just let my body sleep without an alarm then I can easily get 10 hours of sleep. So during the work week I pretty much always feel tired.

When I feel tired, especially at work, I try to get up and go to another floor or the bathroom. Just something to get up and get moving. Yesterday I was exhausted because my anxiety kept me up the night before and it was really tempting to skip my workout and just go home and crash but I went and had an awesome (super hard) workout and I'm so happy I did! I am always way more productive in the evening when I work out versus when I just go home and lay on the couch for 3 hours before going to bed.

I love my sleep. I would be the happiest person in the world if I could 12 hours of good sleep a night. My mom tells me all the time that I was the best baby. What ever time she put me to bed would be the time I would get up in the morning. If she wanted to sleep in she would but me to bed late. I get really crabby without my sleep.

Lately I have not been sleeping good. Between my husband snoring and my daughter waking me up at night because she is awake, there have been nights I have only gotten a few hours of sleep. Hopefully I can get my daughter back on track but my husband is a never ending battle. He has sinus issues that cause some of the snoring but he is also over weight. The times that he has lost some weight the snoring seems to stop and I sleep better. He is working on losing weight too so hopefully it gets better.

I have never a correlation to weight lose but the more I think about it it probably does. I tend to eat more if I am tired. Eating keeps me awake so I snack more during the day.

So lately I have been eating toast. 2 slices of toast with smart balance butter with the added omega-3. I do add some cinnamon sugar but it is only like a teaspoon. Just enough to give it some flavor.

That sounds good!

Ok I had my first slip of the month today - I totally caved and had maccas for lunch but I kept it to a cheeseburger, fries and coke zero usually I would have had a bigger burger. Then this afternoon I was feeling a bit blah - this escalated to on the drive home some weird random pains and sensations which kicks off my anxiety - I managed to hold it together and made it home - laid on the couch for a while - well into when I should have started dinner as it is dancing night for DD - I laid there thinking about dinner and honestly I contemplated takeout again! But for some reason - I just couldn't decide what to have nor did I have the energy to drive to get it (usually neither of these things would have worried me!) - so I decided to take her to dancing and have a late dinner when I picked her up - so I pushed through and we just finished chicken soft tacos. So an up and down day - I am a little disappointed but overall - I am ok with it I could have derailed even further but I didn't and tomorrow is another day and back on track.

Echoing everyone else that said yay for you for getting back on track! It happens-- you fall off track, but you got yourself back on which is soooo hard sometimes!

It's a catch 22 -- working out gives you more energy, but if you're tired its hard to work out! So yay for you too for powering through and not crashing!

@elsaandsulley :welcome: Join right on in!!!

I was not so good yesterday. It was boss's day and our staff brought in waffles, donuts, quiche, bagels, zucchini bread and coffee. And well I ate all of it. Some was breakfast and some was lunch. Then I went home and had Chinese food for dinner. Not good. I did exercise though. I did some random 20 minute upper body workout (on OnDemand) and then I did a 20 minute power walk video to get m steps up a bit.

Sleep: I need it! I'm super cranky if I dont get enough. I am not one of those people that can get by on 6 hours! I know this about myself so I usually do get enough sleep in. DH snores so I sleep with ear plugs many nights to help out. I've never noticed a relationship btwn sleep and weight loss.

I haven't seen much correlation between sleep and weight loss for me, but I also sleep the same hours no matter if it's a workday or weekend. It's a curse.

Yesterday was our last JV football game of the year (YES!) and it was at a school about 90 min away. We ended us stopping at McDonald's on the way back and I ordered some french fries for the first time in forever (I ordered a small and they gave me a medium, and of course I caved and ate them all)... so good, but so bad for me. It's amazing what one bad snack will do to the scale the next day - ended up gaining 3.5 lbs despite only being about 400 calories over my norm! Obviously not real weight, but it's still enough to get me angry and focused again. Thanks golden, salty, delicious fries!

I haven't been exercising much, but my calorie intake has been good and I've been holding steady. I would love to drop another 10 lbs and give myself a nice cushion from the 200 lbs mark (was 198 this morning). Once football is over (which could be Friday), I'll ramp up the exercise again and see if I can get those last few lbs off... my guess is these will be the toughest 10 to lose!

Gear yourself with patience! My experience with last 10 was 3 week no loss, 1 week 3 lbs, 3 weeks no loss 1 week 2.5 and so on.

I am half day checked out of this discussion and mentally at the Hollywood Studios! WE ARE GOING THIS SATURDAY!!!

Had glass of prosecco with my dinner and have the great intenions to clean up in the kitchen and go over the luggage and to do list... not sure about that!

Sticking to walks and didn't let DH and DS to tennis or football as we were all sick last week.

So, I started my 30 minute DVD at 8:45pm despite my headache. And you know what happened? My head did not bother me while I was exercising. It did not make it worse, if it had an effect at all, it made it slightly better! And even though I felt tired and without energy before, I actually got through the exercises like on any normal day. And I felt so proud afterwards.

That's fantastic - I don't think I could push through a headache for that - so you should be very proud of yourself.

Which is good as tonight I am going into town after work and meet a friend to finally see Finding Dory! It has only been out two weeks here in Germany and I already felt very left behind as most other countries had it out for such a long time!

I told the kids the other day you hadn't seen it yet as it hadn't been out over there yet ... they couldn't believe it as we had it here in the June/July school holidays! I hope you enjoy it and think its worth the wait :-)

It's the 22nd :) so thank you!

Ah so we didn't miss it - great! My niece is 21 today - all that does is remind me how old I am getting lol!

So, what about you and your sleeping habits?

I do need my sleep and if I don't get enough at night I end up napping on the weekend or falling asleep super early on the couch one night through the week. I find the longer I stay up at night the more naughty snacks and more soft drink I have ... so its not necessarily the lack of sleep itself that gets me its the things I eat while I am up late that gets me! As for powering through - the old fall back would have to be chocolate and coke  - I have occasionally been so tired that I have put my head down on my desk at work for 10 minutes (lucky I have been alone in the office those days haha). Over the holidays I bought some Berocca to try to give my vitamin B a boost - it doesn't taste the greatest but is probably a better option than chocolate and coke.

Yes, I loved it! Now off to bed to get my sleep (I am currently trying to sleep more because I do think it helps me with weight loss!).

Lunchtime power naps in my car do wonders. Also copious amounts of Diet Mt Dew - all the caffeine without the calories :)

This week has been insane and it's only Tuesday. Found out my debit card was hacked while in Montreal and won't get my replacement until Thursday evening before heading to Toronto. So far my impression of Canada is a big thumbs down. Just having this big moment of self-doubt as friends and family are moving so much further ahead of me in life and career. It's tough... broke down yesterday into a big pile of sad. Feeling better today - so that's good.

Wow, Canada was not good to you! Hang in there and keep your head up high! Think of the amazing things you have accomplished this year!

Ahh I ended up napping in the car waiting for the kids this afternoon - I seriously hit the wall at work this afternoon and my brain just stopped taking in anything - I had an early start with a tricky meeting and then as it is warming up here weather wise my office was warm - no air con - and I just had to give up.

Boo to those Canadian hackers! I agree totally with @kirstie101 you have achieved so much - but I totally get those moments when we look around at those in our lives and think how/why are they achieving/have that job, relationship, house, holidays etc etc. and get down on yourself - I regularly have them but I am older than you and I get down because I had some of it, lost it and struggle with the idea of not having it in the future and wonder what that means for me security/big picture wise. Everyone says we shouldn't compare ourselves to others but its natural and we all do it. You have time on your side - I have faith you will get to your dreams :-).

That sucks. Sorry to hear your experience in Canada so far isn't great

It's natural that we have self doubts, but remind yourself how much have you achieved in transforming your life, make your mind on what do you want and go after it in the same manner you did in transforming how you live and who you are!

Meeting friend for lunch today, off work tomorrow, in work Friday, flying to Florida Saturday. She is heading to Florida few days after me.

I am disappointed I can't go to the gym but I can't really risk it.

Deciding that I will count calories for life, even when I estimate was huge relief for me. I can't get over why I ever stopped as I am good with numbers, it only takes me 10 minutes a day at maximum and I like it? I estimate often but it doesn't seem to have any negative impact? I think there is pressure on what people view as normal, but 60/70 % of adults are overweight or obese - surely that should not be the norm and i someone is enjoying their life and finds easy way to maintain their weight we should support them

I had a glass of prosecco last night and the night before and I think I did it little prematurely the day after I finished antibiotics. My resting heart rate went up from 60 to 65 when I felt ill and to 68 the first night and 70 second after I had a glass. I am looking forward of bringing it back to happier levels as I am not feeling that great - drinking any alcohol doesn't really suit me well. The last time it was 70 was 7th of Mach!

I will just need to chill little more. This is annoying

I know how you feel. We had our PayPal account hacked this time last year. The guy bought 2 Iphones from our Ebay account using our PayPal account. They took $2,000. It was a mess and a lot of stress. I think I ate my weight in peanut butter M & M's. The stress eating was taken to a whole new level last October. Hang in there. It will get better.

 Echoing what the others have already said-- it is quite natural to compare, but important to remember that we are all on our own journeys and no two are alike. But I know it's tough. Especially in this day and age of social media where other's positives and progresses are over shared and seem disproportionate to any struggle. Just know you're not alone-- at all! And try to remember all the wonderful things you've already accomplished!

October 19 - Woohoo Wednesday!!!

What reasons do you have to add a little pep to your step this week!?

I am so sorry you feel that way! I think @Lady Marie hit on an important point: you are more likely to hear about all the positive things in other people's lives than the not so great ones. And everyone has their own victories and I think you have acchieved so much to be proud of: losing so much weight, running all those half marathons and also getting your MBA while you were working! And those are all big ones as they all solely depend on your inner strength and willpower, not on good luck or the right connections.
