DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Update on the kid's job front. Lab is out. On Monday, she starts as a research diver for a consulting company based in Jacksonville. The project is an environmental survey of the expansion of Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. They will be mapping the seabed in the area they will be dredging and the adjacent areas that could be impacted. They wanted to hire her full time but she still needs to complete her Masters' Thesis so she will work 2 weeks a month. Real job and good money ($20 an hour).

So how'd it come out?

Yep, you got that right. Never heard of it. Don't even get me started on broiling. Thats not even a word over here.

I figured the American use of London in Broil as about as relevant as the French in Fries
(and yeah, I know there not “fries” over that way).

Turned out perfect, rare and oh so tender. Didn't "broil" it but sautéed it in a hot skillet. 3 1/4 minutes a side and voila. And no the name has nothing to do with that neighbor across the pond.

Managed to find a few minutes to get together with Darcy yesterday.
Pictures or it didn't happen.

Looks good. The food that is.

Argument with the Mrs tonight. She brought up something I did wrong 13 years ago. How does one even start to challenge that? I probably shouldn't have said to get the car up to 88 mph. :lmao: :scared1:

Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. Will you ever learn? Funny line though. I imagine your head would have exploded if you didn't let it out.

Congrats to PP!!! :dogdance::dogdance::dogdance:

Moving closer to the point where she can pick up the check at WDW. :woohoo:

Happy Wednesday. Gym out. Office job out. Grass cut. The dds should be home from school soon. I'm still getting silent treatment, but I get to play tennis tonight, so it's all good.

Don't tell anyone what?

Exactly. I missed it the first time. Bravo.

So “broil” is American as well? What word do y’all apply for the method of roasting something at better than 500 degrees within three inches of the heat source?

But is it “secret” or is it “double secret”…

makes a difference.
.

It's always double secret probation. That's the only type. Now bend over and ask for another. :lmao:

Now I must know...if there's a burger somewhere that can be better than surf & turf, I might need to make a road trip.
.

I'll gladly meet you Tuesday .... Or any day for surf n turf.

I'm almost always joking, but in this case totally missed the 88mph reference.
Don't worry, I've already smacked myself in the head and said hello McFly to myself.

I found myself driving back from Disney, and everytime that speedometer hit 88, that music went off in my head while I looked for the time circuits. :lmao:

That and the loud crash you heard was my Disney stock as a result of their Q3 results - thanks to ESPN.
I did my best to help last month.......
(just as with every other Yank you’ve ever run across, it’s inevitable).
I don't believe it, I can't turn into a Listerine......

1.21 Gigawatts?

From above? Grilling. From below in a pan? Frying or Griddling. On a BBQ? Grilling. Go figure.
(and yeah, I know there not “fries” over that way)
There are in burger joints. We use that one interchangeably. But Crisps are never Chips.

Wow, research diver. That sounds great". Getting paid for doing work she likes. A concept we should all have embraced.

I'll never learn or shut up. I figured 13 years ago made it fair game. :sad2:

Thats fantastic mate. Props to the young'un. All the best of luck to her.

Congrats and best of luck to her, that sounds like she will love it!
I'm still getting silent treatment,
Which isn't always a bad thing .......................................

I dont want anyone to know about April trip because I want the parks all to myself:rolleyes1

Thanks guys, passed your congrats on to her. She is already nervous and she doesn't start until Monday.

I don't post to FB much except in our little corner but some of the crap they are showing me is driving me nuts.
Getting tired of posts, not from friends or even friends of friends but their 3rd cousin, twice removed that asks:

“Not sure you just click like to my posts and do not read them. For fun (editor’s note, fun?) post the 37th picture on your phone here, not your 36th or 38th but the 37th. In the post give me one name that describes the best quality that you like about me and a 3 word answer, not 2 or 4, on how we met. Like if you believe the Earth is round, love if you think the world is flat or angry if you believe in aliens. Finally, take a GIF of you going outside where you turn around three times, curse and spit (editors note: anyone know where this came from?). If you do not do this I will know I am alone in the world and will die on the couch only to be eaten by my cats. My life is in your hands.”

Why does FB think this is important to me?

Crazy busy week on the work front. I'm hoping it gets better next week. Don't have as much time for posting these days, but I've been reading along.

I'm a bit late to the party, but pass on my congrats to the PP. Sounds like a rewarding job.

Getting paid for doing work she likes. A concept we should all have embraced.
Yes I've been thinking that myself this past week.

‘Morning all…
Took the Missus out for a little supper last night and got caught up in one mell of a hess traffic wise.
Forgot to take into account the PGA event and that is was also the night of the first pre-season home game. Won’t be makin’ that mistake again. The schools crank up next week as well, so I’ll have to start leaving earlier for work again to deal with that traffic. Too bad there’s no viable mass transit option for 90% of the country.

Congrats to her and that’s remarkable news considering how many young’ens are finding it harder to put the degrees directly to work.

They can’t do that to our pledges.
Only we can do that to our pledges.

I don't believe it, I can't turn into a Listerine......
Now that there is a right complex bit of rhyming slang that I’d not head before.
Had to give the web a butchers to make sure I understood the reference.

“Septic tank”…
Interesting phrase choice on y’all’s part.

From above? Grilling.
Got it.
Always good to know the proper translation.

Getting paid for doing work she likes. A concept we should all have embraced.
I’m all for the concept.
There’s just no one willing to pay me for what I enjoy doing.

Bless those that can pull it off.

I dont want anyone to know about April trip because I want the parks all to myself:rolleyes1
April?
Not bloody likely.

Why does FB think this is important to me?
FB don’t care what’s important to you.
They’re just trying anything to get you to react.
You don’t post and they don’t make money.
The more content, regardless of its value, the more their algorithms can send you adverts.

Crazy busy week on the work front. I'm hoping it gets better next week. Don't have as much time for posting these days, but I've been reading along.
That’s how it goes for me quite often.
Some weeks I can join in, others it’s a struggle to do more than read in the evenings.
It tends to lock you out of some of the conversations every now and then

Hope things settle down a bit in the near.
New jobs can be quite trying.

Rained out of the field and trying to get motivated for the computer work and budget wrangling but will have to wait on reading what I missed though I see congrats are in order for the Pirate Princess Crash. Well done CJ (and Crash)!

Just a word of advice to you dads with the young ones. Mine started 8th and 10th grade yesterday and it wasn't that long I was carrying them around and napping on the TTA with them. Appreciate every minute because the years go by too quickly.

That'll teach ya for tryin to do something nice. Did you go someplace nice mate? Cheeky steak?

On the rhyming slang, if you ever see the phrase that's longer than the original, it's hardly ever used. As East Londoners (or Limeys) we are generally on a mission to get as many words out as soon as is humanely possible. So long slang especially two words like Septic tank would be shortened to septic. Hence the death of apples and pears, etc...

No good deed...
I took her to a place to uses a wood fired oven to do up flat-breads & sandwiches.
Was right good, so I'll probably go back, but I'll try not to sit in the bar again as the keep resented having to deal with food orders. They did have an excellent local brew on tap though and that makes up for most things.

As for the slang, I've partaken of enough BBC content over the years to understand how it works.
I'd be the septic heading up the apples to get enough privacy to talk to my trouble on the dog (don't want the listerines listen in ya' know).

But you got to be in the know to understand a lot of 'em.
Save for the hand full that have made it into common American speech like bread or raspberry, it's not something the average Joe in the States will catch right off. My real observation was on the psychology of choosing septic tank rather than any other phrase that ended in a rhyme for Yank.

Happy Thursday. It is another beautiful day here, and nice and quiet with the dds in school.

Why does FB think this is important to me?

It doesn't. Just some algorithm. I scroll through them as quickly as possible.

Yes I've been thinking that myself this past week.

I think about it, especially when it is a busy week. I don't care to work, especially when it is something I enjoy. Somehow, I never get tired at WDW.

I would like to be able to walk to everywhere I need to go. I'm looking forward to retirement and finding a place within walking distance of a beach, grocery store, and tennis courts. Then, I wouldn't have to drive anywhere, other than to WDW.

Just a word of advice to you dads with the young ones. Mine started 8th and 10th grade yesterday and it wasn't that long I was carrying them around and napping on the TTA with them. Appreciate every minute because the years go by too quickly.

Enjoy the computer time. As for the young ens, since you don't have two teenage girls who fight all the time, that may be easier for you to say. I love my girls, and it's even nicer with them being in school.

No good deed...

Pizza and beer. Or, fancy flatbread and beer. Both are good.

Afternoon Gents.

Checking in from sunny Winnipeg. We're on the home stretch now; by this time Monday I will be home probably having a nap.

Wrestling action has been fast and furious the last couple of days. Both our men and women should be in the 5th place duel later tonight in the team competition and I think we should have some wrestling for individual medals tomorrow. This has been my first experience with wrestling and these bouts can move pretty quickly. I think our men's matches in the first round lasted on average 40 or 50 seconds, couple went to the second round but that was it.

Thanks to @pkondz for the great burger and quick tour of the Peg this other night. It was nice to finally put a face to the name.

Hope everyone is doing well, Time to get back to the action.

yeah, that deserves one of these :rotfl2:

It could have been worse.....

Nice to hear from you buddy. You don't know how hard it has been not to respond on the other place with phrases containing the words "Jelly" or "Mud", but I realise that when you are posting there, that is a relatively professional environment, so I kept slapping my wrists.

Not Golden Oaks then. Or does the Poly/GF beach count?
or raspberry,
You have to be careful with that one over here. It doesn't mean what Madonna thinks it means.

Towwwwgaaaaa. Towwwwwgaaa.

Look after yourself up there buddy. Check in when you can. Your beach trip looked cool...

...

Homes in Golden Oak go for $2 million. I won't be able to afford that unless we win the lottery. I want to move to Florida when girls are out of school. Or, at least get a condo and snow bird. Where in Florida is the question. One option is near Orlando. Or, near the beach. Vero is a nice area (DVC resort there and drive thru the town.) DW likes Gulf side, so Destin or as far South as Tampa might work.
