Hurricane Irma?

We flew in on Tuesday and got an email on Wednesday afternoon that our Sunday evening flight was cancelled. We called on Wednesday to try and get an earlier flight out, bit everyone beat us to the punch. So we are here at beach club.

When we checked in we ended up switching our room from a regular 2 Queens to a suite in the villas, so we at least have space now!

So far 3 flyers have been placed under our door with info ( pretty much the same info on all 3)

Last night at Cali grill our server said ( take it with a grain of salt) that 3 days of food would be delivered to all the value resorts since they have to shelter in place.

I will update with anything of note

That is great you have more room. Also glad you got in your CG ressie!

I would hope that would apply to mods too they will be in same situation right? I really think that are much better prepared for this then Matthew. One reason that there has been a lot more warning.

I'm actually surprised that more Florida residents aren't flocking to WDW to ride out the storm. I would think being at Disney would be safer than a lot of homes.

My cousins are making their way up from Clearwater to SSR today. Seems like a good place to hunker down vs their 4th floor apartment.

My family won't go because they won't allow pets.

I am sorry about that I totally understand how you feel, but I also understand their feelings I have cats and couldn't leave them also. I will keep them in my thoughts. My family in Cape Coral, Northport and Orlando areas are riding it out.:sad1:

We are flying in Tuesday from the UK. I called my TA to see what we could do in regards to changing or cancelling, I was told to just head to the airport on Tuesday morning and I would be told then the state of my flight :sad2: if I cancelled I would lose all the money for the holiday as the company are only willing to change or cancel up to the 11th.
That's awful - seems like UK travellers aren't getting the customer service they deserve. Have you got a package or separate flights/hotel/tickets etc ?

We're still trying to see if we can find a room at Disney somewhere, but everywhere is full. I'm hoping that if we lose power after the storm, maybe something will open up then as people are able to fly out. My husbands friend is the general manager at one of the resorts and he gave him his room so it could be used for guests - he'll be on an air mattress in his office!

If things are functioning normally he's pretty wrong. Folks need to work and make money. Did he not consider that?

I can understand the concern, but I agree that it is too early to cancel a trip that starts a week after the storm.

We are set to arrive the 23rd and I'm worried about interfering with the cleanup efforts. Maybe Irma won't be as catastrophic as it seems, and everything will be up an running by then. But if this truly devastates florida, then we may reschedule. We are driving down and I don't want to run into a mess of overburdended infrastructure.

Right now, for those with arrivals after the storm has passed, I think wait and see is the best approach.

I'm so relieved my dear friend evacuated out of Tampa.
Yeah that's definitely good! I have one that couldn't b/c she has too many animals. Nervous for her! Uh, but...that more westardly track has me nervous for us now!!! Anymore west & we'll be in the cone to experience tropical storm winds at least. They keep saying it "should" turn but hasn't.

Yeah I saw them say on CNN this morning exactly what I was thinking. Until it turns what do we really know?

Yes, I have the Live Irma update channel on now. Orlando is on the west side of the storm but, the storm is tracking even further west. It seems each update has a slight tick west. The more west it goes, the more Orlando is further from even the cone of bad on the west. So the current track is improving conditions ever so slightly in Orlando but worsening them in Tampa and surrounding areas.

Orlando is on the EAST side of the storm if Irma continues on the expected track. Typically in the US, not always though, the east side gets higher rain amounts and tornadoes.

I didn't consider that arriving on the 14th that it's possible I wouldn't have a room because other people are still sheltering there and legally they can't make them leave. Can the hotel tell you the day before? Will they stop accepting people as others check out so they have the rooms they need? Just hope for the best?

Lots of folks keep saying that some locals head to Disney during a storm to stay safe. I understand that some are able to book rooms ahead of time in the resorts, but they seem to be full now. Does that mean people try to ride out the storm in lobbies and stuff? Just curious. Perhaps I've misunderstood and everyone means that locals book rooms ahead of time. Still haven't heard from my family members that evacuated West Palm Beach. Hoping they are busy checking in an prepping and not stuck somewhere without gas!

As a local I would say that most do not head to Disney to stay safe, they are planning to stay at home. If I were to go to a hotel, I would go to one that's just as safe that's 1/2 of the price

They show availability for the 15th, but If it's bad those people are not going to leave and I'm pretty sure under Florida law they don't have to
?? So they wouldn't have to leave if their reservation was over?

Well I woke up to some good news but also not so good news. Waiting for the 11am update. If she keeps moving west then there is a bigger possibility of her staying over water with a more direct path to the big bend area near me

Getting the cat cages and the suitcase ready to go if things don't get better
