To Infinity and Beyond - Becoming a Better DopeyBadger (Comments Welcome)

We also loved Chef Mickey's because our daughter had such a pure, excited reaction to seeing the characters. It was 100% the highlight of our trip. Recently, the pictures started playing as the screensaver on our TV, and our kiddo got SO excited seeing herself with all of the characters.

Also, I really liked BOG for lunch - the food options there were some of the healthiest/freshest of the places we ate.

Like @roxymama, my heart was pounding reading about the early appraisal. Yikes! But, glad you were able to put that panic aside and get some solid, solid runs in. I wish I could pace as closely as you do!

How'd tee-ball go this week?

Sweet! Looks like we think alike. Well actually you think like my wife since she chose all of these.

I think so. I try to peruse the menu to make sure they've got options for me (healthy as possible). So I'd say we're good to go!

We'll see how the training goes in November/December. If I'm in peak shape and ready to crush it, then I'll probably skip the ice cream and stay focused. But if things are a bit looser, than I might have some.

That's funny! I'll have to keep that in mind.

Same, only ever breakfast. We originally wanted this as the celebration meal on Sunday night, but it was booked for the time we wanted. So we switched the Ohana and Mickeys. Now instead of pics with medals it'll be race tips. Good idea!

G loved it in May. The characters were really good. Just make sure to ask Eugene what is in his satchel. :rolleyes1

Love Flame Tree BBQ. It's a nice quick service. I guess they're adding pre-ordering too which will make it super fast to get the food (in theory). Never been to YnY but it's always been on my to-try list.

Not an orange fan. Maybe something for G. She always seems to be all over the place.

Sounds like our dining is pretty N-Sync.

That HM will happen this time. I haven't run one since Jan 2016 and a solo since Dec 2015. I miss it.

Never been there. Steph said you can see the fireworks and projection show at MK from there so that's what we're aiming for. G doesn't like fireworks so maybe this will be a good middle ground. Far enough to enjoy but not too loud.

::yes::

Never been a fan of the waiting game. So we'll see.

Thanks!

Just remember that it took me about 7 weeks of training in the heat before things have just started to settle down. That's about 42 runs without the use of the treadmill (because I don't have access to one). It took far longer this year than in year's past, that's for sure. So don't beat yourself up about paces. I was doing that weeks ago. Seeing my HRvPace projection for marathon pace slip further and further. At its peak it was 2:52 (4/29-5/12). The last time I checked (6/4-6/20) it was 3:09. So my marathon projection slipped by 17 minutes based on HRvPace. But that's alright. It's summer and things change. My race isn't in the summer and the temps will drop back down again. Just keep chugging away based on effort and things will pick back up when the temps drop again. Just remember my easy pace has fluctuated by over a min/mile (and technically 90 seconds behind what I'm suppose to be doing). I just ignore it and run what feels like easy.

Yea, I'd much rather have that run be easier then a few extra winks. Although that's not what I was saying when the alarm went off. :D

Mmmmmmmm giant fritters....

:lmao:

I can't stop watching the nsync gif...what is Lance Bass doing on the far left? Omg, I'm dying laughing for no reason.

Nooooo... Don't worry. Just give it another week and see where you're at. Even at 6 weeks, if the fitness is still there then there is an outside chance at the sub-4. But it may be getting close to the cut-point and thinking about other options. Long term picture.

I got a cancellation at a Physio this morning and got needled so hopefully will help the healing.

a pure, excited reaction to seeing the characters.
Is it wrong that I still feel that way now? I'm really still age 5 but with adult responsibilities, I guess. :D

Enjoyed reading about your ADR plans and about your successful running week! I am constantly humbled by your ability to fit everything in from work to family to running to appraisers showing up ahead of schedule! And then there is your part time job of writing training plans for all of us over on the Marathon Weekend thread...:-)

Agreed! It's a nice way to see the Fab 5 quickly.

Love that carved turkey sandwich!

It was a busy week that's for sure. Thankfully we did a lot of work over the 4th weekend. We only had some easy things left to take care of. Hopefully it was enough.

How'd tee-ball go this week?

Didn't have it last week because of the holiday. Yesterday was a bit rough. She made a friend before class started and then they were split. She spent 3/4 of the class crying because they were split. Then the coaches put them together and then she cried because the friend was playing with her dad like she was suppose to. Afterwards, G told me we should ask the friend to do a sleepover tonight. I asked G if she even knew the friend's name. Nope... I think G is just desperate for a friend.

That's good to hear! My fingers are crossed for you.

Sounds appropriate to me!

It's been a busy last couple of months. Just trying to maintain balance across everything and find time for all of the responsibilities.

Forgot to comment on this one. Just remember, I'm in year #5 of running with ~7500 miles under my belt. The pacing thing comes with time. Here are some of my runs when I first started out:

Granted I was never aiming for a specific pace. These were all just "PR the day" training runs.

Thanks for sharing this! It's a good reminder for the perfectionists among your trainees who kick themselves when they blow it. Also, as an aside, it is really good proof of the truth behind your running motto... the three milers you showed where you were trying to PR the day are around my current race pace... and look at you now, training hard and with a real shot of a BQ. How awesome is that?!

Ahhh yes those 3 milers look a lot like the beginning of my tuesday run last week. So I think what you are saying is to just keep running (said in Dory voice) :)
I also like how there are both rabbits and turtles on your runs.

And I'll add that it's not just in the beginning. Bad runs happen from time to time. I've had my share for sure.

These all add a goal pace of 7:33 min/mile for the Tempo section (middle of the run). Some of these didn't even get close. And sure I was frustrated when it was happening. But it's important to remember "effort trumps pace" because after these runs I still set a marathon PR at the end of the cycle. You're never as good as your best run (well you probably are that good), but you're never as bad as your worst run. There will be ups and downs (especially in the summer) and it's important to try and keep the big picture in mind all the time.

Screen Shot 2017-07-11 at 10.08.51 AM.png

This one slowed down to 90 seconds slower than goal at the end.

Thanks! It's true. I'm working on a very large summary that one day I'll finalize. But its premise is exactly this. It's also why I tell people that you shouldn't be so quick to say you can or can't do something. Keep putting in the work and you just might surprise yourself with the outcome. With endurance running it might take years of effort, but someday you might reach those unicorn level goals you thought were never truly achievable.

Also, remember that all of those non-Garmin stats (from the prior post) were with Runtastic which I later realized was about 5% off. So those 10 min/miles were really 10:30 min/miles and 12 min/miles were really 12:36 min/miles. So when I'm busting out 4:58 min/mile 200s or 6:55 min/miles for 10 miles it certainly hasn't been this way all the time for me. Things were much different in the beginning.

Ahhh yes those 3 milers look a lot like the beginning of my tuesday run last week. So I think what you are saying is to just keep running (said in Dory voice) :)

Just keep running by effort and let the good days and bad days balance themselves out. There were plenty of tough runs this past Daniels 10k cycle that I didn't hit goal paces. Just remember that each run as a single event will have a minimal impact on the bigger picture. It's the cumulative effect of all the training together that makes you successful. So don't let a bad streak (and when adjusting for T+D it wasn't bad at all) mess with your head. Let race day serve as the victory lap (and even race days don't always go the way you want and you just have to remember "I did the best I could today. Sometimes yesterday would have been better. Sometimes tomorrow will be worse. But I did the best I could today."

I also like how there are both rabbits and turtles on your runs.

LOL, yea Runtastic does that for the fastest and slowest miles. Silly!

I actually kind of like the PR of the Day run results when they get posted because the long runs end at a pace I could match. :D

It's a reminder that one day I too could be as fast as the beginning of those runs... just for a race. Not for training.

No need to set limits on yourself. To Infinity and Beyond! Just keep putting in the work and you never know where this journey could take you.

I'm liking the dining plans. It was so nice to get all those done, even though, like you they are all subject to change. Still doing great on all your training and impressive as usual!!

Thanks! My wife gets the credit for the dining plan for sure. Happy with the training thus far and right on target. The next few weeks will be the real crux of fantasy and reality.

So the appraiser finally got back to the bank on Thursday. Although we didn't hear anything until Friday afternoon. Good news! The appraised value came back almost exactly where we predicted it would based on the projected home renovations (kitchen, upper bath, lower bath, new carpet, new entryways flooring). Our home is worth ~$40,000 more than when we bought it 5 years ago and after the renovation will be worth about $70,000 more. We were off by about 1-2 thousand so now it's time to actually make some decisions. So these are the things we're deciding on.

I don't have any pics of kitchen/bath cabinets, but our plan is grey. Here are some overall picture ideas. The concept we're going for is grey French Provincial. It will be grey cabinets, white countertops, red floor.

LOVE all that!! Grey is so current right now and I love it so much. Kitchen backsplash is great. I considered a similar tile when we redid our kitchen. That cherry flooring is gorgeous.

Y'all are so fancy! I love the look. We redid our bathroom with the grey painted wood cabinets (albeit darker) and it looks very nice with the white counter and lighter gray walls. I worried at first about too much white and gray but since we as a family are pretty colorful there's always color in the rooms...and toys :)
It's also a very peaceful color scheme which I like.
Hope it all goes well. It can be stressful to see your rooms torn apart but then it's so exciting to get the final product.
