Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Sigh... CMs across Disney are known to give conflicting or inaccurate information (not their fault, seems everything's always changing or rules are finicky). But, the people who have been at POR have posted photos of the standard rooms and confirmed the bed linens are gone.

AND YET... because of this concern, I sometimes check the #royalguestroom tag on instagram. one of the most recent photos (from May 26) shows the bolster pillow and bed runner! BUT I see others that are a little older (May 14, 20) that do NOT have the runners or pillows, and in at least one of those they're taking many photos of the entire room, and they don't appear to have settled in yet (so, I don't think they just moved the runners and pillows out of the way -- they probably entered the room and took photos right away).
Maybe they're removing them in stages? It's exhausting doing all this detective work :magnify::rotfl2:

Yes, I think maybe it's just a case of the cast members being poorly informed...I just talked to someone else and they said that the pillows and runners are gone, so I'm assuming the other person just didn't know.

Hmm maybe they are removing them in stages. We checked in on 5/29 and this is what our room looked like. No runners or pillows. It looks unfinished :( They could've left the pillows at least. I haven't stayed there since 2014 so I don't know if this is still true but at Paradise Pier at DL you could buy the beach ball pillows they had on the beds. There was even a little note saying you could take it home if you paid for it. If theft is the problem, they could've done something like that.

There was talk of doing that, but it was decided that they didn't want to have to accuse a guest of theft in order to charge them after the fact. So they just removed the problem.

Awww. The rooms are SO pretty! It's a shame design-wise that the beds are so... stark, plain :(

Thank you for posting your pic and confirming!

I also had the thought that maybe the recently posted photos on IG were actually throwbacks, though they weren't hashtagged as such.

Either way, they're removing bed decorations from all resorts across Disney property. Boo hiss :(

They could at least put colored sheets on the bed.
Something that goes with the overall theme
Agreed. Royal blue, camel tan, gold, indigo... life's too short for this kind of mismatching

My fear is that Disney will come around and notice how they clash, but when the next POR refresh happens, plan to redesign the room around white beds. Like the recently refurbished rooms at CSR, Pop, etc. The Royal Guest Rooms have such rich detail, it'll be a shame if they downgrade it to a more minimal/modern theme.

I know this has been covered and many people hate the busses, but how bad are they? We will be staying here the first week in September. Never stayed on site, always at the Best Western in Disney Springs. The Best Western busses were great for us. Usually came every 30 minutes. Stopped at two other DS hotels then to the parks. The Best Western was always the first pick up and drop off. We will have a car but I really don't want to have to drive to the parks every day. We will have our 3.5-year-old son with us so Uber will get expensive with the extra car seat charge. If the busses are really that terrible I'd consider going to the Best Western instead. Obviously cheaper and I wouldn't have to drive. Does anyone have experience from a September trip?

We haven't stayed at POR yet but have stayed at CBR, where you'd hear the same bus complaints. We never had an issue at all.

Honestly, I have never understood the bus issue. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've been going to Disney for years, and have never had to really wait too long for any bus, no matter the resort or park.

We stayed here in 2013, not in September but in late, late August. The busses were never a problem, in my experience. They came pretty regularly. In terms of crowding, it was a little of everything. Most of the time they were fine, occasionally they would be totally packed, several times we were literally the only people on the bus. We never had a problem with them, so unless something has changed since we last visited, I don't really know where all the talk of the bus system being bad comes from.

We are here now, staying in a preferred room in building 15, so we are using the South Depot near the main lobby. We haven't had any issues with the busses. We are typically the last to be picked up on the way to the parks and the last to be dropped off. Every single return trip except for 1 so far has dropped off at FQ before coming to Riverside. Not a big deal though, as going through all 5 stops doesn't really take so long. We have our car with our 5 year old son, but have only used it once when we had an early breakfast at Poly. We could have taken a bus that morning as well, but opted not to for simple convenience of leaving the room a little later.

On our way to Epcot today our bus broke down (engine light came on), so we had to pull off the road about 5 minutes before Epcot. Nothing Disney could do about it (and certainly not POR specific), but wanted to share. They sent another bus, which arrived no longer than about 10 minutes after we stopped and every single person on our bus received a card for an extra FP for the inconvenience. I thought that was pretty nice considering it was a mechanical issue.

wow what a bonus!

I'm sorry to add the thought because no one likes to think it, but; bed bugs don't like white bedding, and it's easier to spot them and their traces if your bedding is all white... just think that may be one big reason, and Disney isn't likely to advertise it...

Definitely! I understand all the reasons Disney wants white bedding. We just want to mourn the beautiful bedding of the past

Also. Did you know that beagles can be trained to sniff out bed bugs? Apparently Disney brings them in periodically for sweeps of hotels!

Bedding has always been white, with the exception of the decorative elements, or bedspreads when they used them.
