I'm so sorry. I know you were really looking forward to this trip (the Pop Century thread). I think you did the right thing, and I hope you can rebook soon. Glad you are safe.Hard morning. Finally cancelled today's trip late last night to find the storm has be downgraded this morning. (SO thankful for that!). Im a glutton for punishment as I keep second guessing what I did even though I did what was the right thing for me to do in the moment. So, so sad this morning. We were supposed to be getting ready to leave for the airport right now. Lol - even looked at rebooking our trip this morning but nothing available.
All will be better in a few days but it's just hard right now.
Praying for all in FL.
I will be offline most of the rest of the day (I'll be at Badgers game) so good luck to you. No where is a good path at this point.Well I woke up to some good news but also not so good news. Waiting for the 11am update. If she keeps moving west then there is a bigger possibility of her staying over water with a more direct path to the big bend area near me
Getting the cat cages and the suitcase ready to go if things don't get better

Lots of folks keep saying that some locals head to Disney during a storm to stay safe. I understand that some are able to book rooms ahead of time in the resorts, but they seem to be full now. Does that mean people try to ride out the storm in lobbies and stuff? Just curious. Perhaps I've misunderstood and everyone means that locals book rooms ahead of time. Still haven't heard from my family members that evacuated West Palm Beach. Hoping they are busy checking in an prepping and not stuck somewhere without gas!

While WDW is considered a safe harbor by many, why take the chance if you don't have too. Why spend so much money to go to Disney during a hurricane? If Irma does hit WDW hard, there will be damage that could take days or weeks to get things back to normal. I just don't get it.

A friend has guilt tripped me enough into maybe cancelling my trip that starts the 17th. He said to go down there would be to interfere with the recovery efforts and keep cast members from their families. Can't say he isn't wrong.

I wish there were more rooms still available for locals.Do you mean for the locals? I know for us at least, I'm confident buildings at Disney are going to still be standing, and I would imagine any power loss would be brief. I can't say the same for my house! We could have pretty extensive damage, and it's pretty much guaranteed that we'll lose power. Disney would be safer and more comfortable and for us, that's worth the cost. We just can't find a room!

I don't think the people of Tampa had much notice at all that they would be taking such a direct hit. I feel for anyone needing to make a last minute adjustment to their plans based on an unexpected turn in the storm's path.I've never thought of Disney as having the responsibility of providing a storm shelter for locals. Locals have had plenty of time to make reservations and frankly should know better. I have no ill will toward "outsiders" i.e. tourists who have chosen to be at Disney right now. Welcome, stay safe. It will be a trip to remember.
