$15 per night for no mousekeeping at FOFQ

I will definitely do it for $15/night if it's an option at my resort. I hate knowing strangers are in my room and I hate when they move stuff around and then I can't find things I'm looking for. I tend to not sleep much when I'm down there so I get up early and clean and straighten up the room. As long as they tell me where to take my trash and how to get clean towels, I'll be good to go.

I would totally accept the offer. Most of the time(anyplace we travel) we don't like housekeeping coming in our room. We just don't like some random stranger in the room with our stuff. In only takes a minute or two to make the bed and I like to keep everything neat anyway. Normally we keep the DND on the door the entire time and will ask the housekeeper for some fresh towels or whatever when we see her/him. They generally love us because it's one less room to do.

LOL...last March at POP I left my room to go to the pool around 9:30am(3rd day there) and meet the housekeeper in the corridor. She asked if I was certain that I was going to keep the DND on the door. I said yes and that I would ask for supplies if needed. She then said everyone likes Mickey soap to take home. She said open your bag and then tossed in about 10 bars.

And they're going to keep dropping it until eventually housekeeping is an extra charge.
Isn't that how DVC is, if you want more than 2x a week cleaning? (Something like that?) Considering that DVC is at the same resorts as the regular hotel rooms, doesn't seem like a stretch to go to the same system: room is cleaned before you arrive, then day 4(?) and day 7(?). If you want more, its costs. (I'm not DVC so probably wrong on the details! Maybe its just trash and towels days 4 and 7?)

A regular room is more than DVC (for the same room). Paying more for the same level of service would really suck - especially since they aren't going to lower the cost of the rooms.

So if you want clean towels, you have to call & request them? When they bring them to you, are you then handing the person at your door a pile of dirty towels? Ugh

It's really not that hard. We (like others apparently) do this every trip. When we get there we hang the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door for the length of our stay. If/When we need new/more towels, we just call Mousekeeping and exchange them out. No big deal for us.

It will work great for some people, and others it won't. But ya, Disney loves the DVC set up. You know they would love that set up everywhere.

It's upsetting to me that so many people are using this ridiculously cheap buyout of Disney not providing services that even the lowest value motels would provide. It's obvious they are moving toward tacking on a fee for mousekeeping, and this is the trial. Gross. When guests stay in a room for a week and it isn't cleaned, that makes the entire place filthier to clean for all. There will be more roaches, etc. I am a POR regular, and it's disheartening they would do this by dangling gift card crumbs in front of guests.

I think you are pretty much on spot. But I am not going to count the chickens just yet before they hatch, so to speak.

I like housekeeping, but on our last trip our room had never been made up before we got back for an afternoon break anyways.

It can vary sometimes. I have only returned once to my room without it being serviced first. And that was at CSR.

Just practically speaking, it really does sound penny wise and pound foolish. I always thought that hotels kept up really strict housekeeping protocols, like emptying waste baskets, and also vacuuming every day so that carpets and upholstered items don't get wrecked by junk ground into them, and, yes, to keep away bugs and rodents. This new idea is super surprising to me.

I've noticed several people mentioning this on another thread. It's never been a problem for us (and we do take a break at the resort most afternoons) so I didn't realize how much it happens. Anyway, several posters said that they routinely call housekeeping before they leave for the parks in the morning to let them know that the room is available for cleaning and that they expect to be back in the room by 2:00 (or whatever time) and if possible, it would be nice if the room was serviced by then. That way housekeeping can schedule accordingly and there's a better chance of having their room made up by the time they return. I don't think I ever would have thought of doing that, but now I'm keeping that little tidbit tucked away in case we run in to that issue on future trips.

Maybe Disney is already lowering the number of housekeepers they keep on staff? The fewer they have, the chances you have of returning to a room that has not been serviced goes up. Just a thought.

I think the problem is they can't retain enough housekeepers to service all of the rooms effectively. I read a job posting last week that indicated they are currently offering a nice sign-on bonus for Disney housekeepers. I can't remember the exact amount but it was in the $500-1000 range.

I'm in that same minority. I take care of laundry, garbage, and making my bed every day at home. I don't want to do those things on vacation. I love coming back from the parks and seeing the clean room. $15/$20 is not enough to even make me stop and think about it. I would probably start to consider it if it was $40....though I would still have them come in at least once during our stay.

I'm with you guys! I even make sure we stay somewhere with no kitchen facilities so nobody can ask me to cook anything :rotfl2:
