DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Now I must know...if there's a burger somewhere that can be better than surf & turf, I might need to make a road trip.

So when can I expect you?

They must've had woman laws before we started making man laws.

Dang it!!!!!!

Update on the kid's job front. Lab is out. On Monday, she starts as a research diver for a consulting company based in Jacksonville. The project is an environmental survey of the expansion of Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. They will be mapping the seabed in the area they will be dredging and the adjacent areas that could be impacted. They wanted to hire her full time but she still needs to complete her Masters' Thesis so she will work 2 weeks a month. Real job and good money ($20 an hour).

Nice! Congrats to her!

Why does FB think this is important to me?

One reason why I'm seldom on there.

Thanks to @pkondz for the great burger and quick tour of the Peg this other night. It was nice to finally put a face to the name.

You're welcome! :)

‘Morning all…
One more work day and we can take a break.

Well…
Most of us that don’t have to work the weekends.

Just a word of advice to you dads with the young ones. Mine started 8th and 10th grade yesterday and it wasn't that long I was carrying them around and napping on the TTA with them. Appreciate every minute because the years go by too quickly.
And faster and faster and faster…

Good to hear from you sir

I would like to be able to walk to everywhere I need to go. I'm looking forward to retirement and finding a place within walking distance of a beach, grocery store, and tennis courts. Then, I wouldn't have to drive anywhere, other than to WDW.
I like this plan!

No clue how I’ll implement it, but still…

Pizza and beer. Or, fancy flatbread and beer. Both are good.
Always good.
Not all that fancy though.
It’s just me calling ‘em flatbreads ‘cause while nearly everything coming out of the oven was on a pizza dough base, much of the topping offered made up pies that cannot in good conscious be termed: pizza.
Example… there no such thing as a “pizza” that has any type of chicken on it (BBQ, Buffalo or otherwise)

That said… everything coming out of the oven was dang tasty and the beer selection met with much approval.

Checking in from sunny Winnipeg. We're on the home stretch now; by this time Monday I will be home probably having a nap.
Speaking of “working” across the weekends…
From what I’ve seen “over there”, you sir have been having quite the time.
And doing a fine job of letting the home crowd following along with their fine representatives.
I think you’ll be deserving of that nap.

It could have been worse.....
No doubt in my mind on that.
I’m quite aware of what the rest of the world thinks of us (the collective “us”, that is)

You have to be careful with that one over here. It doesn't mean what Madonna thinks it means.
Haven’t paid that gal any mind since the early 80’s so I’ve no clue what she thinks.
But, I do see where y’all have somewhat repurposed the word over time.

Calling it for the day! Have to go pick up DW's birthday present at the airport - a young blonde that doesn't live at home any longer. Only DD and me know she is coming home for Mom's bday. Also took Monday off so the family can have an extended weekend. Enjoy the weekend gents and first round is on me dependent on where Dan calls it for - Manhattans?
Happy Thursday. It is another beautiful day here, and nice and quiet with the dds in school.

As for the young ens, since you don't have two teenage girls who fight all the time, that may be easier for you to say. I love my girls, and it's even nicer with them being in school.
Ahhhh, the back to school high!

I'll be calling it soon hopefully.
Similar thing for my mom. Flying her up to my house for her birthday and my sister will be driving down from MI. Mom doesn't know.

What a crap day. My car needs to go into the shop so I was going to rent a car from Enterprise. Am a member of their frequent renters thing and used them many a time. Go to pick up the car and since I had a debit card (don't have any credit cards because I enjoy being debt free), they wanted all sorts of stuff almost including a DNA sample. Told them to stuff it. So pretty much today was a wasted day. Picking up a car tomorrow at Thrifty for less money and a better rewards program. Plus I am stuck inside because it is pouring outside. At least an inch and a half of rain.

The good news is I was talking to a friend and I told him I might head up to S. Carolina to view the eclipse. Seems a friend of his wife has a house on Myrtle Beach they are using that week and they invited me to join them. May just do that.

Amen.

That is so true. People told me that when the kid was still crapping her pants and I said I couldn't wait. Now I miss those days. Not the diaper phase but you know what I mean.

That is a cool birthday present. Is the couple doing well on the west coast?

I'll be calling it soon hopefully.

Another cool birthday present.

Hope they both enjoy the surprises and have happy birthdays.

I'm working out the details. DW won't go because if her divorced parent attachment thing. But, if i move both my girls down to Florida, then i have a chance. Now, i just have to figure out if i can swing a condo in three years when oldest is out of HS. Problem is the house should be paid off in 5. Or, maybe she gets an Associates degree here? But, no college hours will translate across state lines. :furious:

Saw that on FB - Eagle has landed. A terrific birthday surprise.

That stinks. Wasted days are the worst as you just get to redo them. I'm about 2 hours north east of optimal eclipse viewing. I'd rather be in my bourbon bar.

Looking at the flights up there, it would be about the same as a flight to Orlando.
Tough call. It would cost me a lot less money to come up there for a burger, but da world --- dole whips!

Tough one.
But, honestly... I think I'd pick Disney.

Just barely, though. :rolleyes1

The reason I've NEVER been on FB and don't intend to.

I never intended to either, but people I know kept saying "Are you on FB?"

<sigh>

Fine.

You should! I remember viewing one and it's one of those life moments kind of things.

Can't call it yet. Youngest has tennis tournament match tonight, and i play in the morning. If we lose, i can start drinking early Saturday.

But, if i can get her and then younger dd to Florida, then maybe i can find that perfect location from better than 1000 miles away, and convince DW to move.

Sorry CJ. I had a similar encounter with them a few years back. I told the guy you can run it as a credit card JUST like they do in the store. Only difference is it comes out of my account IMMEDIATELY vs. being a delayed payment like a CC. Guy looked at me like I had a horn growing out of my head. Guess that could've been the case because I was madder than a rhino. I too ended up going with a different company. I told the guy, fine, if you don't want my money sitting IN THE BANK vs. some credit card...okay...I'll take my business to someone with a clue!

Saw the DD on Facebook mate, I bet that went down well, nice one. Manhattans it is buddy. Enjoy your long weekend..

CJ sorry about your car issues, but it sounds like you struck lucky on the beach house.

Norm, I'd watch paint dry in a Bourbon bar.

In other news, we have had a couple of our American cousins move next door. So there goes the neighbourhood.

And DW got the big job, so being a stay at home dad for about a year starts in 5 weeks.....

Have a fabulous weekend chaps

Morning all…
97% humidity here today. I do believe I’ll be stayin’ inside for the duration.

Ahhhh, the back to school high!
Sent ours back up there this past Tuesday.
Back to walking ‘round the house in our britches and having whatever we please for dinner.

But then you start missing ‘em.

Excellent work gents.
Ya’ gott’a love it when a plan comes together.

So, their poor service forced you to get a better deal ?
Maybe they should advertise that as a service.

A lot of business don’t like debits for various liability reasons and having encountered that stuff in the past, I don’t carry my debit cards anymore. Rather I use just one credit card that I treat as if it were a debit. I track it in my ledgers as if it were a debit and pay it down to zero about every ten days or so.

The main up side of this is that I get reimbursed if the card gets hacked (which has happened at least three times), where a bank probably won’t do so for your cash accounts leaving you on the hook for the amount taken. There is some insurance on the purchases, and I’ve earned nearly $4000 in Disney points over the last six years and I have not paid one cent in interest on the thing in all that time.

You should go if you can.
Just remember that MB will be outside of the shadow so you can’t see totality from there.
You’ll need to head south at least down toward the Georgetown area to see the full eclipse.

Now, if y’all were to head just a bit farther down toward Charleston that morning, then you’ll be able to find me watching the event as well. I’ll be Downtown sitting in a lawn chair in Brittlebank Part looking west across the Ashley River for the duration. Drop by if you’re in the area.

Nah, we love yah.
In other news, we have had a couple of our American cousins move next door. So there goes the neighbourhood.
So…
Which one of these sentiments should I actually believe?
:rolleyes1

I love this part of my job but I'm glad it only happens every two years. Running on 4 to 6 hours of sleep for about 18 days get old when you hit that 10 day mark. That being said I wouldn't trade this for anything in the world. Last night was awesome! The wrestlers I've been with all week had chances for 7 medals in the individual competitions and will be bringing home six, 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. Our heavyweight won the gold, pinning his opponent from Ontario in 36 seconds. His reaction was fantastic.
