Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

Hot weather + dog poop=nasty odor!
Step in dog poop=shoes ruined!
Black or dark dresses or suits + dog hair=disgusting!

I could go on but people will have their own opinions on this anyway.

My first "baby" was an Afghan hound. She literally went everywhere with me. She loved the car. BUT, she never went to work with me for obvious reasons AND she never went on vacation with us. She went to her favorite kennel with a shirt worn by me (had my scent on it). I just don't see the "fit" of a Disney vacation + dog=great vacation!
I respect the fact that you never took your dog on vacation but it doesn't mean others don't want to either.

It's up to the individual to decide that and Disney is giving them that opportunity now.

On another note...just pondering my DD's dance company trip in January at POR and the group thing in general with the "surprise" trial. I've read that some people here have been notified. Curious if Disney will notify us, or leave it to the TA organizing the group trip? Like PPs have said, a lot of people don't read Disney related boards and such, and since we're a large group I'd have to imagine that it will impact someone with allergies or the like. The TA hasn't notified us yet (although I know she knows), nor has the dance studio. They may be planning to do so, and just haven't yet. I've never been on a group trip like this, so curious how the extra layer affects things, especially since I don't think moving us would be an option...

Well you know what Terry Pratchett said about using too many exclamation marks:

  • 'Multiple exclamation marks,' he went on, shaking his head, 'are a sure sign of a diseased mind.' -- Eric
  • Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind. -- Reaper Man
  • 'And all those exclamation marks, you notice? Five? A sure sign of someone who wears his underpants on his head.' -- Maskerade

:) :) :)

(thinking about it, there's probably a rule about using multiple smilies too)

Andre
Love your sense of humor, Andre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It helps me to get past my sadness that POR, the most Magical location in Disney World, is going to have dogs.

It does not apply to dogs now. They do not hunt for their food nor will they hunt down a child. That's all I'm saying on this topic since dogs are not wild animals.
More then 350,000 people are treated for dog bites a year in the United States.

*edit* sorry that's treated in emergency rooms, 4.5 million people a year report dog bites.

I was wondering about DME. That makes it even worse!!! How are they going to "deep clean" the buses, so that those of us with allergies won't have attacks.
It says that dogs will have to be in carriers to ride ME. Unless its a small carrier it will have to ride under the bus as there are no other areas for them. I hope. I can’t imagine too many people wanting to pay freight airfare to have their large dogs brought with them. Unless something has changed that I am unaware of.

I can't imagine many, if any one flying a pet dog to wdw and needing to use DME

Looking at the map of AOA today you shouldn't have to come in to contact with any dogs at all staying there.

We are going to speak to virgin tomorrow and see if we can get a room upgrade at least to a nemo room in a pet free block. My little mermaid fanatic wife will be disappointed but this seems the safest option for her health. And we will hope for the best.

If Disney stick to their word on this everything will be okay. We will report any rule breaking we see and post photos on social media.

How do you know that? How do you know these people don't travel with dogs ALL the time? So much speculation by people in this thread!!! It's crazy.

Didn't feel like multi quoting everyone who replied with basically the same answer.
The simple answer is we don’t, but can you guarantee people won’t be bringing dogs who should not travel (just setting aside the whole allergy/phobia concerns)?

Example. My grandparents travelled all the time with their dog - had a trailer & wintered in Florida even. Slept in hotels sometimes on the way down. That dog was not trained. They made no attempt to train it. I was bitten 2x by that dog & my brother 1x, even though we avoided it like it was parasitic. I hated that dog & they were irresponsible owners. Dog off leash, tried to take it into stores, blind to the fact it terrorized everyone. Yapped constantly, growled. I can still hear them yelling for that damn dog over & over (Chiiiiiico!!!! - ugh) & never disciplining it.

I want 0% chance of running into that type of dog owner on my expensive vacation. Entitled & obnoxious - already enough human parents like this we have to tolerate.

I understand that many dog owners, maybe most, are responsible, but I do not want to step in dog feces that ruin my shoes, or sleep on a bed that an unknown animal slept in. & if a dog bites my child it will not be pretty.

I love the YC but won't stay if there are dogs staying as I have a phobia. I wonder if they'll be allowed on the CL floor?

There are plenty of other hotels for me so I'm still happy.

Question, totally out of curiosity - we keep speculating about club level. I know most of the deluxes have some rooms that have club level access that are not on the club floor. Could it be that some sort of accommodation like that will be made for people who want access to the club level amenities, but want to bring a pet as well? This is assuming that the half of Disney employees who are saying pet rooms are only in designated areas, and not run of the house, are correct (since run of the house would include club level as well). I wouldn't think that pets would be allowed in the club lounge anyway if they are not supposed to be in restaurants or public areas.

Terrible decision by Disney imo. Just horrible. I will never stay in any resort that allows animals in its guest rooms, Disney or otherwise. Both of my sons have severe dog allergies. I hope this test period fails miserably and is discontinued. I would be livid if I had to listen to a barking dog in another guests room. What happens after the first guest is bitten by someone’s dog? What is Disney thinking with this policy?

Yep & who’s going to be paying our medical bills if there is an incident (allergy/asthma/bite)?

If it is a bite the dog owner...as for allergies or asthma what steps do you take to avoid dogs when not at Disney? What will you do when you see a dog at the hotel or parks ? DH and I were very surprised to see numerous service dogs in the parks this past week, we counted no less than 12 and the most we have ever seen at the parks in past years.

Has there been a lot of dog biting incidents at Fort Wilderness?

And the first post about this topic was comparing the alligator incident with letting dogs stay at hotels. Totally different as I stated before.

Am I going to have to sue this person to get them to pay up? WDW has many international visitors who cannot simply drop everything to attend to a court case. Or even Americans who live on the other side of the country.

Those *should* be working dogs. I should not be interacting with them, nor them with me.

My kid is allergic to cats, but none of my kids like dogs & cross to the other side of the street to get away.

I have no idea, but does it really matter if it’s your child that’s the only one that’s bit????

There are no breed restrictions right? Are aggressive breeds restricted in Florida? Shall I post a photo of what pittbulls did to some of the kids in my province before we banned them?

This thread has jumped to so many conclusions. Now we are speculating about dogs attacking people because they used to be wild animals and wondering who to sue for whatever.

Let's wait and see how it plays out before everyone jumps overboard.

I'm not comparing, I'm simplely stating facts: Disney had water ways a child could have drowned in, which we're home to gators, with no fencing, these were only fenced after that tragic incident.

My point is Disney won't change this policy unless some one is hurt.

Hopfully no one is hurt. And this works out well and is safe. But want if a child steps on a dogs tail? And it turns and bites them? Now again that's unlikely and I would hope that doesn't happen.

Speculation only...
Sure, WDW could decide that CL guests with dogs will be access only.
Disney will have to explain to them that even though they booked and paid for a regular CL room, they are only going to be allowed access and will be assigned a room in the pet section.
While some guests will be fine with this, others may not.

Will be interesting to see what Disney decides to do about this now and if there are changes in coming months.
