I have been glued to the Irma thread on TPAS board for the past 2 1/2 days (at least). We pushed our trip back by 2 days - originally leaving 9/12 now scheduled to leave 9/14, returning 9/20. DH and I had been talking about options and moving the trip back was one of them. Our arrival and departure nights were at other hotels, but the other four nights were reserved at BC with a magical deal. Yesterday I decided to start looking for a room to add on the back-end of our trip. Was able to snag a BC Pool/Lagoon view for our dates! Then this morning, I got notification from Touring Plans that a fall discount was just issued and was able to get about a 5% discount off the rate I originally booked. Not exactly magical deal prices, but at this point we're trying to salvage a trip so budget goes out the window. So now, we're staying all six nights at BC. We will have to change rooms, but I am NOT complaining.

As I mentioned previously, MIL is in Daytona Beach and our trip really hinges on the extent of damage and her ability to come up here (ATL). But I am fully mentally/emotionally prepared to cancel if necessary. In the grand scheme of life and things that can go wrong, canceling a vacation is but a small inconvenience FOR ME. At the same time, I feel incredibly sad for people who have sacrificed, saved and planned for a year or more, can't rearrange schedules or time off, etc. - so many dreams and plans unrealized. And of course, I am very worried for everyone who may be impacted by this terrible storm and praying for safety.

I'm glad to hear you were able to adjust your plans. I'll be thinking of your MIL and hoping all is well with her and her neighbors all over Florida (and beyond)

::yes::

There is no love button, but this, exactly!

We're scheduled to fly home Sunday. Although the flight hasn't been canceled yet, I don't think that's happening. We tried to book flights for today or tomorrow with no luck. I stopped at the front desk last night to see about extending our stay and was told to come back in the morning. Went down this morning at 6:00am and was told by the same person to come back at 8:00. I have no idea what we're going to do if we can't get a room for Sunday and Monday.

If your current resort can't accommodate you, ask CM to check other Disney resorts for you. Right now, it looks like the Swan has availability. Of course, there is no Magical Express to MCO, resort airline check-in/bag drop there, but still in the same area and a deluxe resort.

Hope everything works out.

Thanks so much! They did find a room for the two nights and were even able to do 40% off rack for me. Then my daughter found a flight for 11:50 am tomorrow. We decided it's more responsible to get home, especially since she has a lot to do at work next week. Pixie dust that the flight doesn't get canceled and leave us stranded at the airport.

Thanks you for your post. This hits home directly for me, as I'm fretting over our trip Halloween week. While it's not hurricanes or other natural disasters, I am kind of in the same boat.

My husband is going through chemo treatments, and originally, he would have been done, and everything working it's way back to normal during the timeframe of my trip, but he had a reaction to one of the drugs right after his 2nd round of treatment, and the regime has to change. Now, his treatments will happen over a longer period of time, and the trip my good Disney buddy and I have planned is in the middle of one of the cycles. He has vehemently insisted that we not cancel the trip, as his sister and my daughter will be around - not staying at the house, but close by and frequently checking in with him. We won't know if he tolerates this new routine, but they tell me that if he DOES have a reaction, it wouldn't be that big of an issue, and we would just adjust treatments again.

I'm totally torn on this...but feel totally guilty. (Headlines read "Wife plays as Disney World while chemo patient husband stays home alone")!!! :scared: :sad2:

We have until Sept 29 to cancel, so we should know more after he has the next treatment.

But then, I wake up in the middle of the night, toss and turn, and think about all those poor people losing so much in Texas and Florida, and fret.

Those poor folks are dealing with life endangerment issues - and hundreds of others have had once-in-a-lifetime trips planned, or severely altered. This (and your post, MommaBerd), all puts things back into perspective for me and helps me remember that if I do have to cancel, it's not the end of the world - all I'll lose is the non-refundable airfare and other monetary savings we gained by getting an AP membership last trip. My Disney Buddy totally understands, and we know that she and I will have other trips.

So, thank you for posting, MommaBerd.

I have a question, sorry if it's been asked before:

We have a 6:30pm Beaches and Cream ADR and we know we can't make it to HS to JBJB, but would like to see at least the fireworks. What is the best spot to watch from BC? Or should we walk over to the Boardwalk?

The view is better from the BC/YC area than from the Boardwalk. I think if you just head toward the area in front of the Yacht Club you'll have a good view. :)

I sympathize with those canceling or shortening their vacations. I may have to shorten mine (we are visiting Pop's brother in Central Illinois. Pop is 85; his brother is almost 93. We are trying to stay as long as possible because we are not sure how many more chances we will get.) It will depend on whether our neighbors call us that there is severe damage. I'm so worried about the whole area. I look out my windows at work and see EPCOT! So a hearty Thank You to all for continued prayers for everyone affected by Irma. Hope you can all visit here very soon. To those staying put at the resorts- my prayers are for your safety. Take care.
Sarah

I can sympathize with your feelings as my mom really hated to leave my dad when he was going through chemo. Sometimes the caretaker needs a break, though. I hope he not only has no reaction, but that this new protocol is powerful and effective! Hugs and prayers for you and your family.

We just got back today.

I spent a lot of time at the checkin. ( see why below) and was surprised on how many people were complaining about rooms not be cleaned until later in the day( one man's wife needed to get ready for dinner and do hair an make-up and room was not ready when they came back from the parks, another group requested early check.in and room not ready at 4pm) this guests were raising a storm... We had no issues.. We loved our room. Standard 4604 and was really really quiet.. Love the mattress this time.. Did they get new ones?? which ones do they have? Pillow were great. or maybe it was the change from POP to BC standards??

we have a late flight and used the pool after check-out. LOVED and I mean LOOOOOVEd the new pool shower..1. bout time they got them.. 2. and man are they nice!!!!!!! super nice.....told lady at check out.

The only little thing, but imporant that annoyed me is that they expediete check-in too much and skip out on things.. At both POP and BC during check.in they did not ask nor check if my CC on file was correct .. At pop we did not have inroom charging set up as we didnt do it.. and at BC they had my expired CC on file... I feel this should be a step where the check in agent asks do you want room charging and which CC?? I simply forgot or assumed this was taken care of.

So happy our trip was not affected and feel for those who are. Interesting our trip began 3 weeks ago in Frankfurt to D.C and worked our way down via the Smokies.. interesting Irma's path is the same one we took ( we took 95).. so it is amazing how much your luck is all in the timing. Irma could have ruined our entire trip. We got out of MCO last night on our original booked flight home.

We are blessed to be safe and sound after 16 hrs of driving and 20 hours of flying. Trip went well besides the fact my DDs bag is missing- lost or stolen from our move from Pop to BC... I spent 2 days with so any people, departments trying to track down.. Before returning car, I stopped by Pop and lost it at the counter.. I am not the type to cry, but maybe it was the stress.. They gave me a 100 dollar credit ( bag and contents worth about 150) but at the point, I was done. I wasn't expecting anything. Just wanted to make a claim to mentally close this issue in my head. DD lost her new toy, 50 bucks and kindle reader and more important her favorite Little MIss matched bag... but that is history...
