MNSSHP - Going Overboard on Dates?

I understand that Disney is a business and we really love the Halloween party, we went twice last year 2016, but I think the amount of nights the MK park is closing at 7 to regular guests is getting a bit excessive. Now they are even starting in August.

I guess it's good that this gives more opportunities for some families but it sure limits park time for others that don't care or cant afford the prices of the party. For non party going guests they are still paying premium costs just to be at Disney World and it sucks they are stuck with so many MK early closing nights.
Especially October guests.

EVENT DATES
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place on the following dates:

  • August 25 and 29, 2017
  • September 1, 7, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26 and 29, 2017
  • October 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27, 29 and 31, 2017

Party goers still pay that premium cost, AND an additionnal cost for the parties.

Now, longer dates, well ...
We used to go in October and loved MNSSHPs
Now we're stuck with August due to work
We're flying back on the 26th, and first party is on the 25th

Do I need to add that we're over the moon ?

While I think MNSSHP in August is a little nuts, WDW consists of four parks and no one is forcing guests to go to MK on a party day or buy a party ticket. We will be there in late August and already planned to be in AK the day/evening of 8/25 to see Pandora at night and ROL. We've known for a while that MK was closing at 7 pm that night, so we just won't go to MK that day.

I have several thoughts. I am hoping that, with more parties available, it slims the crowd a bit on party nights. It's always fun, but last year was very crowded compared with my past experiences. I understand what people are saying about paying full price for a park that closes at 7:00. However, schedules are posted clearly in advance and people can choose if they want to be in MK that day, or not. If their time is limited, it's not like they don't have 10 hours (or more) open to them at the parks. We schedule around a lot of different events for our trips, this is just one of them. Stay grateful!!

All these dates certainly makes seeing the night time fireworks a crammed evening. While we are not being forced to pay extra for the party, we are being forced to a crammed and jammed park for the 1 weekend night with no party.

Halloween in August is ridiculous

Personally I love that. Halloween year round if you ask me.

I personally don't see it as a premium. I will be down there for about 3 days in September(Evening of September 13 to the morning of September 17), one of which will be Animal Kingdom, and the last being SeaWorld(pass holders for that), so if I go to the Disney party that will be my Magic Kingdom day, with some of my favorite characters(Jack and Sally, the villains) in the park, plus it will be nice to have access to the rides when most kids in the park are focusing on the festivities. Granted, I am still undecided whether to go then or make a return trip in October for the party. I am figuring the tickets will run about $80 in September this year, based on the regular ticket increases and the fact they were about $72 last year in September. Plus, they have to remain competitive with Universal's Halloween Horror Nights prices to attract those who are split between the two options. The prices are just speculation at the moment, but I am probably pretty close.

Well, I'm excited about it! Now my kiddos can experience the Halloween Party on 8/25. I went to the party solo in 2013 because I wouldn't take them out of school for it, LOL.

@lentesta tweeted that between 8/25 and 12/22 MK closes 53 of 120 days! That is a lot of early closings and a lot of extra money people are paying to be in MK for the evening. Out of the 7 nights of my trip, 4 will be party nights.

I guess it depends on priorities. I get some people will be disappointed, but others will be thrilled. Even though this will be my first trip to the big four Disney parks(doing the water parks next month on a short trip), Magic Kingdom I probably would not have gone to without the party going on, since I also have a Bahamas cruise planned for December, so money for tickets is a bit tight. The party ticket for early in the season usually shaves off $20-30 of the full price MK ticket from what I understand.

Right !

After all, who will object celebrating their birthday at WDW, even if it's 6 months early ?

Why should we be denied to celebrate Halloween, or even Christmas during our stay ?

Just was expressing a preference. Halloween is my favorite holiday. One time of the year I can be in costume(without being paid to be) and not get funny looks. Granted I enjoy the history behind it as well, but not everyone cares for that. To each their own.

I'm thrilled about the 8/25 date. We were able to do MNSSHP in 2011 and I never thought my kids would see it again. As they got older, we chose not to pull them out of school. It's the last night of our stay but it'll be worth it!

My only concern about those early dates, is that they might withdraw the chocolate based candies due to the excessive heat ...

I really want my milky way, snickers, and all that good stuff ... I'm not going to only get candy corn :p

I think it is fine if you are a person who wants to do a party as it spreads the crowds out a little but if you don't do the partys and want MK at night, it is just that much more crowded on the few nights that they are open late. I am in both camps- I love a less crowded party but I hate how crowded it is for the few nights to be in MK late those weeks. We still usually do both!
